What is your understanding of Otonashi's role in the Afterlife?

From what he was saying to Kanade, when she disappeared, he felt that he would be fulfilling his wish by staying in the Afterlife and helping others... he asked Kanade to stay with him, but her wish was for him to say that he loved her... he did, so she disappeared. In Another Epilogue, it implied that he was Student Council President, at least as some sort of alternate ending (though, I wonder how it is an alternate ending, since he didn't disappear, so it could have happened, for all we know). So, do you think Otonashi will stay in the Afterlife helping people to move on, or he will eventually be satisfied and disappear?
