i was a very lucky girl, I was rich and I was free. I left St. Vladimir's two years ago, after I had killed Dimitri last year, I went to visit a commune, where my old friend, Kara, who I'd met in Baia, stayed.
Yes, a commune, a blood whore commune, Kara was strong, but this was a different commune instead of blood and sex, these dhampirs give blood, sex while earning money, and possibly tips.
That's how I got so rich, I know, people have been spreading rumors about me, back at school, and I hear that they still are. I've never been found by my former friends.
After I had earned… a lot of money, I was pretty much known across the moroi/dhampir community.
But I quit, and got back into shape, I saw that these girls in this commune didn't want to become a blood whore; they were forced into it, but me? I needed the money, I just earned… too much.
"Rose, let's get this show on the road!" Kara shouted from our convertible, that I bought so we could go out on stake outs quickly. Yes we still go on stake outs, I recruited some pretty and strong dhampirs to be… a group of vigilantes of some sort, going across the country, killing strigoi, sure, I mean, we aren't guardians, but that doesn't mean we can't kill.
"Sure thing, girl!" I giggled as our group hopped into the car. I looked at everyone.
There was Kara of course she's one year older than me and practically my sister, she had dark brown hair and killer legs, like most dhampirs she was tan, she had dark blue eyes and wore a grey jacket, and a dark blue tank top with dark jeans.
Alyson , she was my age and had auburn hair, she had green eyes and was small for a twenty year old, I guess, probably about Mia's height. She too wore a jacket that kept her warm in these cold conditions in Montana, yea, we're still in Montana, we left Russia and came here where there were more strigoi were lurking and hiding in the shadows instead of roaming freely where everyone can see them.
And Michaela, she's nineteen years old and her light brown hair cascaded down her shoulders perfectly, she's the youngest of the group and we were all a little protective over her. She was tan and pretty, she had long legs like Kara.
Me? I guess I look the same, My hair's longer, but has golden streaks in it, that Michaela put in for me, my eyes were more alert, I wore a black tank top with black denim jeans, and Dimitri's leather duster, I had cut the sleeves and the hem and altered it to fit me, it still looked the same, except smaller.
I missed Dimitri so much, the way he loved my hair, the way he was honorable, they way he cared.
I also remember the way his bites made me feel high, the way his hands caressed my body, the way he… No! Shut the hell up!
"Hey, did you hear that?" Michaela asked, I listened in closely and heard the bushes ruffling and saw a dozen figures closing in on us, but… no strigoi.
"They're not strigoi, I can sense them, they're either humans or dhampirs, they could be moroi," I raised an eyebrow, something I learnt to do last year.
"Humans can't move as quietly and moroi move less quietly than dhampir, dhampirs are sneaky and they're trained to be," Kara informed us as Alyson's grip on her silver stake loosened.
Michaela smiled evilly, "Let's take them down," She whispered, I laughed quietly and stepped out.
I stood up straight and scanned the dhampirs. "We know you're here, just let it go," I laughed at them as they tried to appear scary.
"You're going to get hurt either way, it won't be good on your report that you got taken down by four innocent girls," Alyson sneered, she smirked when one guy growled.
"Sorry, did she hurt you? Maybe if you can step out of sight she won't break your neck," Kara insulted.
"You know what? Aly's right, we're so innocent, it would make you look pathetic," Michaela taunted.
"Tsk, tsk, tsk, boys, I thought that you would be better instead of being scared of four girls," My lips lifted in a small smile as I shot forward and punched the first guy I could see… Well, this is different.
"Hell yea, girl," Kara smiled and joined in, picking another guy to beat up.
"I would stop if I were you," I turned to the deep voice, and rested my eyes on a dhampir who had a dagger to Michaela's throat, I hissed.
"You wouldn't," I stared deep into his eyes.
"Wouldn't I? I mean, you're no longer under the commandment of the queen… but… move and she's gone," He pressed the blade closer to Michaela's throat. I looked at the others who had stopped fighting and was scared out of their mind. I nodded to Aly and Kara, and dropped our stakes in a sign of surrender.
"Good girls, now get in the car, Woods, Grey, Stanley, get their stakes. You girls are needed," He said.
"Needed? Needed where?" Aly asked as she hopped in the back seat of our car, while Kara hopped in next to her, the dhampir placed Michaela next as she started snarling fiercely, I was left in the front seat while the big guy was in the driver's seat driving us to our little house in the middle of nowhere.
The house was beautiful, it was simple, but not small, it looked quite the family house, the walls were stone, that gave it a Gothic style, the door was arched and oak, and the front yard had green grass, a stone driveway and some large blocks of concrete for steps.
We were sent in with the big guy who drove us here, we found out his name was Jake.
I packed a few T-shirts, some shorts, sweatpants, jeans, tank tops, jackets, stakes and some other essentials.
There was a black car behind us where the other eleven guardians were and when I reached Jake, I said, "So, J, where are we going?" I asked in my Rose Hathaway voice.
"To the Royal Court, Her majesty requests your assistance, until then you and your friends will be held in a cell until your release, I'm sorry Miss. Hathaway, but there's some troubles going on at court," He looked at me and we drove off with our bags in the black car and Aly, Michaela and Kara in the backseat, looking at me concerned.
I was going back to the Royal Court, and this time I can't get out of it, well, unfortunately, I'll have to revisit my past.
The people I remembered, Christian, Eddie, Lissa and Adrian. I choked on the names as I thought them out loud. I don't know if my past clashing with my present, would cause someone to turn and walk away. I'll have to live with this one, but we're going to court and in front of all those Royal Moroi, I don't know if I could.
Dammit all, whoever is responsible for this, I'll have a little talk to them.
