***Emmett's POV***
I was sitting on the bed, holding her hands in mine as I had hundred of times while she was unconcious when I saw her eyes snap open. She blinked a few times as she looked at the light that was pouring through the window. She turned her head slightly and smiled at me, which was exactly what I needed. I bent down and kissed her forehead and was surprised when she wrinkled her head at me when I pulled away.
"Rosalie?" I asked a bit loud, letting everyone know that she was awake.
"Bella, I need to talk to Bella. The red light...the...red light." She said as she scrambled away from me. "The red light..Bella, the red light!"
I was on my feet, running for Edward's room before I realized what was going on. My wife was awake, and I was very happy about that..but she was so scared and it seemed that Bella was the only person who could help her.
Chapter 13
***Bella's POV***
Emmett had just came into Edward's room, his eyes wide with fear. He told us that Rosalie was...and instantly the tears started to roll. I thought Rosalie had died, that this family had just suffered its first loss from this..illness that had struck two of it's memebers.
"No, Bella." Edward said as he wrapped his arms around me, holding me close to his side as I sobbed.
"Bella, she's asking for you." Emmett said as he touched my arm.
I gasped, trying to get control of myself. I sniffled a few times and blinked as I tried to clear the tears from my eyes. When I could see I saw that there was a large hand holding a tissue for me. I took it from Emmett's hand and smiled at him the best I could.
"She's...she's asking for me?" I said as I tried to slow my breathing.
"Yes, she said 'Bella, I need to talk to Bella. The red light...the...red light'." Emmett said as he looked at Edward and nodded.
"Why me? What do I know?" I asked quietly.
"Will you come see her?" Emmett asked as he pulled on my arm softly.
I looked at Edward, unsure about if I wanted to go see Rose. I mean, I was very happy that she was responsive..yet she seemed to think that there was something I knew. I was scared.
"It's your choice." Edward said as he looked down at me.
"I will try to help her." I said as I nodded at Emmett and started down the hall.
Emmett walked right in and for some reason I froze outside the door. Edward stopped and looked at me, obviously wondering what was going on. I shook my head at him as I took a deep breath and walked into the room.
I was surprised to see Rosalie sitting on the couch running a brush through her hair. She was pulling on a snarl so hard that as I took a step the handle snapped and she threw it across the room.
"It's useless." She cried.
"Babe, you just need to wash it. It'll come out." Emmett said as he hugged her.
"No it won't!" She cried, but then she saw me.
In less time then it took me to blink, Rosalie was standing in front of me, her hands on my shoulders. Edward moved to stop her and I shook my head. I didn't think that she was going to hurt me, but it was obvious that she was wanting to ask or tell me something.
"Bella." Rosalie cried as she hugged me tightly.
"Rose." Edward warned as he pulled her arms away and I was able to take a breath.
"Bella, it's you." She said as she reached out and touched my face.
"Ummm yeah." I said as I smiled up at her, noticing that her eyes were completely black. I knew that she hadn't fed in a while, and being this close to me was probably not a good thing.
"Rosalie, back off." Edward said, his words coming out one at a time.
"She smells so good." Rosalie said as she leaned in and sniffed at my face. I was surprised to find how incredibly still I could be.
"Emmett." Edward said as Emmett stood up and came over, pulling Rosalie away as she reached out and tried to hold on to my hand. I cried out as her nail scratched along my hand, cutting me slightly.
I instantly put my hand over the scratch and backed out of the room, running as soon as I was clear of everyone. I ran down the stairs and out the front, locking myself in the car before anyone could get close. A second later Edward knocked on the window of my truck, a first aid kit in his hand.
"It's just a scratch Bella, she didn't cut you badly." He said as he reached to open my door.
"Sorry, natural raction. I knew she hadn't fed in a while, I didn't want to tempt fate." I said as I let him tend my hand.
"She feels bad, she really needs to talk to you. Will you come back upstairs and talk to her?" He asked.
"Sure." I said as he took my hand in his and led the way back up to the house, stopping outside Emmett and Rosalie's room.
He knocked softly and walked in when someone said was ok to enter. Rosalie was sitting on the bed, her head in her hands. Emmett was sitting next to her, comforting her as much as she would allow.
