Acting Question

How can I memorize this...

Okay I really like acting...and all that chiz about it...BUT...I just have a terrible memory and I kinda have ADD so I can't stay in a room and keep saying the lines over and over again...I mean I will if I have to but I will become very distracted and forget what I'm doing after 5 minutes and then when I have to say the lines I forget and go back to the paper of lines, that's why I haven't gotten any parts. Also I think I'm becoming distracted right now drifting off in a different conversation so BEFORE my ADD gets the best of me, help! How do I memorize lines? That's my flaw with acting but I really like it! Or should I just not do acting because of my terrible memory?

I think that you should just try practicing for short time limits then come back and study the lines again later and hopefully you will remember over time.

WRITE IT OUT! lol thats all I hear from my acting and music teachers at NOCCA (a school for arts)...It works too! I have a terrible memory and I'm always told that writing out the words can help you memorize AND better understand texts... I hope this helps!!

First of all, ADD a discipline problem...so all you have to do is focus on how much you enjoy acting and use that as the fuel for going over your lines..... trust me, you don't want to be stuck on the day before the play and realize you don't have your lines memorized as much as they should be. What I do, for every play I have done, is the night I get the script, I read it before bed, I read it whenever I get the chance, I read the stage directions, imagine the blocking in my head, and work on it from there :)
