I think it's an excellent idea, if it is your idea.
If you really want to get out more and meet new people and be less awkward around strangers, go for it, but remember to keep an open mind. Go into this with a positive feeling, and I'm sure you'll have a good time.

If some of your friends are pushing you into this because they think you're too awkward and "weird" don't go. If you're okay with being more introspective (like I am), than don't let people try to change you.
