What's wrong with having romance? I do really wish Fairy Tail could be more serious and more romantic like Rave Master.

I've never been into romance, but there are a lot of couples in Fairy Tail that I like, so I wouldn't mind too much.

Romance is an integral part to telling a great story. It's a powerful narrative device to develop characters and their bonds and provides some excellent sub-plots to the series. The romantic tension between characters in FT (the 'canon' ones) creates powerful moments and a sense of mystery between those involved. Honestly, I believe Mashima could do better with them rather than rely on action/epic moments to have tender/romantic moments. Overall, the romance in FT, knowing there's a 'tension' of that sort between the two respective characters, really does create some of FT's best moments. The Tartarus arc shows this many times but I won't say much else in case of spoilers.
