The Heroes of Olympus The Lost Hero, written by me

HecateA posted on Aug 11, 2010 at 11:47AM
Hey guys!
I've been writting fanfiction to stand the excrutiatingly long wait after the cliff ending sample chapters, and I got at least two people who liked my "One Small Unhappy Family" story (go check it out).

This is how I'll do it:
1-Below is posted one or two chapters already.
2-When you guys read it, you can comment on it. I do not want to start conversations here too, if you disaprove the parentage or whatever, if you want to start a forum or write a review article.
3 -I will not comment. So anytime you see "HecateA" it means there's a new chapter up.
4 -If I get no views on 1 week I will asume that:
a) I have the gift of sight and am leaking the real story and Rick has kidnapped all of you but hasn't located me yet and will destroy my computer and send Clarisse to retrieve you.
b) Asteroids are hitting the houses of the nice people of the Heroes of Olympus spot and will move to Russia since I'm next
c) You guys aren't interested anymore. Either way, I'll stop publishing.
4- Please, please, please listen to the rules! If at anytime the spamming goes out of control (I doubt it with the anti-spam goddess among us) I will stop putting them on, which would suck for the people who aren't spamming.

Enjoy!

The Lost Hero

adventure, mystery, friendship, fantasy
Jason, Leo, Piper, Laurel (with identity), Chiron, Butch, Annabeth, Percy, Adahy Ross, Clare, Alessandra and Jessie Foster, Sienna Nova, Ajax, Ariadne Namakwa, a bunch of monsters,Nico Di Angelo, Thalia Grace, Rachel E. Dare, Mr D, campers

disclammer: I do not own any characters but Ariadne, Adahy Ross, the Fosters, Sienna Nova, Ajax and thecabin leaders for the minor demigods

Hello!
Before you start reading, I'd like to make clarifications.
1. I am totally ignoring the cover, the descriptions on the back and there will be no extraordinary mention to the great prophecy.
2. I haven't read the book like the rest of you (sigh) so I'm going on guesses for parents and such
3. Chapter 1 isn't that great, so chapter 2 is there as well
4. This week its rated YC, but later on there will be violence (what would Percy J be without swords?) but no adults theme or swearing.
5.Enjoy :)

Leo gets flying-chariot sick
I didn’t understand what was happening, which I hated.
-Guys, let’s go before they get the doors open! The girl, Annabeth, rushed.
-What’s with the flying horses? Jason asked.
-I told you we’ll explain at camp! Now hurry! Butch said.
-How can that thing be solid? Jason asked.
-It is, the chariot is well built, the bolt on the back is a little insecure but we should be okay for another 12 days. Leo said. I turned at him.
-How do you know that? I asked. Leo frowned and shrugged. He ran over to join Annabeth in the chariot.
-Come on. I told Jason. I took his hand, but he wouldn’t budge.
-You are coming. I said. From there he followed me.
-It was nice of Apollo to lend us the chariot. Butch commented.
-Apollo didn’t have a choice. Hold on tight, it’ll be ruff. Annabeth said. I grabbed on the side of the chariot. The fact there was no back wall on it didn’t strike courage in my heart, but I had no choice.
-YAH! Annabeth said. The four horses galloped down the skywalk, like a runway and took off.
The wind was blowing my hair everywhere, and the moment the skywalk was out of sight, Leo threw up over the side.
-You okay? Butch yelled over the howling wind. Leo nodded, looking clammy.
I lost track for how long he flew. I had one hand on the railing and one hand in Leo’s. I trusted this guy in heights now, whether he was my boyfriend or not.
It wasn’t a comfortable ride. With the chilling wind, the awkward silence, throwing up every 5 minutes and the fact we were thousands of feet above the ground… I’d been on better buses then this.
Night was falling when we finally landed. We were on a tall hill. The first thing I noticed was, there was no snow.
-Butch, we’re in December, why is there no snow? Jason asked.
-Mr D doesn’t like snow anymore. Not since somebody nailed him with a snowball. Besides, if Percy were to come back, he’s come by the sea, which would suck if it was freezed over. He said.
When Butch lit a match I saw clearer what we were surrounded by. Besides us was this enormous pine tree. It was greener then anything I’d ever seen and a pile of golden wool was on one of its branches. A four story house with an eagle wind pointer, a wrap-around porch and what looked like a blue paintjob was standing tall. There was a beach covering the horizon, a field full of big and juicy-looking strawberries and two rectangles made of cabins in another end. I couldn’t make them out except for one that glowed silver. A few other buildings were here and there, but nothing I could see. Waves of a beach were slamming themselves on a beach. Except these waves were taller then me and they kept coming and coming. Leo jumped over the edge of the chariot and barfed one final time.
-You don’t do Pegasus. Butch told him.
-I guess I don’t. Leo said.
-Common. The sooner I get back to the cabin, the better. Annabeth grumbled. We filed out of the chariot. I noticed Annabeth was crying. Tears were trickling down her cheeks as she pulled away from Butch, Jason, Leo and I and walked towards the house.
-She really doesn’t like us. Jason said.
-She expected to find Percy so bad. But she’s a good person. Butch assured. We left it at that and went for the blue house.
Lightened by the industrial lighting on the porch was a man with a brown beard and long hair. His eyes were brown and old. His legs were covered by a blanket and he was standing on a mechanical wheelchair.
-Hello Butch. And Annabeth. The man said. Annabeth said hi and went jogging towards the cabins, hiding her face.
-What..? The man started.
-He wasn’t there. Butch finished.
-Oh. I though he might still be with the Pegasus. Chiron said. He looked disappointed, like we weren’t good enough. Who was this Percy guy? Why was he so important?
-You must be Piper Ross. And Leo Valdez. And Jason! Good to see at least you made it. He told us.
-Made it from what? Jason said.
-The quest of course! We were scared that nobody would have any idea where Percy and
-Jason, what’s my name?
-I don’t know. I’m really sorry, I just… don’t. The man frowned.
-I’m Chiron. Jason, you know me since you’re twelve. The look on Jason’s face inspired no confidence. I turned to Butch and Chiron.
-We’re at your camp-place now, there’s no monsters, you owe us an explanation. I told Butch.
-You’re right. But I’ve got to get back to my cabin. Indigo, Saffy and Tory’ll want to know. Before we could say anything, he handed Leo the match (not burned out yet), which is not a great idea, and jogged off.
-Well, I’m glad you three got to camp safely. Chiron said.
-Don’t change subjects. We want to know what’s going on. And can’t we go inside? Leo asked.
-I’m afraid not. It’s safer outside then in there” Chiron said. For some reason, the tsunami-material waves and lightning all around us didn’t convince me, but something in Chiron’s eyes told me he was being truthful.
-So yes. I’ll explain…

