And so she sat by his bedside, waiting for him to open his eyes and smile at her. She had waited for some time now, brain surgery patients apparently didn’t wake up for a while. She believed he would recover fine; surgeons had reassured her the surgery had gone perfectly. Yet she was still nervous and waited by his bedside. And while Angela, Jack, Camille, and Sweets had gone home, Bones still waited by Booth’s bedside.
She didn’t cry; she found it highly illogical if the surgery had gone fine. She was just very concerned and worried. She pulled up a chair next to his bedside and fell asleep in it. Finally, at three A.M., Booth woke up. Although he didn’t say anything, he saw his partner beside him, and he smiled. He fell back asleep with sweet dreams.
And in the morning, they both somehow woke up at the same time. No words were needed. They both were happy to be in each other’s presence, so they both shared a small but meaningful kiss on the lips. And Bones said she had work to do, and Booth was still tired, so they parted ways, both thinking about how much they loved each other.
So as Bones pulled her car into the Jeffersonian parking lot, she had an urge and she drove back to the hospital. She barged into Booth’s room and she told him how much she loved him. How nice he was to her, and how she never wanted to lose him.
And Booth replied by telling her how much he loved her, and how his heart did summersaults when she was near him. And how he wanted to spend the rest of his life with her. And they both looked at each other, thinking of their past conundrums, and Bones walked over to him and kissed him, more passionately and lovingly than before.
