End of Chapter 29
I knew we were in trouble, I knew that Michael and I couldn't out run them...and Piper and Conco were getting tired. I knew that they were going to catch us, and once they did..only God knows what they would do to us. I felt the tears rolling down my face before I realized that I was crying. I wished that my mother was here, that she or any of my other newly found family members would find me...wait...or I could find her.
"Michael." I called as I reached my hand out for him.
He pushed Concho over so that we were close enough for him to grab my and in a fraction of a second I worried that it wouldn't work with more then one person..but I had to try. I reached my free hand up and squeezed the rose that hung around my neck, calling to my mother for help.
I wasn't sure if it was going to work, the last things I heard were the woman's voice yelling in anger, and a sound that chilled my being down to my bones, a scream or screech of something that was not human in any way.
Chapter 30
I had squeezed my eyes shut as hard as I could, knowing that the woman and man were mere inches away from me. I knew they were close, that they were going to catch us and no matter what I did both Michael and I were doomed. I was so focused on my own fate that I didn't notice that Piper had stopped until her head shook and her soft whinny reassure me enough to open my eyes. When I opened my eyes I was absolutely shocked, I expected to see the woods that we were running through, the man and woman close behind us...but what I was couldn't be more different.
We were in a clearing, as peaceful and serene as possible. There was no wind, no sounds other then the horses feet on the ground. I looked over and found Michael staring at me, his eyes wide as he looked around in confusion.
"Maija?" He asked as Concho moved closer to where Piper and I had stopped. I smiled at him as I looked around, knowing somewhere deep in my soul that my mother had taken us somewhere safe.
A branch snapping behind us made both of us jump, and sent Concho into super defensive horse mode. He stepped closer to the sound as he held his head high and looked as tough as possible. I heard a quiet laugh that could have been mistaken with the wind if I didn't know better. Diana walked out of the woods, her entire body washed in the sun that was shining behind her.
"You can relax my son." She said as she stepped forward towards Concho who instantly relaxed when the Goddess touched him. It was like someone flipped a switch in him, he went from the defensive, guard horse to a...well he was almost like a puppy who was being praised. Diana scratched him for a minute before turning her praises to Piper who nuzzled at Diana like they were old friends.
"I must be seeing things." Michael said softly.
"Nope, you're seeing Diana...who has turned my horses into puppies." I laughed.
"Maija," She said as she reached over and took my hand in hers. "Your mother said that you might be here. She was busy, so I said I would come. I hope you don't mind."
"No, not at all." I said as I bowed slightly in the saddle.
"You were being chased?" She asked, which got my attention...my mom must have told her about our adventure, that or she had been watching out for us too which made me feel safer then I had for a long time.
"Yeah, they came from nowhere. My mom said that I should trust my instincts...and somehow I knew that they wanted to hurt us." I said softly.
"You have met two of those who want to hurt you, who want to ruin all joy and happiness in your life. They will try to ruin your joy Maija, ruin your life so that you will have no hope...please try and trust in what you know and most importantly to who you have around you." Diana said as she stepped closer, but when she took the step, the strangest thing happened...everything in this happy place changed in a heartbeat.
I was smiling down at her when I heard Michael gasp and in the time it took for me to look over, Michael and Concho disappeared....a scream escaping both of their lips before they were gone.
