What's the difference between Hard Rock and Metal?

Hard rock uses more simplefied riffs and different vocal work than metal.

Metal uses more guitar techniques and sounds a lot heavier than hard rock.

The simple riffs of hard rock allow the singers to sing a more rap/pop style than metal.