"I'm sorry Bella." Rosalie said softly.
"It's ok Rosalie."
"No..it's not. You were trying to help, to come answer my question and I hurt you." Rose said as she looked up from her hands. "I'm sorry."
I went to move closer to her, but Edward's hand caught me. I turned and looked at him before pulling my hand away and walked over to touch Rosalie's hair.
"Can I?" I asked as I picked up her brush.
She nodded slowly and Emmett moved over so that I could climb onto the bed behind them, running the brush gently through her hair. No one said a word as I worked my way through her hair, I had just finished getting the knots out when Rosalie reached back and grabbed my good hand.
"Bella, while I was...." She paused, looking for the right word. "While I was gone I saw this red light, and before I returned Alice told me to ask you."
"A red light?" I asked, having no clue what she was talking about.
"Yes, it would come on...then things would be clearer for a while..then it would go off and I was in the dark, alone."
"I don't know Rosalie." I said sadly.
"Think about it, please. It might be the answer."
"I will, I promise." I said as I smiled at her.
"Em can we go eat?" Rosalie asked as she stood up and ran her fingers through her hair. "Thank you Bella."
"Sure." I said as she and Emmett stood up and walked out of the room.
Edward and I went back to his room and he helped me sit on the bed, my thoughts filled with what this 'red light' could be. I'm not sure how long I sat there, but when my stomach started growling I was brought back to the present.
"Oh." I said as I put my hand on my stomach, realizing how hungry I was.
"Pizza?" Edward asked as he started laughing. "The look on your face."
"You have pizza's in your house?" I wondered.
"No, but they deliver."
"Oh, yes please." I said as I smiled up at him and reached for my purse which moved out of my reach.
"My treat. You might want to call Charlie, it's getting late and he has to be worried."
"Oh, right." I said as I grabbed my phone and dialed Charlie's cell phone.
"Bella?" Charlie asked.
"Hi dad, do you mind if I stay here with Alice? She's still very sick and she wants me to stay with her. Please?" I asked as I looked up and saw a surprised look on Edward's face.
"Sure Bells, tell Alice I say I hope she feels better." He said as he hung up.
"Wow, that was easy." I said as I looked up at Edward. "You don't mind if I stay here do you? I can sleep in the room with Alice, or on a couch." I said, realizing I hadn't asked Edward.
"I don't mind at all." He said as he leaned down and kissed me softly. I think that I would have continued the kiss if my brain hadn't been full of the red light that Rosalie had mentioned.
"I'm going to go call for food, are you ok?" He wondered.
"Yeah, just thinking. Thank you Edward." I said as I knelt on the bed and kissed him again.
He laughed as he stepped away and walked out to go find the number. I don't know how long he was gone but while he was I had a memory of my Grandmother. I was young, sitting on the end of her bed while she got ready for the day.
She was telling me about the things that her grandmother had told her, about angels and devils, the power of faith, near death experiences and the things she had been told.
"When Uncle Michael was sick with the flu he lay in the bed for days, his fever getting so bad that he sank into a coma. We all thought he was going to die, that the good Lord had come and was taking him away. Yet, one afternoon he sat straight up saying the words 'the red light, the red light.' We asked him what that meant and he said that all he could remember was being trapped inside himself, and that the red light would come on and off and he would have moments of clarity and moments of absolute fear. He thought it was the devils doing, that it was the devil trying to take him away."
"He wouldn't speak of it for quite a while, his fear would return whenever we spoke of it. When he was elderly, he spoke of it again...yet this time it was a slightly different story. He said that the red light was the same but there was a white light that would show at times, and when the white light was there he was at peace. He said that he was a firm believer, he thought that someone was battling for him."
I don't know what happened, but the next thing I knew Edward was shaking my shoulders, calling for me to look at him. I blinked a few times and saw that Carlisle, Esme and Edward were all standing around the bed where I was laying with tears streaming down my face.
"The red light, Alice is trapped." I said as they all looked at me.
Carlisle reached out to touch my head, to check me out but I pulled away and rolled off the bed running into the room where Alice was laying. I ran directly over to the bed, jumping next to her.
"Alice, look for the white light. Believe in the white light!" I cried, then I went unconcious.