Chapter 4
JASON
I dream of I don’t remember

I got tackle-hugged by a girl I didn’t know as soon as I stepped in the cabin Chiron had shown me. I noticed the temperature change, it had gotten colder, but I was strangely comfortable.
-Jason, Jason, I knew you’d come back, I told them you weren’t dead!
-Umm, who are you? I asked. She let go, took a step-back and looked at me frowning.
-I’m Laurel. Laurel White, your sister. Duh. She had blond hair that nearly touched the floor and icy blue eyes and thin eyebrows, like me. She was about 13 and she was wearing a helmet and breastplate, a sword hanging at her side. I frowned.
-Laurel, Chiron spoke up from behind me, Jason has lost a pretty big content of his memory recently.
-You… You don’t know who I am? Mum, do you remember Mum? I shook my head. Laurel frowned.
-Do you remember..?
-Laurel, that’s your name right?
-Of course it’s my name! And you’re my big brother!
-Laurel, look, I didn’t even remember my name. Laurel scruted my face as if looking for the merest sign of lying.
-You don’t remember me, Mum, you probably don’t remember who your dad is, don’t you?
-Boreas.
-You do remember!
-No he told me. I said pointing towards Chiron.
-Laurel, Jason’s had a… ruff day and a ruff chariot ride back.
-You took the flying chariot? She snickered. Sorry, go on Chiron.
-The best for him is if he went to sleep. Maybe he’ll remember something in the morning. Good night, both of you.
-Good night. Laurel said. Chiron left and closed the door. I looked around the cabin. It was nice. The walls alternated between purple and white. There were 3 bunk beds. Two of them looked like they’d been slept in. They had suitcases tucked underneath them and armour pieces on them. The cabin was lighted from glowing conch shells hanging on the walls, like lanterns. There was a mural on one wall, it seemed like the story was progressing from picture to picture. I looked at it longer and saw it was the story of Jason and the Argonauts. Jason… Could he be my namesake?
The roof of the cabin was the most interesting. It was as high as the roof of the big house except nobody could have seen it from outside. A purple needle was hanging there and was pointing to what I determined was north. Except when I looked at the inscriptions there I read more then the cardinal points.
North, South, East, West, were there, but some other inscriptions were there. Olympus, Underworld, Poseidon’s kingdom, Hyperborea, Dad’s place, Athens.
-You can read it can’t you? Laurel asked.
-The inscriptions? Of course, I can read.
-Look again. I starred back up at the ceiling. The inscriptions were in Ancient Greek.
-You can read it, which proves that you’ve been at camp Half-Blood before! Laurel said with satisfaction. I looked back up.
-How does it work? I asked pointing at the compass.
-You don’t remember? It’s a compass. Check this out. Laurel skipped to the other side of the room and pressed her had on a tiny crack on the back wall. The wall opened a little to reveal what looked like the handle of a garden hose, except bronze and bigger. Laurel turned it. The inscriptions turned until “Dad’s place” was pointing north. Woe, how did I know where North was?
The needle turned and spun until it settled on pointing north-east.
-It’s like a giant compass, except when the Hephaestus cabin were installing it, they forgot we always know where North is, so they made the compass to find any of the places up there.
-That’s cool. I said.
-Umm hum. And nobody knows how to use it but you and me. She said. She grabbed a hook from the wall and pulled until the wall was back blocking the handle.
-So Chiron gave you the crash-course?
-Yes. I’m not sure how much I understood. I said.
It was true! On the porch of the big house Chiron had told Piper, Leo and me that we were all demigods, with the wind howling, lightning going on around us and waves that could’ve been mistaken for a tsunami crashing on the beach. We could barely hear him. The Annabeth girl had run off to her cabin nearly as soon as we got here, her eyes damp, and Butch had stayed with us.
Of course they were all disappointed that the Percy Jackson kid wasn’t with us. But Chiron had told us all about demigods and western civilisation. I think I got the most of it.
Laurel yawned.
-I’m going to bed. Goodnight she said. She took off her breastplate and I realised she was in pyjamas.
-‘night. I said.
-That’s your bunk right there, by the window.
-Okay. But Laurel was already sleeping. I pulled the blankets over her, kicked off my sneakers and plopped in the bed.

