End of Chapter 9
***Emmett's POV***
I ran and jumped back over the river, smiling at Alice and Jasper as I ran back to fight with Edward. He smiled as he waved his fingers out at me, challenging to run at him again...and of course I did. Edward's foot tripped me, knocking me to the ground, his foot stepping on my chest as he smiled down at me.
"I win." He said as he stepped on me.
"Damn it." I said, realizing this was a battle that I wouldn't win today.
"Next time..." I said as I laughed.
"Yeah yeah." He said as he turned to remove his foot, but my hand caught his foot and pulled him to the ground next to me, both of us laughing.
"Next time." I said as I got up and looked down at myself, realizing that I had ruined these clothes and it would probably be better if I changed before Rosalie got home.
Chapter 10
***Edward's POV***
I got up and brushed myself off, laughing to myself as Emmett rushed into the house his thoughts were full of fear. The fear of Rosalie. The fear of how she would react if she came home and found that he had ruined another outfit. I wondered if I should help him get rid of the evidence, but decided against it. Her reaction could be fun to watch, maybe I should go up to their room when he went out and lay the clothes out on the bed for her to find. I was about to turn and go into the house when I heard Alice's voice call out to me, her voice echoing in my mind.
I turned and faced where her and Jasper were still sitting. I knew that Jasper was angry with me for telling Alice about he reacted with the girl at school, and Alice was worried because he wouldn't talk to her about it.
"Edward, is he alright?" Alice's voice called.
I shrugged my shoulders, unsure what I should tell her. I focused on Jazz's 'voice,' not surprised when I heard him think about the way the girl had smelt, how tempted he was to go to her and do things that would have endangered all of us. The second he thought that he was ashamed, unsure of himself...he wasn't sure he was 'fit to be a Cullen.' I didn't realize I was storming across the yard until Jasper stood up and put his hand out, pressing it hard against my stop.
"Edward?" He asked.
"You truly are an idiot!" I said as I shoved at his hands.
"Edward!" Alice said.
"Tell her Jazz, tell her about what you were thinking!" I spit at him.
Jasper instantly looked down at his feet, he knew that I was listening to his thoughts. He thought of how betrayed he was, how angry he was that I couldn't keep this between us. His thoughts turned bitter, wondering how everyone would react if 'the perfect' son messed up. How everyone would react if I had thoughts, or actually ended up hurting a human. I snapped out of his thoughts, looking up to see him glaring at me, the look of hate one that I hadn't seen on his face in many years.
"Stop it!" Alice said as she stepped between us. "Knock it off."
"Maybe you aren't worthy." I said to Jasper as I turned and started back towards the house, knowing that what I said was cruel.
"Edward." Alice called.
I turned at the door and looked to find her watching me, Jasper staring at her. Her thoughts were screaming at me, she couldn't find Jasper's future.
"I'm sorry." I said as I walked into the house, directly into Carlisle who had obviously been watching the whole thing.
"What is wrong Edward?"
"Jasper doesn't think he's fit to be a Cullen because he was tempted by a young girl at school." I said as I walked past him into the kitchen.
"Why would he think that? We've all made our mistakes....we're all far from perfect."
"I don't know why, but apparently his future is gone...and somehow this is all my fault." I said as I turned and past Carlisle back outside, running into the garage just as Rosalie pulled in.
"Edward?" She asked as I slammed the car door a bit harder then I should have.
I didn't wait for her to ask again, throwing the car into drive and accelerated until the house and my family were but a speck in the rear view mirror.
