This is the ONLY song that made me cry the first time I heard it. It's mostly sad because the meaning is painfully true. sometimes it's not a choice being bad, it's just the way you are. I guess it doesn't make it less depressing that (according to Voltaire) it's about man on death row requesting to see his mother.
I have several songs that make me 'sad' just because they're so beautiful, but I don't have any songs that make me cry because of the lyrics or anything.

because out of all the musicians, artists, and bands with real musical, lyrical, or vocal talent, people would rather spend their money on something so shallow and meaningless. That is why this song makes me sad.