In my dream, three people were sitting in a cold cell. One was a girl with auburn hair, lying face down on the ground, her hands handcuffed behind her back, her hairline sticky with blood. The youngest, about 17, was wearing a straitjacket. The other was trying to get it off of him. I couldn’t see either of their faces.
-It’s not use boy, I can’t take it off.
-Keep trying. I need to get you back to camp; you’re the only one who knows who it is.
-I don’t know as I’ve told you before. The man said frowning.
-You do, deep down. Mr D can unlock it, I just know he can!
-Going somewhere? A voice said from the entrance.

I woke up in cold sweat. The cabin was dark and I heard Laurel moan something like “Further, further”. When I tried to remember my dream I couldn’t. What was it about? Why had it scared me so much? And that’s how Laurel found me when she woke up. Sitting strait, frowning, starring at the back wall.

Hi again!
Sorry, if I want to have this mostly posted before the book comes out I need to post a little faster then 1 a week.
Thanks for th comment Rick! If you want to put your story on fanpop there are two spots I suggest, writting or creative outlet.
Anyways, here I go!

C (sword fighting)
adventure, mystery, friendship, fantasy
Jason, Leo, Piper, Laurel (with identity), Chiron, Butch, Annabeth, the cabin leaders OC, Rachel, Tyson, Lise

Leo loves his cabin. Tools, tools, everywhere! Except he dreams of a weird girl. Who could she be?
She's not Lise, or any other girl in his cabin. This is just puzzling him more then he likes.
lonely. 2 things that Piper doesn't like.

Leo
The girl with black eyes
That night I had a weird dream. I dreamt about a girl with thin brown hair, huge black eyes and a permanent scowl. She was athletic looking and very pretty. She was sitting on one of the bunks looking panicked.
-What’s wrong? What’s your name? I kept asking. She just shook her hair and grasped her sword. Then she said something.
-It’s her.
That’s when I woke up.
As I looked around the cabin I wondered who the girl was.
It was a giant workshop, with Ancient Greek forges and tools along with more modern ones. The bunks were pushed to the sides to make room for as much tools and worktables as humanly possible. There were piles of weapons near the door and others hanging from the ceiling (swords dangling over your head: perfectly safe) and on the walls.
The best thing was: nobody panicked when I picked up a handsaw. After the whole semester in workshop with an absence of sharp tools (so all the tools I needed), due to 7 past mutilations and 3 near fatal accidents, at the Wilderness school, it was great to have them. It was like I was back at my mom’s. She didn’t care if I was working with a handsaw in the small shop we have in the garage. If I had a tool in my hand, I was in my bubble. I would not talk to you, I would not fool around and I would not do some stupid dangerous thing. I got the feeling the other kids in here were practically the same.
Then I thought about my mom. Did she know I was here? Did she have a clue why I wasn’t at the Wilderness school? Had they called her yet?
I didn’t think about it too long. I’d seen a guy make a wicked cool sword last night. There was nobody up yet, and I knew these guys slept threw loud noises (proof: they slept threw the storm last night), so I wouldn’t wake anybody up.
I found the tools and the material and I started working.
It was about 6 in the morning. At 6:30, when I was putting the finishing touches on the sword, a guy woke up. It was that Jake Masson guy, the one in charge.
-Leo, what are you doing!
-Making a sword.
-But nobody showed you how to handle the tools yet!
-I was watching last night dude, what’s the big deal?
-These things are sharp and dangerous to handle. Jake said.
-Okay, so new kid handling sharp objects: safety hazard, but the swords hanging from the ceilings are okay? I’ve already handled similar tools anyways. Jake relaxed.
-We run out of storage room for our weapons, he said. Besides, we take them all to the armoury once a month.
-Why only once a month?
-None of us want to do it. Takes away our time of the forges too. Where’d you learn to handle tools like that?
-My mom, she worked at construction sites, she has a workshop set up in the garage. She’s a nut about tool collecting; she has some ancient Greek ones.
I realised as I said it that’s probably how she met my dad, or why they liked each other anyways.
-Same here. Show me that sword. I picked it up and showed it to him. He weighed it and slashed the air with it before handing it back.
-Really nice, well balanced. Hmm… I wonder…
-What do you wonder?
-I wonder what you could do at a real forge.
-There’s abetter one!
-Heck yah! You haven’t seen a real Greek forge until you’ve been to out forge. This one is just for early risers or late sleepers. I’ll show you.
Jake took me, as excited as a child on Christmas morning, to the forges. I stayed there all morning, until Piper came to find me.
-Leo? A girl called.
-Yeah? I answered stretching my neck to see who it was.
-It’s me, Piper.
-Piper! I dropped my project, a shield, and ran to the door. She looked tired, like she hadn’t slept at all, and lonely.
-Sup? She asked.
-Not much, you seen Jason?
-No. I don’t know in which cabin he is. I still don’t know what’s wrong with him. He was there since September, wasn’t he? I frowned.
-I’m pretty sure. How’s your cabin?
-Gloomy. Stupid death, Goth gloomy. She muttered.
-Queen of the Underworld Lili, she’s bound to be gloomy.
If you’re wondering why I call Piper “Lili”, her dad started it. He dropped her off at Wilderness and he kept calling her Lili, its sort-of teasing her I guess.
-She’s goddess of spring! Flowers, sun, rain, baseball! Fall is when everything dies, spring is like… re-birth.
-Whatever. Anybody else in your cabin?
-No. There’s nobody. Chiron said some kid named Rick got killed last week.
-Oh. Reassuring. Good thing your friend can make swords for you, right?
-You can make swords?
-Duh! Come see! I dragged her to the back of the forges and showed her the spear I’d made.
-Nice. She said picking them up one at a time, examining the blades.
-Leo? Someone said poking in the forge. It was one of my step-sisters, a tanned blond girl from California wearing a used coat.
-Jake says its time to head back. Breakfast in ten.
-Sure Lise. You going to be okay on your own?
-Probably. Maybe. Possibly. Piper said.
-Why don’t you follow us. Hey Lise, Piper’s the only kid in her cabin and she’s new, can she tag along with us?
-Aphrodite?
-No.
-Then probably. What cabin you from Piper?
-Persephone.
-Oh. Sorry, you’ve gotta stay with either Demeter or Hades.
-Sorry Lili. I’ll see you later, key? I said.
-Sure. Piper said. As we got to the door there was another girl besides Lise. She had hair the color of dirt and eyes the color of fields. She was about 17 and wearing one of those orange “camp Half-Blood” shirts. I wondered why orange. Wasn’t great for camouflage.
-Hi, you must be Piper Ross. I’m Katie, Katie Gardner from Demeter. Look, we realise you’re alone in your cabin, so if you want to tag along with us today, that’s cool. Unless you want to hang with Nico Di Angelo…
-Hi. Who’s Nico Di Angelo?
-Son of Hades.
-Oh. I guess I’ll tag along with you. Piper said.
-Great! Katie said like Piper’d just made her day.
-See yah Lili.
-By Le. Piper said before following Katie back to a cabin.
-She your girlfriend? Lise asked.
-No! Ewe, not Piper. She’s my friend Jason’s girlfriend.
-Jason… White? From Boreas? Lise said lifting an eyebrow.
-Yah.
-He’s back! Lise said excited.
-What do you mean he’s back? He got here yesterday.
-No, I mean… He left to go at some boarding school this year; he’s been gone on the quest since two weeks ago! We thought that he’d…
-Died?
-No. Vanished. Like Percy.
-Can you tell me who this Percy Jackson kid is? I asked Lise as we walked towards the cabin.
On the walk back and during breakfast, Lise told me stories of a second titan god war, of a prophecy, a broken oath, and of Percy Jackson.
The more I heard of this guy, the more and more I realised how bad it was that he was missing. If something could hurt a guy like that, what chance did the rest of us stand?

