End of Chapter 5
The group of men walked out of the bar, the large one, who I assumed was their leader started pointing to the others. "FIND HIM!! He couldn't have gotten far!" He yelled.
The others broke off, running to look in the woods that bordered the bar. Only the leader and one other were left to search the bar area. The other man walked close to my hiding spot while the leaders back was turned. I reached around, grabbing his head in my hands and twisting before he knew what was going on.
I pulled his body into the shadow, knowing I would have to dispose of it eventually. The leader turned around, looking for the other man. He yelled his name a few times, before walking over to where I was hiding. I reached my arms around his shoulders, turning him quickly.
His eyes were bulging, he had no clue what was going to happen. "Is this your motorcycle?" I asked as I walked out of the shadow.
"Yeah, it is. Why?" He demanded, his heart pounding in surprise.
"Because I'm going to take it." I said.
"Oh, really?" He said, his hands balled into tight fists.
"Yes." I said as I jumped forward, knocking him to the ground. My lips found his neck, biting through his skin.
The blood flowed like water down my throat. I knew that it hadn't been long since I last fed, but his blood was sweet. When I was finished, I gathered his flunky's and his bodies...searching them before I placed them in the trunk of the car. I doused the entire car in gasoline and light the entire thing on fire, knowing I had to do this before anyone noticed me.
I grabbed the key that I had found in the pocket of the leader, and tried it in the ignition of the Harley. It roared to life below me, the power of it making my bones ache. I smiled as I kicked it into gear, accelerating until I was flying past the trees.
At that moment I made my decision about where I was going. I knew that I wanted to go to the east coast, but now I decided Philadelphia was where I wanted to go to start my new life, leaving my old life behind.
Chapter 6
The trip to Philadelphia took only two days, driving continuously. The Harley had more power then I originally thought it would, and it made it further on gas then the car had. I stopped twice for gas, but fought my cravings.
I had lots of time to think about myself while I was driving. I had remorse for killing those men back at the bar, even though they were planning on hurting me. I knew that they wouldn't have been able to hurt me, yet I killed them and fed off of them.
I realized that I was turning into what I hated most about Maria. I was becoming a monster, a killer. That was not who I was, not who I would become....ever. I decided then, sitting on the motorcycle that I would change myself. I would try to stop feeding, stop being the evil thing I felt growing inside myself.
I went two days without feeding, this wasn't terribly difficult for me. I had gone longer, and since I was only stopping for gas it made it easier to avoid interacting with humans.
When I was on the outskirts of town I saw a car broken down. There was a group of women standing around the car, confused looks on all of their faces. One of them waved her hands in my direction, yelling for me to stop.
I thought about it, I knew I was thirsty..but these women needed help. I couldn't just leave them stranded on the side of the road, my parents raised me better then that.
I pulled over slowly, taking a deep breath of fresh air before I got close to them..hoping this would help me resist.
"Thank you, could you please help us? The car just stopped." A woman with blond hair said as she stepped closer to me.
I set the bike on the stand, climbing off the Harley. "Yes Ma'am, I can look at it." I said quietly, trying to keep any air I could.
"Roger will be so upset." One of the girls said.
"Don't worry, this young man will help." Another said.
I went and raised the hood, looking at the engine. I didn't know a lot about cars, but I could tell that the engine was not the reason the car wouldn't run. I leaned into the hood, inhaling the smells from the engine, refilling my lungs.
I turned my head to see the women had all gathered next to the car. They were all watching me, a few with a interesting look in their eye.
"He's rather attractive." One of them said quietly.
"Oh my yes. He's a gentleman too!" Another said.
"Those eyes, and the blond hair." The first one said.
I realized that my eyes must have been rather dark, not the usual red that they were when I was well fed. I smiled at the one that commented on my hair, and she blushed.
I realized that this was not a good thing, the blood was rushing into her cheeks. Her lips became a darker shade of red, I could see the veins in her neck...just below the surface.
I made myself stop, I knew I had to go..I had to get away from this group of...girls. I couldn't trust myself, I needed to be going...I wouldn't be that monster.
"I'm sorry, I can't fix your car. I will send someone at the next stop." I said as I walked quickly to the motorcycle.
"Please stay." One of the women said.
"No, I must be going. I'm sorry, I will send help as soon as I can." I said as I ran out of air.
I lifted my foot and kick started the bike, the sound roaring off the trees that bordered the road. I looked at all of them one more time before pulling onto the road.
Once just inside the city limits, I found a small gas station. I informed them of the women on the road, and paid the man twice what he asked for him to go tow them back to town. I also left the Harley, telling the man he could keep it, or cell it if he wanted...I would rather walk.
As I walked out the door, the weather decided to match my mood...it started raining. The rain coming down in sheets so hard that it was hard to see more then outlines.
I hung my head, not caring about what anyone thought anymore. I knew that my mood was flooding out of me, people crossed the street to avoid me. I smiled slightly, thinking about how this was helping me.
First the rain was washing the smell of people away from me, and secondly my mood was so foul that it was scaring people away from me...making the temptation that much less.
I realized that I was drawing attention to myself though, people were looking at me as I walked down the street. There weren't many people out in the rain, and I knew I couldn't afford anyone asking any questions.
I saw a small dinner, the neon just a dim light in the rain. I decided that I should go in, to at least wait until the rain slowed before finding somewhere to wallow..no hide in. Is that what I have become? Just someone who hides from the world, left to my memories? I needed to change my life, I just needed to figure out how to do this..and I would. That much I was sure.
I opened the door, a bell ringing to let the staff know that another person had entered the building. The lights were bright, so I kept my head down..my eyes on the floor.
I heard someone slide off a stool, and instantly the smell hit me like a load of bricks. It was another of my kind, another vampire...what had I done?
Love you all!!!
