Castiel's gotten better, but I still like Anna more. It didn't take the end of the world and a lecture from Dean for her to realize that humanity was worth something and that her superiors weren't always right.

Well after seeing the latest episode. I really hate Anna. Not that I liked her much to begin with. Castiel owns, seriously. He's without a doubt the best angel... Well him AND Gabriel :3

I LOVE Castiel, LOVE LOVE LOVE. About Anna... I don't know, I have love/hate feelings. I am really confused about her.
Love:
1: Her altitude at In The Head Of A Pin.
2: Her hair.
3: Her rebelious instricts.
4: Her as an angel.
HATE:
1: Her playing innocent all the time and have that stupid retarded look in I Know What You Did Last Summer.
2: Her having sex with Dean.
3: Her wanting to kill Sam.
4: Her as a human.
Don't know what I feel... lol

I don't think that Castiel needed an "end of the world" speech or lecture from Dean to realize that humanity was worth saving. At the park in 4x07 you can tell he agrees with Dean when he says that those kids and that town are there because of him and Sam and that he would do it all again, just like Cas told him, "You misunderstand me, Dean. I'm not like you think. I was praying you would choose to save the town. These people, they are all my Father's creations, they are works of art...Can I tell you something if you promise not to tell another soul? I'm not a hammer as you say. I have questions, I have doubts. I don't know what is right and what is wrong anymore, whether you passed or failed here," I think it was this moment when I realized that Cas really does care about humanity. Cas just loved God and had such an unwavering faith in him, it took him a while to actually choose to rebel. It's what Lucifer was cast into the pit for, after all.

You could see he sympathized with Dean almost immediately. I just think he had a lot more faith in their cause and God than Anna did, so it was a lot harder for him to just abandon it, so when Cas full on rebelled it had much more of an impact, for me at least, because he was truly giving something up. Like in 5x04, when Future!Dean said, "Welcome to the club," talking about humanity and Future!Cas responded, "Thanks, but I used to belong to a much better club." I know (hope) that won't become Castiel now, but it just shows how much he believed in the basic goodness of his side of the fight, even after everything. He believed God cared, which is why I think he found it so much harder to "rebel" and yet, he still did it, because of humanity, because of Dean.

Anyway...I'm sure you didn't need that big explanation, but yes, Castiel is my favorite. I love his and Dean's friendship :)

I like Cas a good deal more since I wrote that original comment but I still stand by what I said. Castiel in S4 was extremely annoying for me. You touch on exactly why, TeeFly. Because you could see he sympathized with Dean and had doubts...but he never did anything about them! Or very rarely. And since it's not in my nature to take things on faith I found his stubborn faith in God and The Plan extremely frustrating. He was capable of thinking for himself but he chose not to. That's why I liked Anna better. Because she made her choices for herself, for better or worse. Maybe they weren't the best choices but she took that risk, let go of the idea that she wasn't accountable because everything she did was a part of the Master Plan.

Now, having seen more of Cas and how they humanized his character in S5, I do like him a lot better than I used to. Probably better than Anna now but because I still like her and feel bad about how her story ended, I'm not going to change my vote. I'm sure Cas will do fine without me. lol

TeeFly picked Castiel - Misha Collins:
Very true, and I can see why, in S4 Cas could be such a frustrating character. There were times when I got quite bothered by him as well. But it was never his faith which bothered me. It was his indecisiveness. I felt like he was missing the fact that he could still keep his faith in God intact, without being a fan of the Master Plan.It became pretty obvious that the angels were calling the shots at that point, and I found his willingness to side with them a bit annoying, especially when he knew it wasn't right. I found his inability to choose a side is what bothered me. He thought it had to be all or nothing, later I think he learned that wasn't so, but at the time, I wanted to give him a neon sign. lol But, I think the reason I can sympathize with Cas in S4 more is because I saw his faith as a strength (in most cases), rather than a weakness. I can understand having faith in something that seems ridiculous or silly, and I can understand the determination that he felt about certain things and the voracity with which he defended them. He was loyal. I found it...honorable. Dean and Sam are just as hardheaded about certain things, probably why he fits in so well. I found it endearing because when Cas puts his faith in something/someone he is ALL in. At the end of S4 when he decided to put his faith in Dean, he did so fully and completely.

I think most people on the show act on faith, really. Maybe not in a higher power, but they all have faith in something. Dean and Sam resisted Michael/Lucifer for so long on the pure unwavering faith that they had in each other and in their basic cause. They believed completely, based on little more than blind faith, what they were doing was the right thing to do. They had no proof of the validity or success of their plan. If they had failed the entire world was going to have to endure Hell on Earth...literally, as Cas mentioned. And yet, they still went through with it. Every move they made was based purely on the faith that it was the right thing to do.

As for Anna in S4, well I quite liked her. I felt like she pushed her own personal beliefs on other people a little much, but she was basically a character I found really interesting and compelling. I loved her with Dean ♥ And she kind of seemed like an example of what Cas could be if he decided to fall for humanity. In S5 she got on my bad side, but I still felt bad for how her storyline turned out. But I guess that's Supernatural huh?

Glad you feel better about Cas now, they did a lot of humanizing him in S5 and making him more likeable, he really came into his own and grew as a character! lol I'm sure Cas will survive without your vote! ;)