Jason
I get a crash-course on who I am
The next day was the most confusing in my life. Or second… You decide.
I followed Laurel to the dinning pavilion in the morning. She told me how to sacrifice some food to Boreas and at which table to sit. I searched the place for Piper and Leo. Leo was talking to some tanned blond girl sitting next to him and Piper was alone. I met her eyes and she smiled weakly before looking back at her scrambled eggs.
I saw Butch sitting with 2 brunette girls that looked identical, which I assumed must be Saffy and Indigo and a guy, probably Tory. I saw how Tory and him looked alike. It was like a smaller Butch with no tattoo. The girls were more graceful in a way. They looked like ballerinas.
Annabeth was sitting at the Athena table. She looked clammy, her hair was unbrushed and her eyes were puffy and sad. I’d only seen her once, but I got the feeling it wasn’t natural for her to be that way. Her siblings seemed uncomfortable. Besides her was sitting a girl that seemed completely out of place. She had frizzy red hair a T-shirt from some art museum in Canada and freckles on her nose. She obviously wasn’t a child of Athena. She was talking to Annabeth.
There were other tables that had nearly nobody. One was completely empty. 3 of them had only one kid. Piper was at one, an olive skinned kid with black eyes on another, and one with a huge guy with brown hair, hairy arms, nails the sized of chips that would’ve given any stylist a heart attack and one calf-brown eye in the middle of his forehead. Yup, you heard me. One brown eye. His eye was as puffy as Annabeth’s and he wasn’t eating.
-Is that a Cyclops? I asked Laurel.
-Tyson, son of Poseidon. Duh. He came back from undersea to help with the searching effort. He’s real upset, Percy was his favourite brother. He wanted to go yesterday, to find Percy, but the chariot wouldn’t support him alone. Laurel went on and told me more about this Percy kid, she was more of a chatterbox then Leo. He seemed like a nice guy. Important and powerful guy too. Finally a pudgy man in a tiger striped shirt with near-purple hair stood up.
-Hello kidlets. Well another day at this insufferable camp. We have two new pests-I mean campers. Pierette Ronald and Liam Vadde. Chiron leaned in to whisper something.
-Euhm, Piper Ross and Leo Valdez. And returning camper Justin –Jason White. Now go on with your little whatever-you-do. He said before trooping off to the Big House.
-Nice guy. I muttered.
-That’s M. D. You don’t want him on your bad side.
-Why not? He doesn’t look dangerous.
-He’d Dionysus. Laurel whispered.
-Dio-who-sus?
-You know. When Mum told us the myths, Libber. The Roman god Libber.
-Oh, okay. I said. Why did I remember nothing but the myths? It seemed odd.
-Do you remember how to sword fight? Laurel asked.
-Yes.
-Good! ‘Cause me and Ja’ been practising, and I’m pretty sure I can beat you.
-We’ll see about that. I said.
-Now? I can get my sword and meet you in the sword arena.
-Sure. I said feeling mine in my pocket.
-Cool! And Laurel dashed off, running really fast. Most of the kids were leaving. I didn’t want to stay alone so I got up.
-Jason! I heard someone say from behind. I turned around.
The girl was supper buff. Her hair was brown and pulled back in a bandana. She was wearing red armour and a sword was hanging at her side, a boar shaped helmet under her arm.
-I heard you were back.
-Ah. Umm, who are..? She interrupted me.
-Look, do you know where Jackson is? You were with him when he disappeared.
-I’m sorry, I don’t know. She looked at me strictly.
-Look, Annabeth, she thinks it’s her fault for some reason. Either Katie, Rachel, me or anybody else can talk sense into her, which for an Athenian sucks. Only way to get her back to her usual is to find Jackson. He’s been missing for a week. A week! If you remember anything, just tell me.
-And you would be?
-You don’t remember me? I haven’t pounded you enough?
-No, its not that, I just have no memory of anything past yesterday.
-Oh. I’m Clarisse. Daughter of Ares.
Who was Ares again? God of buff people maybe?
-Sure. Um, why do you think I was with him when he disappeared?
-Because, you were on the same quest as him. Clarisse said, like it was the most obvious thing.
-Can you please explain? I asked. Clarisse scanned my face.
-This better not be a trick, punk. She said.
-No, I honestly don’t remember and nobody will tell me anything! I said frustrated.
