This is fifth in a series of articles profiling link, and was last edited on 21 May 2008.
I first became aware of Aleciane due to the various music videos she'd posted to various spots when she first joined in March 2007. Since then, though, Aleciane has been a very active Fanpop user all over the site. She's created dozens of spots, earned scores of medals, gained hundreds of fans and rated thousands of links on the site. She even has a link! I polled many, many users about Aleciane, and the vast majority who responded remarked on the huge volume of content she provides to Fanpop.
link writes: "i think she contributes to many spots and does not only just add to a few spots that she likes the most."
link adds: "The most notable thing about Aleciane is her vast areas of interest. I think I’ve seen her contributions in almost every spot I’m a member of and judging by her number of Dedicated medals, she contributes to many more than that. I was most impressed by the amount of content she submitted to the link. I think she pretty much dominates that spot. I’ve never heard anyone say a bad word about her and she is the definition of a great Fanpopper."
Harold: Describe how you discovered Fanpop, what you did when you found it, and what has kept you coming back.
Aleciane: I don’t really remember how I came across it. I think I was searching through Google for something & came across it. I kept coming back because there is a lot of great content on here.
Harold: What would surprise other Fanpop users to learn about you?
Aleciane: I am not some nerd sitting behind a computer! Lol!
Harold: You say you're not a nerd sitting behind some computer, which is really a great lead-in to tell us what you are instead. Would you care to tell us a bit about yourself?
Aleciane: Eek! I am a typical 20-year old girl! I love to go out and party, hangout with friends, and have fun! I am going to college, but right now I am on summer break! I LOVE music! I love nostalgic things from my childhood, 80s especially, and older.
Harold: What do you enjoy most about college?
Aleciane: You go when you want, although I also did that in high school (lol). It is more laid back, your major assignments you know about far in advance, and I am usually only there for about 3 hours and I get to go home for the day.
Harold: When you finish with school, do you know what you want to do for a living, or will you take it as it comes?
Aleciane: Well I am going to school right now to get an Interdisciplinary Degree with concentrations in Marketing, Public Relations and Sociology. Once I get into my junior year in college, I will start exploring my options job-wise by taking internships.
Harold: What would your dream job entail?
Aleciane: Being a fashion buyer! Shopping as a career, that is my dream! I would either want Rachel’s job in "link" or Samantha’s in "link".
Harold: Aside from you, what is noteworthy about your hometown?
Aleciane: Nothing much. I live in the middle of nowhere!
Harold: Describe what a perfect day would look like for you.
Aleciane: Very sunny, beach-like weather (with light wind), few clouds...
Harold: What did you do online before you found Fanpop?
Aleciane: Myspace! Lol…I mean I still do that too...
Harold: Why do you think people chose you as Fan of the Fortnight?
Aleciane: I guess because they like the content I add & maybe I was helpful to them in some way.
Harold: The comments on the Fan of the Fortnight pick that chose you indicate over and over again how much people appreciate the videos that you've linked on Fanpop. Of all the videos you've uploaded, which is your favorite?
Aleciane: Any! As long as everyone enjoys it, I am happy.
link adds: "She is one of Fanpop's reigning image queens. I see hers literally everywhere. Most recently, I saw some awesome link icons. I truly commend her for her effort - I can tell aleciane works really hard on her images"
Harold: Name your favorite fictional character and explain a little why you chose him/her.
Aleciane: Amanda from "link" (because she is hilarious) or Carrie from "link" (I think a lot of women can identify with her)
Harold: Are you really excited to see the "Sex and the City" film, or do you have concerns that it won't live up to the series?
Aleciane: OMG I AM SOO EXCITED! I believe it will be an amazing film, and it will answer many questions the fans had about what happened after the show ended.
Harold: Name your favorite historical figure and explain a little why you chose him/her.
Aleciane: link and Martin Luther King, Jr. Both were amazing individuals that stood up for what they believed and tried to better humanity. Both were also advocates of peace and civil rights, which I feel strongly about.
Harold: How do your strong feelings about advocating peace and civil rights play out in your life? Do you have recommendations for other users on how to get more involved in supporting peace and/or civil rights where they live or in the world in general?
Aleciane: I try to look at everyone with an open mind. If I find someone saying something inappropriate, I let him or her know how I feel. Others can get involved by doing the same. Peace and civil rights starts out as something in a community and progresses into something bigger. I believe having peace within yourself is a good start. It lets you be free of judging others unfairly. I wear a symbol of piece everyday. I have a tattoo of a dove on my left wrist.
Harold: If you could travel anywhere, where would you go and why?
Aleciane: I have always wanted to go to link. I love link and I really want to see the Taj Mahal.
Harold: Which states in India interest you the most? Are there any that you would want to visit other than Uttar Pradesh?
Aleciane: Punjab, Kerala, Bihar, Andhra Pradesh, Assam, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Meghalaya (all of these for different reasons: the beaches, architecture, culture)
Harold: What are some of your favorite Indian dishes? Do you have a preference for a particular region's food? I tend to favor northern Indian cuisine, myself, being particularly fond of keema naan, samosas, chicken saag, butter chicken and tandoori chicken from the north, as well as all sorts of curries.
Aleciane: I like different kinds of curry as well. I love Matar Paneer, Mattar Tofu, Palak Paneer, Paneer Tikka and Chicken Tikka Masala dishes! I am always trying to get my family or boyfriend to go eat Indian food, but no one ever does!
Harold: What music are you listening to these days?
Aleciane: I love link! link "In Rainbows" is amazing! I also love link, link, link, and link.
