The Heroes of Olympus The Stolen Symbol

Aphrodite100 posted on Jan 16, 2012 at 06:55PM
This is my first story on fanpop, so sorry if its not good.

Rating - I don't really know...

Dedications - to anyone who reads this.

Characters - so far only Rosalia Anderson, Joseph Bickingson, Nadia Bickingson, Genna, Josie Hart, and the Greek gods. I may add more characters as I go, so don't be confused of there's more characters than these ones.

Summary: Rosalia Anderson is a demigod. Her mother is Aphrodite, but she always gets attacked by monsters.

Although she doesn't know it, she will have to save the gods from having another war by finding the Lost Symbol.

The prophecy:

In a land, lies a god, mistaken,
Where a hidden treasure has been taken.
A child shall find it, and with the truth,
One shall retire at the wish of Death.

^sorry if the prophecy was terrible...its my first one.

my posting schedule - whenever I have the chance.

Chapter 1: Demigod Camp
Rosalia

Hi, my name is Rosalia Anderson. I am 16 years old, and in a couple of days, I'll be 17. I have ADHD and dyslexia; a sure sign of being a demigod. My father is a mortal named Jakob Anderson, while I never knew my mother. My guess is that she's Aphrodite.

On Saturday, my guess was confirmed. It was a nice sunny day, and a lightning bolt flashed over my house. I was sitting next to the window, so I casually looked outside. A girl, around my age, was waving at me like, 'Come on, I'm on a time limit here!'

"Gotta go, Dad!" I shouted as I got up and ran to the door.

My dad met me at the door and handed me my backpack.

"Come home when you can," he said as I walked out of the door.
"I will, promise," I said just before the door closed behind me.

I ran to the girl on the sidewalk.

"Hello Rosalia, I'm Genna, daughter of Zeus, and I'm going to escort you to Demigod Camp," she said, grabbing my hand.

The next few things happened in a blur. One minute I was standing on the sidewalk with Genna, then the next minute, I'm standing on a beautiful hillside.

"Where am I?" I asked.
"Demigod Camp," Genna said proudly.

ok, so that's only part of the chapter. tell me what you think!

Below the hill was a big cluster of cabins. I could easily see the twelve major gods': Zeus, Hera, Poseidon, Demeter, Athena, Dionysus, Apollo, Artemis, Ares, Aphrodite, Hephaestus, and Hermes. All around them were tons of cabins, and I knew that the cabins belonged to other gods and goddesses.

I followed Genna to a big light blue cabin. Inside were two teenagers playing a water version of chess. When we walked in, the girl looked over and immediately stood up. It was obvious that she and her brother were the leaders of this camp. When I looked at her brother, I blushed. To keep myself from staring, I quickly looked away.

"Hello, my name is Nadia Bickingson, and this is my brother, Joseph Bickingson. We are children of Poseidon. Welcome to Demigod Camp," the girl said, holding her hand out. When I shook it, Nadia continued what she was saying. "Genna, you may go back to your activities; Joseph will show Rosalia around."

With that, Genna smiled reassuringly and left.

"Rosalie, in your bag should be a small package; would you mind taking it out?" Nadia asked.

"Ok," I said as I reached into my backpack and pulled out a small box, carefully wrapped in a layer of thin paper. Inside the box was a small dove; the symbol of Aphrodite. I was right about who my mother was after all.

When Nadia saw the symbol, she gasped and stumbled backwards, and would've fallen down if Joseph hadn't caught her.

"What's wrong?" I asked. I thought I'd done something wrong.

"N-nothing. It's just unusual for a daughter of Aphrodite to come here," Nadia said. Something told me she wasn't telling me the truth, but I let it go.

"Joseph, you should really just go show Rosalia around," Nadia said.

Joseph looked at his sister and whispered something.

"Yes, I'm sure," Nadia said.

Joseph looked at me and slightly blushed.

"We should start the tour," he said.

"Ok, let's go," I said, blushing.

Chapter 2: The Tour
Joseph

"This is the mess hall, and that cabin over there is Aphrodite's cabin, the one you'll be in..." I continued to talk, but wasn't really paying attention to what I was saying. I'd said this millions of times before. I was thinking about Nadia's reaction to who Rosalia's parent was. I wonder why-

"Joseph? Are you even listening to me?" Rosalia asked, sounding irritated.

"Huh? Sorry," I said, looking down.
"I said, can we go into my cabin? We can finish the tour tomorrow, can't we? It's getting dark and cold," Rosalia said, looking up at me.
"Sure. Come on," I said, walking back to the cabin.

