Ok, lets talk of Obito, before you ignore it and call him a bad character. I admit, I thought so too. I mean he was just repeating how the world sucked and that he missed Rin. He felt much less interesting than we thought him to be. His fight against Naruto and Sasuke felt boring and rushed. But it hit me why Obito was so bland. I personally think Kishi did it on purpose. I mean remember 665 when Madara said Obito was also Madara, that was when I understand Obito\'s character. Obito changed to Tobi because Rin died, but the reason he changed wasn\'t the fact Rin died but the fact Kakashi killed her. It completely went against the Will of Fire, which based on Shikamaru\'s words is like a religion to Konoha ninja. So Obito returned broken, depressed by the death of his good friend and his vision of the world gone. It made him like Sasuke, a piece of clay ready to be shaped.

Which Madara did, but Obito being Obito didn\'t truly believe in it. He was just depressed and was looking for anything to dull the pain. You can think of it as a person giving up on their religion and growing cynical as a result. Which is why his speeches was repetitive, he was just recycling everything Madara told him. He was just Madara lite, he had no real care for his speeches. His obsession with Rin isn\'t just because of his love for her but also she represents the past. A past when he still believed in heroes; when he was still Obito.

Obito represents how people can follow ideals that they have no real understanding of, but it takes over their life. Historical grudges are a good example, some people don\'t understand why their country hates another but does it anyway. It shows how the past can influence the present, so much that even truly kind characters like Obito can be turned into monsters. Which is why I like him a lot more after he betrayed Madara. He was finally himself again, as noticed how most of his speeches wasn\'t about Rin. And he seemed to be deeper as a character, as least in my eyes.

I love the way you summed this up. I have the exact same feelings. While Obito is not my favorite character, and IMO, usually most of the chapters that revolve around him I do not like, I still do not hate Obito, and I actually kind of like him- unlike most of the fanbase. I think he gets a lot of undeserved hate. And while I can\'t say that I am not disappointed at how his character turned out, I still think Obito is a pretty solid character. On a related note, who do you like more- Obito or Tobi? While they are the same person, they are definitely not the same character. For me, it\'s Tobi all the way! I absolutely love him, and that is why Obito is a little bit of a disappointment...

Well, he was never my favorite either, but I think Kishi is too good of a writer to not realize his speeches were repetitive. I like Tobi more, he was badass. But Obito in chapter 665 onward I do like. At least more than Sasuke(I don\'t really like Sasuke)

i agree with you completely NarutosRevival i actually like obito alot i dont think he deserves so much hate as the fans give him but yes its not just because of rin sure most of it involved her but its mostly the world and ideals he was taught as a boy break down infront of him and believes its all hopeless and importantly a hell but i still think obitos a solid character and there are times when i actually feel sorry for him

I agree to a certain extent. I never had a problem with Obito nor had any hate from him. I think his problem was he went from super bad ass villian to another cog in the wheel. Yes, madara did shape him in his worst time but it\'s almost like a joker saying even the most sane person can become insane on a bad day. Him and pain were almost too much alike.

yeah i didnt like how speech no jutsu was used on him but to an extent it sorta makes sense i guess in order to beat a villan who was corrupted by another he had to be saved from someone who was like him obito did say naruto was like him when he was younger

One fatal error in your summary is that it had absolutely nothing to do with Kakashi personally killing Rin that made him into Tobi. When Madara questioned Obito\'s intentions of the Eye of the Moon Plan, he said he would have both Rin and Kakashi in the dream world. That\'s also why when Kakashi questioned as to whether or not Obito blamed him, he said "what good will blaming you do?" and then proceeded to talk about the worthless reality and so forth. Furthermore, whilst in the pocket dimension with Kakashi, he revealed the truth of her death and Kirigakure\'s plan to use her. He knew everything about it and why, but he didn\'t care. It was simply because she was no longer alive that he went down the path of darkness. Well, that coupled with the cruel ninja world and what it meant to be a shinobi.

In a way, Obito held on to his idea of trying to produce a new shinobi world as he promised as a kid, albeit this method was a bit more aggressive and forceful.

Well, I think he wasn\'t mad at Kakashi, he was just disillusion that their reality forced Kakashi to do that. When he learned it was the mist, he just grew more disgusted.

What Obito didn\'t realize was that Rin\'s death was all part of Madara\' plan to corrupt him.
