End of Chapter 26
"What!?" Emmett yelled defensively. "I just paid for the pizza...hey you still owe me twenty dollars Edward"
"Boys." Esme said, obviously tired of the bickering.
"Then what happened Alice?" Rosalie said as she smiled sweetly at me.
"Well, I took all of that as a good sign. I figured that since I could smell, hear and feel that it meant this was almost done...but the darkness, the shadows had another plan." I said softly, swallowing loudly before I went on.
"I heard my name being called like so many times before...except that this time the voice I heard was one that I would know anywhere."
"Who's was it?" Emmett asked impatiently.
"Mine." Jasper said sadly.
Chapter 27
I turned and looked at Jasper who was doing his best to hide the hurt I knew he was feeling, but for a fraction of a second I saw the emotion behind the mask he put on for everyone. I wanted to stop, to get up and run away like Rosalie did but Edward saw my thoughts and shook his head.
"You make the pain worse by making us wait..by making him wait." Edward thought.
"I can't do this, I can't." I said as I hung my head.
I felt a hand slip under my chin, pulling my face back up so that I was looking into a pair of golden eyes that were full of love and anticipation.
"I don't know what you and Edward just said to each other," Jasper said, his hands soft against my cheeks. "But it doesn't matter, please just finish this story. I won't run away, I'm not leaving you again."
I looked into his eyes, so ready to tell him that I wasn't ready...that I would never tell this part of the story, but he sent love and reassuring emotions at me as he smiled. I took a deep breath, inhaling all of the love deeply as he wrapped his arms around me and kissed my neck.
"Oh come on!" Emmett said as he leaned forward, not seeing Rosalie's hand moving until it smacked him in the back of the head as she mumbled something about inconsiderate.
"It's alright," Jasper whispered in my ear.
"Jasper's voice called my name, and at first I thought it was just a moment of clarity. I turned, expecting to see the Jasper from my memory, but what I saw....ut was better then anything I had seen before."
"I turned and saw you." I whispered as I looked over my shoulder at Jasper. "When I saw you it was like you were a angel, walking out of the darkness. You were the most beautiful thing I had ever seen. You walked out of the shadow, your arms outstretched for me."
"I had a second of wondering if you were struck sick too, but when you smiled every thought I had went blank...the only thought I had was you. I ran to you, jumping into your arms with joy. I had no reason to doubt that it wasn't Jasper, it looked, felt even smelt like him."
"I just wanted him to hold me, to be together...even hell it's self would be bearable with you with me." I said as I smiled.
"Well this all sounds like a good thing." Esme said softly as she smiled at me.
"I thought so too, and it was for a while. Jasper took me into a clearing that was surrounded by roses that were black as night, when I asked he called them midnight roses. He told me about how they opened at night, how the reminded him of our kind. We sat in the clearing, my hand wrapped in his...my hand gripping his for dear life. Neither of us said a word, i was just so happy to have him with me...afraid that he would disappear any second."
"'Alice,' He said as he turned and faced me. 'Alice I can't stay long, but there is something I must tell you before I leave.'" I made myself stop, my entire body shaking in fear.
Jasper held me tighter, but that just made it all worse. I wanted to run, to hide, to tell them all to forget this all, that I just wanted to back to the old life we all had.
"Alice!" Edward said, I opened my eyes and found him standing in front of me. "Alice, come with me."
"Edward?" I said as I sobbed.
I reached one hand out to him and was shocked when I heard Jasper growl and he pulled me tighter against his chest.
"No." Jasper growled at Edward.
"Jazz," Edward sighed. "Look at her, she's petrified. You can feel her emotions Jasper, what is she feeling?"
"Edward, I just got her back. Please don't take her away from me." Jasper said, the sorrow in his voice breaking my heart.
"What is Alice feeling Jasper?" Carlisle asked.
"She's scared..no petrified, so full of sorrow and uncertainty." Jasper said softly as his hands released me, Edward's hands moving to my shoulders to help me feel better. I made the mistake of looking back at Jasper as I stood up, and when I saw his face I had a vision...a vision of Jasper leaving...for good.