On the way to the cabin, we had small conversations.

"How many demigods are here?"
"Maybe twenty? Not that many, because there's a camp in New York called Camp Half-Blood, so usually, the demigods go to that camp."

"How long have you been at this camp?"
"I came here when I was ten, so about seven years."
"You're seventeen?"
"Yep."

By then, we'd reached the cabin. Rosalia was practically glowing with happiness, but I couldn't figure out why.

I opened the door to the cabin and let Rosalia in. While I started a fire, Rosalia put her clothes in a dresser. When she finished, Rosalia came over to the fire with me.

"So, how old are you?" I asked curiously.
"Sixteen. I'll be seventeen in a couple of days, though," Rosalia said.

I looked into her bright blue eyes. Without thinking about it, I leaned forward and lightly kissed her cheek. When I realized what I was doing, I quickly pulled away.

Instead of punching me, Rosalia looked like she wanted to hug me. "Um...we should finish getting you settled," I said awkwardly.
"Ok," Rosalia said, not meeting my eyes.

After Rosalia got settled, we sat in front of the fire.
"Joseph...Can we talk?" Rosalia asked, looking directly into the fire.
"Sure. So...What do you want to talk about?" I asked, although I was pretty sure I knew what she was talking about.
"Why'd you kiss me? Then, you pulled away like you were embarrassed about kissing me. So why'd you even do it?" Rosalia asked, hurt in her voice.
"Rosalia, I'm sorry. I really am. But, we've only known each other for a few hours, so I naturally acted that way. Sorry?" I said, making Rosalia laugh.

When she finished laughing, she shyly scooted closer to me, then hesitantly put her head on my shoulder. After a little bit, I put an arm around her, and she looked up, smiled, then quickly kissed me.

I knew once the kiss was over, that we were officially a couple.

Chapter 3
Rosalia

I slowly scooted closer to Joseph. Hesitantly, I lay my head on his shoulder. When he put his arm around me, I did the first thing that came to my mind - I quickly kissed him.
When the kiss was over, he looked down at me and smiled. I smiled happily back, but a thought washed the smile away just as quickly as it had come.

"Joseph, do you think Nadia will...you know, make this difficult?" I asked, thinking of her reaction to who my godly parent was.
"I'll talk to her; don't worry," Joseph said, kissing the top of my head lightly. But there was plenty of worry in his voice.
"Ok," I said, trying to keep worry out of my own voice.

After a while, Joseph helped me up and said, "Come on, Rose, it's time for dinner."
"Ok...can you sit with me?" I asked nervously.
"Sure."
"Thanks," I murmured, kissing him.
"No problem, Rose," he murmured back, kissing me again. "We should really go eat dinner, though."

I sighed. "Let's go."

Chapter 4: Dinner Surprises
Joseph

Have I ever told you how much I hate surprises? Especially the ones that involve your only sister betraying you.

I'll start at the beginning.

I was eating at the Aphrodite table with Rosalia. Everything was going fine until I kissed her cheek and Nadia saw us. She made her way over to us, looking like she just wanted to have a pleasant conversation with us.

"Hey. How's it going with the two lovebirds?" she asked, making both me and Rose blush.
"Uh, fine. So what do you need, Nadia?" I asked, my face still red.
"Joseph, I told you what I had to do to her when she came to this camp," Nadia said, jabbing her finger at Rose.

I felt my anger rise inside of me. She had orders from some goddess to take a daughter of Aphrodite - my girlfriend - to her.

"I'm not going to let this happen," I growled, grabbing Rosalia's hand.
"Joseph, I have to. If I keep Ga-the goddess waiting any longer, I don't know what will happen. You know how impatient a goddess can be," Nadia said. I barely heard her say a specific goddess' name, and a dreadful feeling built up inside of me. That goddess was not good.

"No, you're not taking her," I said, grabbing the hilt of my sword and standing up.
"Joseph...," Nadia said in a whiny voice. She looked at me with sadness in her eyes.

"No," I said firmly. "You're NOT taking her to Gaea."

The minute I said the earth goddess' name, hundreds of monsters filled the mess hall. Even the kids I once thought were campers were monsters. There were empousai, dracaenae, hellhounds, and tons of other monsters I didn't have a name for.

"Josseph," one of the dracaenae said. "Let usss have the girl. Sssshe has done nothing for you."
"Never," I said, slashing through the monster, making it explode in dust.

"Run Rose!" I shouted as I fought off as many monsters as possible.

Rosalia didn't need to be told twice. She jumped up from the table and ran to her cabin. My last sight of her before I concentrated on the battle was her closing the door quickly behind her.

