When they kept talking about the prophecy and bringing balance to the Force, it was never mentioned exactly which side needed to be added to in order to bring that balance about.

thats an intersting question because depending how you look at it it could be either one i mean it was anakin who over throw the chancellor then his death brought the force back into balance but luke encouraged him so without luke would the results have been the same excellent question but in all i think it was anakin

If Luke wasn't arround, it might never happend.
But it was still Anakin who actually did it

Well, its both actually. Anakin was " the chosen one" but fell to the darkside. Padme's spirit and goodwill lived on in her children and they rebelled against their father until he saw what was really happening with the HELP of LUKE. And then together they defeated the Emperor and brought balance back to the force.

Sure, Luke helped... But in the end, it was Anakin who brought balance to the force.

I get what nevermind and jedigal mean- but Anakin only turned back to good when he heard Luke crying out to him. Maybe it took both of them???

It was meant to be so it happened. Luke helped his father come back to the light side, but it was Anakin who restored balance to the force by killing the Emperor.

Anakin, Luke just helped him. Anakin restored the balance.

well, i mean he was the one to kill the emperor.. so in the end Anakin did. :)

Well, I know what you mean... all the same, saying "Luke only helped" is just insulting. It was his determination, courage, love and compassion that brought Anakin back. Anakin would never do it if it weren't for Luke.

I believe the prophecy referred to Anakin/Darth Vader, but he would never have accomplished if it wasn't for Luke. It was Luke's doing, even when tecnically speaking the one who threw Sidious down that thing was Vader. Besides, I wouldn't say that with that he defeated him, but I would say that Luke defeated the Emperor just by refusing to join him.

Well I think they both played their part but I definitely think Anakin might have done it when he threw Palpatine down the core to save Luke (his son)
