There are no choices. Nothing but a straight line. The illusion comes afterwards, when you ask "Why me?" and "What if?". When you look back and see the branches, like a pruned bonsai tree, or forked lightning. If you had done something differently, it wouldn't be you, it would be someone else looking back, asking a different set of questions.

This is quite an interesting quote and a dilemma people have been debating for hundreds of years from different approaches and points of view: philosophical, social, religious and so on. The thing is, there is no absolute truth: one can only say his/her opinion or feelings, so there can be no end to this discussion.

I, personally, agree with it to a certain extent. I believe that most of the things that happen to us are impossible to control or predict and that every single moment - no matter how unimportant it may seem - has an enormous effect over our lives, our future. Call it the butterfly effect, karma, the rules of the universe, faith, the theory of the cause & effect, destiny - it doesn't matter: one thing leads to another, and every second, every moment changes something in the course of your life. What we are, who we are, how we evolve and change in every single way (from our ideas and principles to our behaviour)... these things are the total sum of all the little, apparently insignificant moments we live, of our own experience that constantly alters us...

This is how I see things, but then again... I could be wrong...