Harold: You mentioned those bands... For users unfamiliar with any of these, which albums would you recommend as "must-listens" for these artists?
Aleciane: Interpol – "Turn on the Bright Lights"
Blonde Redhead – "Misery is a Butterfly"
Tori Amos – "Little Earthquakes"
The Cure – "Greatest Hits"
Depeche Mode – "The Best of Depeche Mode, Vol. 1"
(Those two I put greatest hits CDs, because they have been around for so long and listening to a greatest hits CD would give you the best idea as to how amazing they are :D)
Harold: We've talked about some of your favorite music. Have you been to any link that you really enjoyed? If so, can you say a little bit about what it was that made the concert great?
Aleciane: I just recently saw Radiohead live, and it was amazing. The entire setup was awesome and the lights were really cool. Not only that, but they played a good set with a lot of the songs I like by them.
I also loved to see Interpol live. I have seen them about 3 times now and every time it just gets better. When they come to town they always play in a smaller venues so it sells out and the crowd is always enthusiastic.
Harold: This may sound a little weird, but given that you are such a big music fan, I have to ask. Are you a big fan of link in general, or do you prefer to let the artists' music generate your own visions in your head without being tainted by someone's else's images? I ask because some folks are dismayed when they see an official music video because the video doesn't match what they imagined on hearing the song...
Aleciane: I would say I am a fan of music videos from the past, the ones I grew up watching. These days I usually stray away from music videos, because I do feel after watching them it changes the images in my head that I had for that particular song. I will no longer associate the song with the image I created myself, but I will only visualize the music video. I do believe music videos can ruin your perception of a song. Music evokes an emotion inside of each person differently, and sometimes music videos “ruin” it.
Harold: What are you reading these days?
Aleciane: I read an amazing book called Funny in Farsi for my English class recently and I loved it. It is extremely funny.
Harold: Do you like to read the link? If so, do you prefer to read the books first, or see the films first?
Aleciane: I guess that all depends on which one I discovered first! I do not have much time for reading, so I do not get very many chances to read the books that have been adapted into films. I do have an amazing long list of books to read that were made into films that I have already seen: "Requiem for a Dream", "Rules of Attraction", "Trainspotting"…) The only book I have read and seen the film version is "Prozac Nation" by Elizabeth Wurtzel.
Harold: What film/show have you enjoyed recently?
Aleciane: I love "link" and "link"
neeki writes: "aleciane was one of the first fanpoppers to catch my attention when I joined fanpop. It seemed everywhere I went there was a great video or image she had added. I'm pretty sure the majority of movies I've watched in the link have been posted by her! She truly is dedicated. Fanpop definitely wouldn't be the same without her...a great fanpopper and a great person!"
Harold: You are huge on the Movies spot, with good reason. If you had to pick your top 5 films of all time, what would they be?
Aleciane: Requiem for a Dream, The Rules of Attraction, The Pianist, The Virgin Suicides, The Wedding Singer (I love a lot of movies; these were the first 5 that came to mind)
Harold: Can you describe what makes a good film for you? That is to say, looking at your favorite films, can you detect a pattern in themes, structure, or certain elements that, when present, either make or break a film?
Aleciane: I am not sure what exactly makes a film good to me. Good plots I guess lol.
Harold: Do you prefer to watch films on the TV, on the computer, or in the theater?
Aleciane: Well, on the computer I am distracted. On TV there are too many commercials and they usually cut a lot of stuff out, and once again I am always distracted. I must say the theatre then, because I am more inclined to pay attention.
Harold: Tell us about the favorite thing you've seen on Fanpop in the past week.
Aleciane: The link!
As so often, I had to ask this question again, closer to the present...
Harold: You mentioned the Robert Downey Jr. spot as the favorite thing you've seen in the last week...you mentioned that months ago. What's the favorite thing you've seen on Fanpop this past week?
Aleciane: Kathiria82 posted a link talking about the movie!
kathiria82 writes: "Aleciane has been one of the top contributors since I joined in May 2007. I recall when it was only her and I uploading thousands of images and going crazy creating spots on here. Lately I`ve noticed that she hasn`t been adding as much but she is still an exceptional user. She deserves so many props for all her work in the movies spot. Thanks in part to her uploads people on here will be viewing movies for a long time to come."
Harold: Are there any actors or directors that you like so much that you will go to see anything that they do? If so, who are they?
Aleciane: Directors: link, link, link, Cameron Crowe, Spike Jonze, The Farrelly Brothers, link and the link
Actors: link, link, link, link, link, link, link, link and link.
Harold: Describe your life philosophy.
Aleciane: Live the way you want, don’t take things too seriously, don’t let anyone else get you down, & don’t let things get you down. Also don’t be afraid to voice your opinions & you should not be afraid to question things. And never give into peer pressure!
Harold: Of all your contributions, of what are you most proud?
Aleciane: All of the fashion designer spots I started! (link, link, & link)
Harold: When were you happiest in your life? When were you the most scared?
Aleciane: Besides graduating from high school, right now!
Harold: If you could have lunch with 3 other users whom you do not know in real life already, which would you choose and why?
Aleciane: link: He is one of the masterminds behind the site & he has good taste in music.
link: She is an awesome chick
link: She is one of the few people I happened to get to know pretty well.
Harold: In closing, if you could teach all of the Fanpop users one thing that we would all learn, what would it be?
Aleciane: BE NICE! There is no need for hatred and animosity. Please use all fields when uploading something. Rate fairly! The reason for ratings is not to rate the person. It is so users can get a better feel for what is the best video, link, or image.
