The Aussie pop rock band topped the charts in 11 countries with their debut album, including in the big-money American market. But despite headlining to 800,000 fans on their arena world tour the four lads from Sydney are still waiting for their fi rst big pay packet.

Michael Clifford said: “Are we rich? No, absolutely not. People don’t realise artists don’t make much money any more. Well we don’t anyway. We cheques don’t come for six months after so we are still waiting.

“We haven’t managed to treat ourselves to anything yet. I rented a car but crashed into someone so had to fork out for that. Cost me a fortune.” 5SOS have been billed as pretenders to the One Direction crown.

But while 1D have splashed out on multimillion mansions and sportscars after making a whopping £25million each, 5SOS are just grateful they don’t have to share beds any more.

Michael added: “Me and Calum don’t have to share the same bed or same bedroom, so we are just happy about that. “People think life in 5SOS is rock n’ roll but we never trash hotels because you have to pay for that sh*t. We can’t afford to throw TVs through the window.

“To be fair it’s never been about money for us. We get to make and perform our music every day, which you can’t put a price on.” While 5SOS haven’t seen any major profit from their work yet, I wonder if the 1D boys have.

The X Factor boyband apparently get as much as 50% of the Aussie band’s profits due to owning a huge stake. The investment was part of a deal to help propel the group to stardom by supporting 1D on their stadium tours. New 5SOS single Hey Everybody is out now. Their album Sounds Good Feels Good is out October 23.----------------------------------------------------------------

DUET: Markus Feehily wants to perform a male duet love song with Will Young

MARKUS Feehily wants to record pop’s first all-male love song with Will Young.

The former Westlife star believes the charts are finally ready for two high-profi le gay singers to duet on a soppy single and wants the Pop Idol winner to make sweet music with him. Mark, who releases his new album Fire on Friday, told me: “I would love to do a duet with Will. I think that would be quite a coup.

“I would be up for doing a love song. I can’t think of two other guys singing together in that way and I think it would be interesting. “I know most people would prefer a guy and a girl but that’s quite a dated outlook. There’s no reason why two guys singing a love song couldn’t work.

I think society is at that stage now. I also like the idea of doing something that’s not been done before and there’s not many things in music that haven’t already been done.” But Markus had better be quick as I exclusively revealed in June how Adam Lambert wanted to do something similar with Sam Smith.

There are also rumours that a collaboration between George Michael and Sam is on the horizon. Mark added: “I don’t really know Will well but I’ve always admired him because he’s never sold out. And I love the sound of his voice. It’s very different from mine so it would be nice to hear them together.”

I’ve had a preview listen to Fire and it deserves to be a big commercial hit.

FRESH AIR: Firework singer posted a pic on Twitter wearing an oxygen mask

KATY Perry has a unique way of keeping her voice in tip-top condition.

REUNION: The band have released their fifth album

SCOUTING For Girls have revealed they split as a band before deciding to make a pop comeback. The This Ain’t A Love Song stars are back with fifth album Still Thinking About You.

But lead singer Roy Stride said they agreed to pack it in before having a change of heart.

He explained: “We had three albums and a greatest hits which all went top ten and it got to the point we were going to call it a day. “We’d done everything we felt we could.

We’d had a No.1 record, played Wembley, toured the world. I just didn’t know what else we could do.”

Thankfully, the three best mates changed their mind and Roy is now hoping the comeback will be a money-spinner after betting £100 at odds of 500/1 they will have the Christmas No.1. Hoping for a £50,000 payday, he added: “I put £100 on at 500/1.

The odds are now 50/1 so I got a good deal. I’m going to do my best now to challenge The X Factor for the top spot.” New single Life’s Too Short is out now. The album Still Thinking About You is released on Friday.

DIXON THE VIXEN: Aleesha has released her latest album, Do It For Love

ALESHA Dixon had two reasons to celebrate last week – her 37th birthday and releasing new album Do It For Love.

I’m told her boyfriend and baby daddy Azuka Ononye surprised the BGT judge with 12 custom-made birthday cupcakes on Wednesday – one for each song title on her new record.

Alesha, who released the album during her birthday week, told me: “I couldn’t be prouder of this album.

It feels amazing to be back doing what I love the most.”

Do It For Love was released Friday, along with the new Lemar album The Letter, and Hurts’ new record Surrender.

OLLY Murs has defended Zayn Malik’s recent Twitter spats with Naughty Boy, Calvin Harris and his ex-bandmate Louis Tomlinson.

While Zayn’s management are trying to stop the former 1D singer’s public bitching, Olly is reaching for the popcorn. He said: “I just think it’s funny. I sit back and read and find it entertaining.

FORMER Neighbours star Delta Goodrem has been breaking records in Australia ever since topping the charts with her debut album aged 15. She’s since battled cancer, become a star coach on The Voice Australia and, of course, dated and dumped Brian McFadden.

Last night the 30-year-old performed her latest single Wings, out now, at G-A-Y at Heaven. Here’s what she had to say:

You’ve had an incredible nine number one singles in Oz. Is that the most by a female?

“Kylie has ten and Madonna has 11 so I still have work to do. They are on another level but I’m up for the fight, plus they have a few years on me.

It’s almost done but I’m in Cats in Oz for three months so it won’t be until after that.

What’s the truth about you and Jessie J fighting on The Voice?

Jessie and myself are big personalities. We are very different people and at times we clashed but there’s no bad blood between us. We get on just fine. I’m not sure if I’ll be back on the Voice next year due to promoting the album but if we are both back it would be fine.

You recently went back to Neighbours for the 30th anniversary. How was that?

Neighbours is like our Mickey Mouse club. It produces stars like Disney does in the US. I loved going back for the anniversary – it was like going home.