-Fine. You, Percy and a girl named Ariadne –Ria- Namakwa, were on a secret quest for Chiron. A week into it we got a distress message. We don’t know what happened. A week later, so two days ago, we get a message from an adult demigod that lives in Nevada saying she found you, uncouncient at her doorstep. The camp arranged so that she got you on the bus somehow and put mist on everyone to make them forget you weren’t at Wilderness for the past two weeks. I’m not sure what she did to Hedge to make him forget you, but that’s all I know.
-Which demigod?
-Clare Foster. Daughter of Hermes I think. Now if you excuse me, I have things to do other then giving you a crash-course on who you are. Clarisse said. She stalked off. I was about to go find the arena, but I got ambushed again. This time from an Asian boy with shaggy black hair and crystal blue eyes.
-Yo, Jason! He said with a friendly punch in my arm.
-Umm, hi.
-I was scared I’d never see you again! He said smiling. I saw that one of his front teeth was badly chipped.
-Sorry but, who are you? I asked. His smile faded.
-I’m J, well, Ajax. Ajax Nguyen. Remember? Your annoying cousin that’s been taking care of your sister for the past school semester?
-You mean Laurel?
-No Nicole.
-I have a sister named Nicole? I said discouraged.
-No, I’m messing with you, of course Laurel. How can you not remember me, I’m your favourite cousin! Along with Richie, Marla, Jo and Becca of course. And probably Gus and Trevor.
-I know none of the people you just stated. I don’t remember anything past yesterday, and that includes Richie, Marla and whoever. I said.
-That sucks. Why? He asked.
-I don’t know.
-I’m guessing you don’t know where Percy Jackson is either then?
-No idea. Sorry. Now sorry, but I’ve got to go, Laurel’s waiting for me at the arena. I said. I set off.
-You know, she’s gotten pretty good. Ajax said following me.
-Okay. I said.
-Nothing compared to you of course, but the girl can try. Ajax said.
-Umm… I guess. Ajax steered me into the arena. It was huge! Laurel was there, wearing full armour, her blond hair still down, and holding a bronze sword and a circular shield.
-What took you so long? She asked, standing in front of me now. Man she could run fast.
-Sorry that Clarisse girl wanted to talk to me.
-What did you do?
-Nothing. I said.
-Okay. Ready?
-What? I don’t even have armour on! I protested.
-Yes you do. Laurel said looking at me weird. Don’t tell me you don’t remember about that! Laurel said.
-Laurel, I didn’t remember my name. I protested. Laurel just came towards me, and put the hoody on my head. Instantly I was wearing black armour, with purple cartoonish wind drawings on it.
-Cool! I said.
-I can’t believe you can’t remember this; dad gave it to you on your twelfth birthday.
-Oh. I said. How did I not remember something as cool as this? Seriously!
-You’ve got armour and a sword, common! Laurel urged. With that she lunged forward. I dodged but she saw it coming and stroke again, hitting my shoulder. I hit her sword hand and with a “CLANG” it flew out of her hands, and she collapsed.
-Laurel you okay? I asked taking off my helmet. Laurel? Laurel!
Laurel was shaking uncontrollably, her armour rattling. I fell to my knees at her sides and pulled off her helmet. Her eyes were rolled back, all you could see was white. Her mouth was slightly open and her face was drained of color.
-Laurel! Ajax said leaping out of the stands, jumping higher then any human and touching down softly besides me. I couldn’t process how cool that was. My little sister was… I don’t know what it was, but something clicked in my brain.
-Ajax! Go get the oracle, and Chiron! I said.
-The… Of Delphi?
-Yes, and Chiron, quick! Ajax dashed off and left me with Laurel. She was shaking uncontrollably and making a weird song. You know when you have ear phones plugged in your computer and there is no sound? Like that. She started to hit herself, so I pinned her to the ground.
-Laurel, Laurel, snap out of it! Laurel, common Laurel! I said trying to speak with her. Ajax landed next to me, the girl I’d seen talking to Annabeth clutching his arm. She had a bow and arrow on her back.
-What happened? She asked looking at Laurel.
-I knocked the sword out of her hands and she just collapsed, I barely touched her! I said getting to my feet. Rachel looked at Laurel for 5 seconds before pinning her again.
- Miloún lógia kleido̱ména, adelfí̱ na dei, Milí̱soun ti eínai gia ti̱ gló̱ssa sas, Manteío to̱n Delfó̱n epaineí! She said. I understood her perfectly, even if she was speaking Greek. She said:
Speak locked words, sister in seeing
Speak what's on your tongue
Oracle of Delphi commends!
At that moment, the weird static sound stopped, Laurel relaxed and the girl’s eyes glowed green. She spoke in a weird voice, like there were echoes of her voice.

