	opaquemystique picked Gene Wilder: As much as I love Johnny Depp, I liked Gene Wilder's version more. JD's version was... well, a bit more wackier in my opinion. Gene Wilder's wonka was wacky but a more subtle wackiness, if you catch my drift. To me he just seemed like a mysterious inventor full of imagination (no pun intended). Also, I haven't the slightest idea how Wonka is in the book, so I'm just going by what I liked. However, what I liked about Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is that Wonka has more of a backstory. You see how he became what he is, in the other one all that's known about his character is that he's a mysterious guy with a chocolate factory and not much else.
