I always save the rough drafts. They'll be worth lots of money someday. besides, when I'm writing an amature's poem, it's good to have the bad ones ready.

I'm writing a novel, but I keep the rough draft and the typewritten one both, in case I lose one. Once they're published, then I plan to get rid of them.

When you have finally finished your work - when it's published or whatever - do you really need to keep the "Draft 2: It was a dark and stormy night... (cross out night)... It was a dark and stormy evening... (Cross out dark and replace with gloomy)... It was a gloomy and stormy evening... (does this work?)" ?

I have precisely this conundrum. Conflict between wanting to keep the rough draft (so much work went into this, it's an old friend etc) and realising that keeping all the draft 2s creates a tremendous pile of paper/files.

The real question is: Is there something in the draft 2s that you DIDN'T USE IN YOUR FINAL COPY BUT WHICH YOU THINK/BELIEVE/SUSPECT WILL COME IN USEFUL IN ANOTHER WORK LATER ON? If so, definitely keep your draft 2s. But don't store it 'with the other rough drafts'. Put it in a place where you keep your Future Writing Ideas. The old staple was the Writer's Inspiration Notebook; the modern version would be a computer directory kept for such a purpose.
