End of Chapter 62
"I'm in Vermont dad, I got away...dad there's so much to explain. Where are you?"
"About ten miles outside of town, there was a accident. A logging truck ran into a car that thought it could make it, we're trying to get people out of the car still...it's pretty messy."
"Oh, Charlie are you there alone?"
"Nooo...why?" He asked, unsure what Bella was asking him.
"Just wondering, Charlie I'm tired. Can I call you in a bit?" Bella asked as she fake yawned.
"Oh, yes. Please call me back Bells." He asked, the background sounds getting louder. "I miss you Bella, please come home soon."
"As soon as they let me out of here." She said, trying her best to sound grumpy.
"Love you Isabella." He said, accentuating my name.
"You too dad." She said as she ended the call. She took a deep breath before she turned and looked at all of us. "Something's up, Charlie NEVER calls me by my full name."
"Isn't it possible that he just misses you?" Carlisle asked.
"No...I think something's up." She said as she looked at everyone.
"Well then, we have to discuss our options." Carlisle said as he looked at me, wondering who we could send to watch after Charlie.
Chapter 63
"Can I get out of here first?" Bella asked as she looked at Carlisle.
"Oh, yes. Let me go get the paperwork. Alice, could you get her things together?" He said as he turned and walked out of the room.
Alice quickly got to gathering all of Bella's things together and neatly put them in a blue bag that was for patients. She turned and looked at Bella as she folded one of her shirts.
"I'm going to go ahead, Bella you need some heavier clothes." She said as she smiled, her thoughts only about what cut of jeans she should get or what color she would look best in.
"Don't go overboard." Bella said as she smiled at Alice.
"I'll try." She said as she turned and looked at me. "Edward, we need to talk." She thought.
I nodded, turning to look at Bella for a minute before I started to climb out of the bed. "Bella, I am going to see how long it will be before we can get you out. I'll be right back." I said as I stood up, kissing her head.
"You're not fooling me, what's going on." Bella said as she looked at Alice.
"Bella." Alice said as she took a step closer.
"No, Alice. I need to know, this is my father we are talking about. I need to know what's going on. Please don't keep things from me." She whispered.
I went back to her, wrapping my arms around her as she started to cry again. I didn't realize that she was this hurt. I made a mental promise to myself that from this point on I would do my best to not keep things from her.
"Edward?" Alice asked, unsure.
"We can't keep things from her anymore, she needs to know what we do. This is her father, one of the only people she has." I thought back.
"Good point." She said out loud, Bella's face dropping as she realized that we were talking about her.
Alice looked at me, wishing that she could tell me this on her how, but realizes that that won't happen. She thought about one fact, the fact that she knew it WAS Charlie on the phone...but he wasn't at any accident when he called.
I nodded, knowing that Alice was going to tell us a story, but wasn't going to include everything. She set the bag gently on the floor as she took a seat in the empty chair next to Bella's bed. She waited as we both sat down on the bed, Bella leaning against my side.
"Bella," Alice said as she thought about what to tell her. "That was your father that you talked to, you are correct about that. However, I don't believe that he is alone. I....I saw your dad Bella, he's ok...I promise he's ok but he's not in town."
Bella gasped next to me, her shoulders shaking slightly as she started to cry. I held her, knowing that this was hard for her to hear..but she wanted there to be no secrets, and in that she would have to hear things she didn't want to hear. She cried for a few minutes before she ran her hands over her eyesn and looked up at me.
"Thank you Alice, thank you for telling me the truth. I knew that something was going on, he called me by my whole name. He neverdoes that." She said as she smiled. "What can we do to find him, we have to get him."
"We will, trust us." I said as I kissed the top of her head.
"I need to get going, you need thicker clothes. I will go get them and meet you back at the hotel." She said as she looked at me.
"Yes, we'll meet you there." I said as I watched her turn and walk out of the room, her little blue bag in her hand.
Bella and I sat there for a few minutes not saying anything, I think that everything was sinking in. She rested her head against my shoulder, sighing deeply as she looked down at her hand.
"Edward," She said softly. "You have to promise me something."
"What's that?" I asked, knowing better then to tell her that I would promise her something without knowing what the promise was.
"Will you promise me that I will get to go with you, that you will include me in finding and rescuing my dad?" She asked as she turned and looked me directly in the eye.
"Bella, I can't promise you that." I said, putting one finger to her lips as she tried to interrupt. "I will promise to take you with me when it would not endanger you. I can..will not have you taken from me again." I said as I kissed her softly.
She nodded, thinking about what I promised her. Knowing Bella, she was thinking through each word, trying to find a loophole..a way to not get left behind.
Carlisle came in the room a minute later, opening the closet and taking out Bella's jacket. He held it open for her, waiting for her to go and let him help her into it.
"You're free." He said as he shook the jacket softly.
Bella squeeked in happiness as she stood up and ran, putting her arms into the jacket that Carlisle was holding for her. She pulled her long, dark hair out of the back of the jacket and turned to look at me.
"Let's go. We have to find my dad."
I stood up and walked to her side, smiling at Carlisle who was wondering how much Bella knew of what was going on. I took Bella's hand in mine, leading her down the hallway. We had just reached the back door when Rosalie burst through the door.
"They're here." She said as she glared at me.
