Annie- Partial Goodbye, Wall Sina 

I’ve managed to get a copy of the VN, and just finished reading it recently. It was an interesting read, and rather easy to read

even though there are some parts I don’t understand

A huge part of the VN (summary) is about how Annie attempts to crack the case, how she deals with the people she comes across, with the occasional flashback to her past with her father, and some insights on Annie’s thoughts, which will be the gist of this post. And Hitch will be showing up too. I love their dynamics in this VN.

The below translations mainly contains Annie’s thoughts regarding things in general (I’m excluding the detective work), and things I find interesting.

(Hitch invited Annie to join in her Wall Sina trip once)

Annie was invited once, on the first off-day, after joining the Military Police.

She refused, without any special reasons, and Hitch never invited her again.

Ever since then, Annie would spent her day off on her own.

Whenever she spots a long sleeved hoodie in a shop, she will try it.

After her walk, she will do some training to keep up.

In the afternoon, she will be reading a book quietly at the library. It’s a quiet, calm, and peaceful day.

Annie blew at them. The dust swirled around.

Round and round, dancing crazily. And eventually subsided.

She repeated that a couple of times. And gaze at the dancing dust absent-mindedly.

Hitch changed her clothes, from a frilly pink pajamas, to a frilly pink dress. Then she sat down again and started putting on makeup.

"A senior officer passed this to me about five days ago, asking me to look for her."

"Hey, could you stop with that ‘so’? I’m starting to feel like I’m being questioned by you right now."

"I will once I find other ways to express it", Annie said, "So?"

(After leaving the barracks, they bumped into each other again.)

And chatted with her girlfriends as they head towards the jetty.

Annie went in the opposite direction than them.

Seems like it’s gonna be a warm day.

When Annie was still at her hometown, she would spend day and night with her father.

He would wake her up before dawn, and they’ll train until the sun sets.

Annie was forced by her father, to kick the padding on his legs, day after day.

She would continue kicking until her legs were swollen. She was not allowed to rest.

Her father firmly believed that this training will help her with her mission.

Carrying out this mission is your purpose in life.

She couldn’t go against her father, who forced her to learn these techniques, despite knowing how worthless they were deep down.

She couldn’t go against her father, who ordered her to carry out the mission.

Definite obedience ———— such was the relationship between Annie and her father.

"I’m not stupid enough to be playing soldier in this boring world."

That was what Annie told Eren Yeager during trainee days.

She believed in that then. And she still believe in that now.

Yet, at this very moment, she’s ‘playing soldier’.

Listening to complains, being lied to, having her butt touched by drunkards, walking around in the seething heat. In fact, she is supposed to be resting for her mission tomorrow, yet she’s now wasting her off day to look for Carly S.

Why? She asked herself, to which she can only reply with, “Who knows”.

Maybe because she had seen E. G. Stratmann looking tired and so worn out.

Maybe she just wanted to avoid thinking about the depressing mission tomorrow.

I don’t know. I never understood what was happening.

And, that probably didn’t start now.

Note: Butt touching happened the first time she entered the bar, by one of the three drunkards.

Have I ever understood a thing that happened in my life up till now?

Why was I receiving training in hand-to-hand combat before I was even old enough. Why was I even sent here.

And now, I’m trying to fulfill a mission without understanding what it means/signify.

I’ve also caused the death of Mina Carolina, Franz Kefka, Hannah Diamant, Nac Tius, Mylius Zeramuski, and Thomas Wagner.

Marco Bodt ———- I’ve caused his death too.

I’ll probably be causing the death of many people tomorrow again.

And stain my hands with more blood again.

When I succeed, I’ll return to my hometown, without understanding why am I receiving a reward from whoever they are.

In any case, life after that will continue to be full of the unknowns.

Together with the people I’ve sent to their death.

Note: Annie doesn’t understand what purpose/meaning the mission serve. It doesn’t mean she doesn’t understand the reasoning behind the mission (it would be really stupid if it’s true)

Training in hand-to-hand combat suddenly started one morning.

You must complete your task no matter what happened.

That it is his purpose in life to make Annie carry out the mission.

Her father continued on. You have to fulfill your mission.

He knelt down in front of her, and placed his hands on her narrow shoulders.

Even if you are hated by the whole world, I will always be on your side.

There was a unspoken message in that —— If you are in any danger, it’s fine to abandon everything.

But, Annie understood —— If she didn’t fulfill her mission, she can’t return.

She stopped the shower, and decided —— I don’t care how many people would die for that.

I will crush all those who tries to, no matter who they are.

No matter what, I will return to my hometown —— That is the only thing I need to achieve.

Returning to her room, she looked at the clock. She still have some time left to sleep.

She crawled into her bed, into the covers and shut her eyes. Her tears threatened to fall.

But Annie held them back, and soon fell into a deep sleep.
