Though I don't rule out the bat thing either.
Basically: new viruses get "made up" by nature all the time, via processes like antigenic shift and genetic reassortment. It often happens in animal reservoirs before eventually being passed on to humans. Covid-19 and HIV (which was "made up" in non-human primates before being passed to humans in the early 20th century) are just two examples among many. The most likely natural reservoir for Covid-19 is bats, given its close genetic similarity to bat coronaviruses, though pangolins could have also been an intermediate host. It's called 'zoonotic transmission' and it's an incredibly common way for infectious diseases to emerge.
Plagues aren't exactly new in the history of humanity lol. This defs doesn't need a conspiracy behind it, and in fact, all the evidence is saying otherwise.
Infectious respiratory diseases come around every so often - it's basically inevitable given how many there are out there, across all mammals. We just have to be prepared for when they do. Unfortunately, it's been shown that we're woefully underprepared. Hopefully governments will stop slashing public health research and preventative measures in future and have better plans in place for the literal inevitability that an infectious respiratory illness will emerge.