Rosalia

I closed the door behind me and ran to my dresser. I grabbed my bag off the top and started to throw clothes in it.

'Joseph...Joseph, please be alright!' I thought desperately. His own sister had betrayed him and joined a goddess named Gaea. I had no idea who Gaea was, but just hearing her name sent shivers up my spine.

I looked around for any other things to pack. On a nightstand was a knife with a note. I ran over to it and read the note.

Rosalia,

Use this well, and keep it well hidden from the monsters. Keep it safe.

Aphrodite

I looked back at my new dagger. Engraved into the blade was Aphrodite's name in Ancient Greek: Ἀφροδίτη.

"Thanks Mom," I said, looking at her statue. The statue's head slowly nodded.

I put the backpack on my shoulder and ran outside to help Joseph. He was running from a hellhound, trying to get away from it. Joseph looked tired and worn out, so I quickly snuck up behind the monster and jabbed it, turning the hellhound to dust.

When he heard the hellhound yelp, Joseph collapsed. "Joseph..." I mumbled several times. I dropped my dagger and ran to his side. He was unconscious.

I ran my fingers through his soft, light brown hair. A single tear fell on his cheek. With a start, Joseph woke up.

"Rose? Why are you crying?" Joseph asked, pulling me into his arms.
"Wha-? You were just unconscious!" I said, hugging him tightly.

"Well, now that I'm awake, we need to go now. Come on," Joseph said. He tried to get up, but I didn't let him. "Rose, we-"
"I know, we need to go. But how do I know you're not an imposter?" I interrupted.
"This way," he said, kissing me. I wrapped my arms around his neck, and he held me tightly around the waist.

"We should go," Joseph murmured when we broke apart.
I walked back to where I dropped my knife. "Ok," I said, letting Joseph lead me into the woods. "But where are we going?"
"Camp Half-Blood," was all Joseph said.

Chapter 5: Camp Half-Blood
Rosalia

As Joseph led me through the woods, the sun began to set behind us.

"Look," he said, wrapping his arm around my waist and turning around so I could see the sunset.

All around the sunset was red that faded into orange. "It's beautiful," I murmured, resting my head on Joseph's chest and wrapping my arms around him.

"So are you," Joseph said, looking down at me. I looked up at him and smiled.
"I love you," I whispered, kissing him.
"And I love you, Rose," Joseph murmured.

Suddenly, we heard a loud growl from behind us. I groaned. What monster found us now?

I looked over to where the growl had come from. A group of telchines were staring right at us. The biggest one, their leader, walked forward.

"You will come with us," he said, baring his teeth. He had a face like a husky, but instead of hands, he had flippers like a seal.
"Over my dead body," Joseph said, stepping in front of me.

I looked at Joseph, begging him to let me fight. Stubbornly, he shook his head. I pleaded even more. "Fine," I heard him mutter.

I took out the dagger Aphrodite gave me and carefully concealed it, remembering her warning.
Slowly, I made my way to the telkhine. Grinning stupidly, the telkhine said, "There we go. Keep on coming. We only want to talk to you."

Yeah right, I thought just before I lunged at the monster.

Too late, the monster seemed to realize what I was doing. I stabbed him, making him turn to dust. Unfortunately, I was surrounded by a dozen other telkhines.

All at once, about five telkhines lunged at me. I would only have enough time to kill two of them before I died. Without thinking, I stabbed the two closest to me. I turned around and saw Joseph fighting several monsters at once. Immediately, I ran to his side and helped him.

After five minutes, we killed the telkhines. I looked at Joseph.
"We need to run," I said.
"Well, at least we're not very far from Half-Blood Hill. See that hill over there? That's where we're going. Race you there," Joseph said, taking off.
"Not fair!" I shouted, running after him.

When I finally caught up to Joseph, I tackled him to the ground.
"Now who's being fair?" he laughed.

I laughed with him, then let him up. We finished walking up Half-Blood Hill.
In the valley below us was our goal. Camp Half-Blood.

Chapter 6
Joseph

"Wow, that's a lot of cabins," Rosalia muttered. I was thinking the same thing. The last time I was here, there were only the major god and goddess' cabins. Now, there were more than a hundred.

I heard the thumping of hooves, and turned to see a centaur galloping to greet us.
Rosalia let out a little screech, then hid behind me. "Don't worry; it's just Chiron. He's ok," I murmured to Rose. Hesitantly, she came out from behind me.

