because when he was addicted to drugs and when he was going through the hardest time where he was taking to much he was saying how its not too late to change his life and for everybody its never too late to change it
He wrote it for Naomi, his wife. He was saying that he would change, he would escape his addiction to oxycontin. And because he walked into the mental hospital and overcame that addiction, it wasn't too late for him. It's not too late until you give up.
ACTUALLY ! Adams friend tried to commit suicide and he wrote it because of that nothing to do with him being addicted to drugs at the time he and HIS WIFE NAOMI WROTE IT TOGETHER because of Adams friend that's why he tattooed the lyrics to his arm
