I didn't agree with what he was trying to do, but at the same time I could feel his pain, his sense of abandonment, disillusionment. I think he felt forsaken by God in favor of humans. Expected to obey without question orders he didn't understand. I think he was pushed past the breaking point by centuries of cryptic commands; forced to watch humans revel in debasement and expected to subvert his life in favor of theirs.

I don't care if you're an angel, you can still get played... You just have to know what is right and wrong and where you stand in grey areas...

I'm a little upset that they didn't make Uriel and archangel - like he's supposed to be.

I didn't like him, and certaintly didn't agree with the way he was going about things, but I agree with fanfly, he felt abandoned, and forsaken by God in favor of humans, these awful creatures with no-redeeming qualities that he could see. Forsaken in favor of these "mud-monkeys" with flaws, who didn't obey without question, like he did, who rebelled and rejected his Father. He was confused, I think, and it was almost a cry for attention, to me. So I felt bad for him and sympathized with him a bit.

Like Gabe said; "daddy was mean to you so you're smashing all his toys?" but then to Lucifer of course... Anyways, he was a dick too so good for him. Oh yeah, and he tried to kill Cas so bye bye sympathizing.
