Fanpop Question

On chat for fanpop (the thing that tells you how many friends are online) whats the difference between buddies and friends?

okay the thing in the right corner of the sceen says theres three friends online but when i click on meebo chat it says two friends are under fanpop and one is under buddies whats the difference?
