Symphonic Metal Question

Would you consider bands like Lacuna Coil, Evanescence, or Apocalyptica "Symphonic Metal"?

I've never thought about it before, but I've realized a lot of people online count them as symphonic metal. Are they?

Ehh...Apocolyptica I would, the other two not so much. They are more Gothic, which is generally about atmospheric keyboards than symphonics.

Good question.    Depending on the song. Most of their songs are orchestra metal.

Apocalytica could be classified as symphonic metal because of their music style. Lacuna Coil wouldn't count as symphonic metal. They're classified at gothic metal. Evanescence does have some elements of gothic metal, but it's actually considered alternative rock.

No. The closest one would probably be Apocalyptica. I love Lacuna Coil, and Evanescence is my favorite band, but I can't call them "symphonic metal". I would really just categorize them as "modern rock" or "normal rock". They both right great lyrics like a symphonic metal band, though.

Lacuna Coil and Apocalyptica yes. I love Evanescence but I think it's more rock or gothic metal.

I don't consider either Lacuna Coil or Evanescence to be Symphonic Metal. Evanescence seems more Modern Alternative Rock while Lacuna Coil seems to have more of a hard rock/metal (alternative) edge to their music. Apocalyptica seems more geared toward symphonic metal. though they maybe more avant garde type of band since they use cellos.