-The one that recalls nothing shall lead to find what is lost
The one that knows all shall lead the way
You will meet the goddess that turns the earth
You will defy the warriors at birth
3 cousins of the lost and one are needed on that day
And it will be found, with one major coast

She nearly fell but caught herself; her eyes weren’t glowing anymore. She shook her head and blinked a few times. She looked at Laurel. Chiron went to kneel by Laurel, but Rachel lifted a finger. About 3 seconds later Laurel coughed out green smoke.
-Now Chiron. She said. Chiron kneeled a Laurel and started working on her, his medical pouch opened.
-What was that? I asked.
-A prophecy. That’s what the oracle of Delphi is for. I’m Rachel by the way.
-Jason. Umm, could you elaborate on that? I asked. Rachel glared at me. I realised just how piercing her eyes were.
-I am the oracle of Delphi. Whenever the spirit of Delphi has something to say, it uses me to connect it to the mortal world.
-Okay, what happened to my sister? What did you do to her?
-I don’t know why but this once, the spirit tried to use your sister as a bridge instead of me.
-Why couldn’t find you? Ajax said. We starred at him.
-Just trying to break the climax. He said.
-The spell I spoke was to direct the spirit to the right person, in this case me. Usually we oracles prefer to get the Children of Hecate doing it. It works better with me, but magic isn’t my thing. But in this case it was an emergency.
-Why an emergency? I asked.
-Her soul wasn’t holding up. The spirit was too much for her, it would’ve shattered her soul to pieces. My heart sank.
-Oh.
-Anyways, good luck figuring what the prophecy means. Rachel said.
-Wait, what?
-It’s your prophecy Jason. It applies to you; it’s about your quest. Probably why your sister got it, you didn’t come to see me at the right time, so it got into the person nearest you. She turned and talked to Chiron on how to help Laurel recover.
-Ajax, Jason, go get all the other cabin counsellors in meeting right now. We have a quest to discuss and I think as soon as possible would be a good thing. Chiron said looking up from Laurel.
-You got it Chiron. Common Jason, Laurel’s in good hands. I still didn’t want to leave Laurel. She hadn’t twitched, moved, mumbled or anything.
-Dude, common, we’re of no use here.
-I guess. I looked were Ajax had been and he wasn’t there anymore. He was in mid-air above.
-Whoa!
-What? You didn’t expect me to walk, did you? Common!
I remembered the flying/thing yesterday. If I could just do that again. Immediately the wind picked up, and on a hunch I jumped, except instead of hitting the ground, the moving air supported me, like an invisible hover board. At my commands I went higher until I was up with Ajax.

And I was loving it!

