Rory and Loreali's relationship is unique in the fact that they are only 16-17 years apart, so they are naturally closer then most mothers and daughters. It is also largely due to the way Lorelai brought Rory up; they are best friends most of the time, but Lorelai can still pull the Mum card out when she needs to, and what's also good is that both have seperate best friends who they can go to if they are mad as each other and need to talk to someone, such as when Rory slept with Dean, and she went to Lane.
