Binarism, a word which here means has to be a man or woman. For Peter Pan, this means The coloring looks like a Barbie doll & the shirt is WAY too low cut, the V emphasizes Alison Willams' breasts, particularly when she's in motion, the fish netting gives it a hint of sexuality. For Tiger Lily, it's even worse! I'm nonbinary, and I don't dress in party streamers, or like a stripper! Being that Alanna Saunders is Cherokee, this is intersectional racism, or racism and sexism combined! The choreography for "True Blood Brothers" emphasizes the cut in the stripper outfit that goes up to her private parts! Sondra Lee, the original Tiger Lily, wore pants and a long-sleeved shirt, white privilege grants you some level of protection when being gender non-conforming. Also, the colors on Tiger Lily’s and Peter Pan’s costumes match, which makes sense fashion design-wise, but Peter Pan is a boy. People associate bright colors with being female! This was devastating to see because on top of that people on Twitter were not shy about expressing the opinion that a woman shouldn't be allowed to play Peter Pan, which is sexist and lends Itself well to transphobia, and IS binarism itself! and NBC did nothing to stop this. I guess you could say this was the first time I was called a woman and had a gender identity crisis! If a woman can't be Peter Pan, a boy then what am I? To me "Peter Pan" is a show that challenges gender, and Peter Pan Live reinforces gender, that's why it's immoral!
