Time: 7:56 AM
Railroad: Union Pacific
After dropping off empty freight cars to be loaded with wood, and steel, Metal Gloss brought the engine she was using into the servicing facility.
Percy: How did it go?
Metal Gloss: Good, this just needs to be refueled.
Jeff: We're on it.
Metal Gloss: *Walks to the left, and goes into a shed. She sees engine 8444* Looks like you've been renumbered after all. *Leaves the shed*
Jeff: Now where are you going?
Metal Gloss: To talk to Pete.
in his office.
Pete: *Signing papers* This is practically the only thing I do here. The railroad constantly sends me so many damn papers, that I have to spend all my time signing them in this fucking office.
Metal Gloss: *Knocks on the door*
Pete: Come on in.
Metal Gloss: *Opens the door, and walks in*
Pete: Good to see you Metal Gloss.
Metal Gloss: Thank you Pete. Can I ask you something?
Pete: What?
Metal Gloss: Will 844 have that extra 4 for long?
Pete: I'm not sure. It could stay that way for over twenty years.
Metal Gloss: Why did it get the extra 4?
Pete: Because of the new GP30's. We have them numbered in the 800's, and having two 844's would be confusing.
Metal Gloss: You could have them numbered differently.
Pete: Look, it's not my decision on which engine gets which number. Wanna talk about it? Go to Omaha.
Metal Gloss: At headquarters?
Pete: Yes.
Metal Gloss: Uh, I'll forget we even had this conversation. *Walks away* Headquarters? Nopony has the balls to talk to them. Unless it's about good praise.
When she returned to the yards, Hawkeye and Stylo entered in a freight train. They brought hopper cars of gravel from Laramie.
Metal Gloss: *Walking towards them*
Stylo: Your wife seems upset.
Hawkeye: It's about 844 being renumbered. She wouldn't stop talking about it last night.
The two stallions got out to talk to her.
Metal Gloss: Hi Pierce.
Hawkeye: Hey.
Stylo: What? No hi for me?
Hawkeye: Hi Stylo.
Stylo: Not from you.
Metal Gloss: Sorry Stylo, I'm just upset right now.
Hawkeye: Still upset about 844?
Metal Gloss: Yeah. Renumbering that engine just doesn't seem right. It's the only engine we've had that's never been retired from service, and renumbering it feels like desecration.
Hawkeye: I know.
Metal Gloss: And with that engine starting excursion service tomorrow, what will the fans think?
Stylo: The same thing that you're thinking about right now.
Hawkeye: Very likely, or, they may like the change.
Metal Gloss: I hope so.