I get a job
The air hockey tables had been pushed together and there were about 25 other demigods (but one satyr) sitting around it, including Chiron. Pretty much the oldest or most experienced camper of each cabin. And me, which was here by default of an older or more experienced camper.
-Everybody, quiet. Chiron said tapping his hoof to the ground. Dead silence.
-Thank you. We have a problem. You all know about the… disappearances. Well one quest member came back. Jason White. The problem is, he lost all memory of what happened. But recently… Wait, I’ll let Rachel explain this. Rachel.
The girl who must’ve been Rachel stood up. She had reddish brown hair, piercing green eyes and freckles all over her face. For some mysterious reason she had holes in her jeans and paint covered them as well as her “Art is everywhere” tank top.
-The spirit of Delphi had a prophecy for Jason. He didn’t come to see me fast enough, so the spirit tried to use another person as a bridge: Laurel White. I got there just in time to give the spirit an exit way before the spirit crushed her soul. Anyways, from what I get, the prophecy is about a quest Jason needs to take. Rachel said.
-Why didn’t you call me Rache? A guy with caramel hair and sinister black eyes said.
-Sorry Jonathan, it was an emergency.
-My one shot at a speaking spell. He muttered. There was an awkward silent.
-So… What we supposed to do about it? An elfish boy asked.
-A quest, genius. A boy who could’ve been his taller twin said. The other made a face. Tweedle-dee and tweedle-dum, I say.
-Okay, the prophecy is obviously about Percy. Nico Di Angelo said. I’d met him while hanging out with the Demeter kids (do you realise they’re my aunts and uncles? That’s just weird, most of them are either my age or younger!). Let’s just say it didn’t go well…
-And then it says “the one who recalls nothing shall lead the way”, I think that means Jason. A buff brunette girl wearing red armour said.
-Clarisse is correct. Jason, will you lead this quest? Chiron said.
-What, but… me? Jason asked from besides me.
-Of course! Jake Masson said.
-You’re mentioned in the prophecy, if its not you the quest will fail, there’s history. Katie said from my other side.
-I, but…
-Common Jason, you were with Percy last, who better? Butch asked.
-Annabeth, Butch, anybody! Jason exclaimed. Look, I don’t know anything about this world, I don’t know what Percy looks like, and I’d die in the first 30 seconds!
-Wrong. Dude, you know this. It’s locked somewhere in your head. An Asian boy with a chipped tooth said.
-At the Canyon, when you sensed something wrong, you knew to flip that coin. If it’s that important it will come back to you. I said. He starred me in the eyes.
-I’ll go if you come. It said “plus 1” at some point. Jason said. We looked at Chiron.
-I think Piper’d have to go anyways. Di Angelo said coldly.
-And why would that be? I asked, as coldly as him.
-Because the full line was “3 cousins plus one”. Percy’s 3 cousins. The two most powerful being me and Thalia. The third being a child of Demeter, or you since you’re my step sister. Di Angelo said.
-Demeter cabin isn’t going. Katie said. At least not if you’re missing a cousin. Katie said.
-I’ll go with Jason. I said.
-And it’s not like Thalia’s going... A girl with a butt-chinn, one eye purple and swollen up and missing one ear said. I figured she was a daughter of Janus, weird face.
-Oh no? Somebody said. We looked at the doorframe. A girl with short spiky hair, electric blue eyes and a splash of freckles on her nose came in. She was wearing jeans, a “Death to Barbie” t-shirt, sneakers and a weird crown in her hair was standing at the door.
-Thalia! A few people said. Annabeth got up to hug her. The satyr sitting besides her followed her shyly. He held out his hand but Thalia hug him.
-Artemis gave me a break if my help was needed. Is it?
-We were discussing that. Welcome back. Chiron said. He filled Thalia in as Katie whispered in my ear:
-She’s the Daughter of Zeus; she joined the hunters of Artemis a few years ago so she wouldn’t age. You know the prophecy we told you about this morning.
I thanked her for the memo.
-I’ll go. Thalia said.
-Great! Jason, Nico, Piper and Thalia. We are missing one. Everybody turned to Annabeth.
-Annabeth? Someone asked. A tear twinkled in the corner of her eye and she looked like a personal battle was raging inside of her. If she wanted to see her boyfriend so bad, why didn’t she just come?
-I’m fighting like drakon dung. I’ll be useless. She said slowly. Tyson? She asked. I looked over at the Cyclops.
-Boss wants me back at forge tomorrow. Can’t go. He said shaking his head.
-Goat-boy? The satyr, Grover Underwood, shook his head.
-Too much work. Skittles? He asked. Everybody looked at Butch. Skittles seemed like a weird nickname.
-The choice should be Jason’s. He’s leading this one. Butch said. Everybody turned at Jason; he tensed up and looked at me.
-Leo? Can Leo come? He asked.
-Actually, it’d be better to send a more experienced camper. Piper needs to go so it’s fine, but Leo’s still new, he hasn’t learnt to fight yet. At least you have. Jake said.
-But you guys said the choice was Jason’s. He fought with Leo once. I said.
-It’s fine Piper. He whispered to me. Butch, you want to come? Butch glanced at Annabeth.
-You sure you don’t want to go? She nodded, thought tears were streaming down her cheeks.
-I’ll go. Butch said.
-We’re missing a quest member. The shorter elf-boy said.
-What?
-No, Connor’s right this once. It said “the one that knows all shall lead the way”. Well that could refer to an oracle, right?
-And the only oracle we got is Rachel. The boy called Jonathan said. Rachel turned pale.
-What? But… I… I’m not a half-blood!
-You’re an oracle, which is what counts. A girl said. It was weird; her form seemed to be transparent in some spots, as if she weren’t there.
-She’s a daughter of Morpheus, the god of dreams. Katie whispered.
-Common Rache, you’re getting good at archery. A boy said.
-Yes Will, you guys’ natural ability must be rubbing off. Katie said.
-Rachel, remember in the labyrinth, you could see the right way? It could be the same this time. Annabeth said. She looked at Rachel in the eyes.
-Okay. I guess. Just, don’t expect me to be too much of a warrior. She warned.
-You’ll do fine Rache. The daughter of Janus said.
-Okay, we’ve got everybody. Nico said. At that moment Annabeth got up and jogged out of the room hiding her face.
-What about the lines?
-We’ll meet at least one goddess. “That makes the world turn”, whoever that is.
-And “warriors at birth”. What does that mean? Someone asked.
-Where are Athena’s kids when you need ‘em? The daughter of Janus said. Everybody looked at her weird.
-Did I miss something? Sorry, daydreaming. She blushed.
-Whatever Sissy. Warriors. Could that mean the hunters?
-You aren’t a hunter at birth, you become one. Thalia said.
-Demigods are warriors. Katie said.
-Only time will tell. Jason, Piper, Nico, Thalia, Rachel and Butch will leave tomorrow at dawn for their quest to find Percy Jackson and Ariadne Namakwa. Chiron said.