"Joseph, welcome back," Chiron said as he came closer.
"Hello, Chiron. This is Rosalia Anderson, daughter of Aphrodite. We need your help," I said, shaking Chiron's hand.
"Of course. Let's discuss this later, though. Why don't you give Rosalia a tour of Camp Half-Blood?" Chiron said, galloping away.

I sighed. "Let's go. Everything's pretty much the same as Demigod Camp, except all the cabins. Demigod Camp was based off of Camp Half-Blood," I explained, grabbing Rosalia's hand.

Rose let me lead her through the camp for a while. We finished the tour at Half-Blood Lake. "This is my favorite place," I said.
"As far as I can tell, all your favorite places are near the water," Rosalia pointed out. I just shrugged.
"I like the water," I said, gazing out into the lake.
"I can tell," Rose said, lightly kissing me.

"Can we go to your cabin?" Rosalia said after a while.
"Sure," I said, leading her to me cabin. Unlike the last time, though, a girl about fifteen was sitting on one of the beds.

"Hey, I'm Joseph, and this is Rosalia," I said.
"I'm Alyssa Truman," the girl said shyly.

Chapter 7
Rosalia

I walked into the cabin with Joseph. A girl, who looked about fifteen was sitting on one of the beds.

"Hey, I'm Joseph, and this is Rosalia," Joseph said.
"I'm Alyssa Truman," she said shyly.

It was obvious she was the daughter of Poseidon. Her eyes said so - sea green, just like Joseph's. But for some reason, I was uneasy around her. Maybe because of Nadia?

Whatever the reason, I didn't think too much of it. Shortly after we introduced ourselves, Joseph took me back to the beach. We just sat in the sand, watching the waves in the fading sunlight.

"DINNER TIME!" a voice shouted. I looked at Joseph questioningly. He looked just as puzzled as I did. Apparently, a lot has changed since he was last here.

The food might have been amazing, but the bonfire was even better. It changed to the mood of the campers. If they were happy, it changed to a huge flame that was a bright color.

Chiron walked up next to the fire. "For announcements, I would like to say that we have two more campers. Joseph Bickingson, a returned-" Chiron didn't have the chance to finish his sentence. Cheers erupted, making the night seem less lonely. The flames shot up several feet into the air.
"Camper," Chiron said, continuing as if nothing had happened,"And a new camper, Rosalia Anderson, daughter of Aphrodite. Treat her well. Now, off to bed!"

I looked at Joseph. "See you tomorrow," I murmured, and kissed him. "Come on, we're going to my cabin," he said.

I was completely confused. "But, I thought I was supposed to sleep with my brothers and sisters," I said, letting the confusion leak into my voice.
"You can if you want to..." Joseph said, hurt in his voice.
"It's fine, I'll go with you," I said quickly.
Joseph smiled and said, "Come on then."

Joseph led me to his cabin, which was the closest to the sea. It was a perfect view.

"Goodnight Joseph," I said just before I climbed into a bed.
"Goodnight Rose," he murmured. "Goodnight Alyssa."
No answer.
"Alyssa?" Joseph asked, his voice close to panic.
Still no answer.
He got out of the bed he was in and immediately stepped on a piece of paper. "R-Rose," he whispered.
I got out of the bed and walked over to him. Joseph just held out the note.

'Joseph,
Don't look for me. You'll find me sooner or later, and I'd prefer that you find me later. I've gone looking for a symbol that is going to cause the gods to have a war with one another.

I'll miss you,
Alyssa'

"She's gone. First Nadia, now Alyssa," Joseph said, looking down. "I don't know if I'll be able to handle anymore."
I didn't know what to say, so I wrapped him up in a reassuring hug.
"We'll find her, Joseph," I promised.
"But how? She said not to look for her," he said.
"Yes, but she also said we'll find her sooner or later. Don't worry."
"Ok. Goodnight," he said, walking back to his bed.

As much as we hated it, Alyssa Truman was gone.

Chapter 8
Rosalia

I woke up the next morning feeling wonderful. Until I remembered what happened the night before.
I turned my head to look around for Joseph, and was surprised to see him sitting in a chair next to me. He had dark circles under his eyes, so I guessed he didn't sleep to well.

"Morning," I said, making him jump.
"Morning, I guess," Joseph said unemotionally.
"We'll find her, don't worry about it, Joseph," I said, trying to cheer him up. I knew he was thinking about Alyssa.
He just leaned forward, covering his face with his hands.
"I don't know. I think she's gone," he said, his voice cracking at the word 'gone'.
"Joseph..." I said softly, letting my sentence trail. I tried to pry his fingers away from his face, and only succeed when he gave up.

"Why don't we go have breakfast?" he suggested gloomily, standing up from the chair.
"I'll meet you there. Still have to get changed, you know," I said. I was still in my pajamas.
Joseph grinned mischievously. "Don't even think - JOSEPH!" I screeched. He picked me up and carried me to the mess hall. There was nothing I could do about it, so I pouted in his arms.
"You were saying?" he said, smiling at my expression.
"This is so not funny, Joseph," I grumbled.
"Yes it is. We're here," he said, setting me down and grabbing my hand tightly, so if I tried to run back to the cabin, he'd stop me.

We walked to the Poseidon table and ate breakfast. Joseph kept grinning at me, and I kept glaring back.
"Don't be like that, Rose," he said playfully.
I ignored him and continued eating. As soon as I finished, I stood up and said, "I'm going back to change." The only answer I got was a shrug, so I ran back to his cabin.

Joseph

I chuckled as I watched Rose run back to my cabin. She was mad at me, which wasn't good. But it was still funny.

I gave her a few minutes to change, then walked slowly back to the cabin, prepared for a twenty minute lecture.

"Hey," I said when I walked in. She was sitting on a bed, waiting for me.
"Don't do that again," she said, glaring at me.
"Do what?" I asked innocently.
Rose rolled her eyes and layed down. "You know exactly what, Joseph. Don't do that again."
I sighed in mock surrender. "Ok, fine."
Rose got up and hugged me tightly. "Thanks," she murmured in my ear. I hugged her back, lifting her up and turning in a quick circle. She laughed hysterically, and I couldn't help but laugh with her. When I set her down, she said, "Come on, we should probably go practice."

Rose had only walked a few paces when I ran up behind her and picked her back up. "We're going to the lake," I said, smiling mischievously.
"What? Joseph no! Put me DOWN!" Rose yelled.
"Oh, come on Rose. It's just the lake," I said, smiling at her.
She grumbled something about the lake, then cursed in Ancient Greek when she saw it.
"Joseph..." she whined, clinging to my neck.
"Oh, ok," I said, setting her down on the sand.
The minute her feet were on the sand, she ran back to the cabin. I ran after her, but she was fast when she wanted to be. Rose ran into the cabin and closed the door behind her, locking it.
"Rose!" I moaned. "Unlock the door!"
"Promise that you'll stop messing with me!" she shouted back.
"I promise! Now let me in!"
After a few minutes, Rose finally unlocked the door, and I tackled her to the ground, laughing. Although she was mad at me, Rose laughed with me.

"What? Joseph, no! Put me DOWN!" I shouted as Joseph picked me up. He was taking me to the lake, to dump me in it. I was positive.
"Oh, come on Rose. It's just the lake," he said, smiling at me.
I grumbled "Stupid lake," then cursed in Ancient Greek when I saw it.

After a few minutes, I finally unlocked the door, and Joseph tackled me to the ground, laughing. Instead of shouting at him, I just laughed.

"Now are you ready to go practice?" I asked once he'd got his laughter under control.
"Hmm. No. I just want to relax," Joseph said, pretending to think.
"Ok, but we'll practice tomorrow, right?" I asked, pulling him over to a bed.
"Yeah, I guess. I love you," he said, kissing me.
I leaned into the kiss, making him lay down.
"I love you, too," I murmured after the kiss.

After a few hours, a conch horn sounded, signaling lunch. I looked at Joseph, but he just looked up with a thoughtful expression.
"Come on, we should probably go get lunch before the campers start getting some ideas," Joseph said, pulling me up.
"Who would do that?" I asked, curiously.
"Oh, the Hermes cabin, and to narrow it down, Gabe," Joseph answered.
"Hmm. I don't really want to eat lunch, you know," I said, wrapping my arms around Joseph's neck.
"Really? Cause unless I'm mistaken, I just heard your stomach growl, and you are sooo not skipping lunch," Joseph said stubbornly.
"Am too."
"Nope."
"Why not?" I demanded, glaring at him.
"Because."
"Because isn't an answer."
"It is for me."
"Is not."
"Is too."
"Listen to us; we sound like little kids," I said, standing up.
"Hey! Where are you going?" Joseph asked.
"Lunch. Why aren't you coming?"
"I'm not hungry."

Finally, I just gave up and layed down next to Joseph. "You confuse me," I told him. "How?" Joseph mused, playing with my hair.
"I give up!" I said, giggling a little.
"Am I really that impossible?" Joseph asked.
"Yes."
"Good; I like to be impossible," Joseph said, making me laugh.