I’m the new Santa Claus
Leo

-Honest Leo, we asked for you to come! Piper said.
-Umm, hum. I said, not looking up from my birdhouse. I nailed two pieces together. As soon as I stopped they went at it again.
-They said you were too new, and Piper didn’t have a super-huge choice and neither did I. Jason said.
-Guys, I don’t really mind.
-You don’t?
-Nah. Sure it would’ve been nice to tag along with you guys, but I can’t fight. Like at the canyon, I was useless!
-You got hurt early! It’s not your fault. Piper said. I shrugged and started passing blue sandpaper over the wood.
-Why are you using so recent tools and stuff? Piper asked.
-Well a good craftsman can use anything one could offer them. The Ancient tools are better for making magic items, but…
-Magic items? You can make those? Jason asked.
-I’m working on it. This birdhouse should tweet. An idea hit me. I picked up an antique looking silver box and dumped its content on the worktable. I rummaged threw the stuff and picked out a comb, with silver, black-gemmed centered flowers. I handed it to Piper.
-Take this. I said handing it to her.
-Umm… Thanks Leo. She said.
-It’s a weapon, look. I took it back from her and grabbed one of the branches that held the comb in place. I tugged at it and out came a black dart the size of a toothpick.
-They’re darts. As well as being made out of celestial bronze, which kills monsters, the side that stays in the comb is poisonous. They don’t work on every monster, or so I am told, and there are only 3. A backup weapon if one looses their sword or spear. I said. I put the dart back in the comb and put it in Piper’s ponytail.
I felt like Santa Claus. He gives kidlets presents, I give demigods weapons. Same thing, basically.
-Umm, thanks Leo. You sure it’s safe?
-They are stuck in a comb until you tug. You just need to be careful when you take it out. And just in case, here. I said handing her a small flask filled with a hot pink liquid.
-The antidote, if things go wrong. I rummaged threw the stuff again.
-Hey, dude! Some guy told Jason. He wasn’t from Hephaestus.
-Good to have at least you alive. Did you hear?
-What? Jason asked, his curiosity winning it.
-Poseidon was here last night. He was arguing with Dionysus in the big house. That’s why the beach was all wacko yesterday. And Poseidon, he ain’t thrilled. Wouldn’t want to be under the sea this moment. Ah well, luck tomorrow! And the guy left as soon as he came.
-Who was that? Piper asked.
-I don’t know. I recall Ajax calling him Gus. From Zephyrus cabin I think.
-One of your cousins?
-Yes. Jason said.
-That explains a lot. Piper said,
-It’s why Chiron didn’t want us in the big house. Poseidon was there. I said.
-Oh, I’d bet he’d have loved to see you. Piper told Jason.
-Why?
-Well, supposedly you know deep, deep inside,
-Deep, deep, deep, deep inside, Jason corrected.
-… Where his son is. But you don’t know. In the myths mortals tended to do stuff like that and getting evaporated afterwards. Piper said. Jason paled a bit. I started rummaging again.
-Aha! I said. I’d found a copper ring. I looked at it and slipped it on my finger. I made a fist with my hand and a shield expanded from the center. A circular basic shield, except it was scratched.
-That’s weird; it was fine last time I took it out. I said frowning. Sorry Jason. I don’t have anything for you.
-That’s fine; I already have a sword and armour.
-You do?
-Yeah, Laurel showed me. He put on his hoody and his clothes changed into armour.
-Plus I figured out it never gets dirty. He said. He took off his helmet and he was wearing clothing again.
-Leo, this stuff is great! Piper said searching threw the bits and bobs.
-Half of them aren’t done yet. I said.
-How did you have time to make these? Jason asked amazed.
-I have barely left the forges. Most of the other kids have been here the whole day too.
-Have you eaten today?
-Of course. Jason, what’s wrong, you look weird.
-It’s this whole quest thing. I have no idea what I’m doing! Plus I got a weird dream, I know it was important, but I can’t remember!
-So everyone here’s been having nightmares? I asked.
-What, you too? Piper asked. I told them about the girl.
-It’s probably not important. Right now you should be focusing on your quest. I told Jason.
-I don’t even know where to begin with! Jason complained.
-I do. Said a voice behind us.
-She does. Another voice assured us. We all spun around.

Jason and Lily will be fine. Jason and Lily will be fine.
How could I guarantee that to myself?
Dylan and co were just a sample of what was out there! There were worse monsters that would gladly eat demigods! Sure they were with 2 of the 3 most powerful demigods out there, and they had other kids, who were using their lives practically for the sole purpose of killing these things, but still… Not good!
I was distracted when I went back in the cabin. Everybody was here, waiting for supper. I sat down on my bunk. A kid gasped.
-Leo, get off that thing! Jake said. I looked were I was sitting. It wasn’t my bed. It was one that stayed empty. It had cobwebs on it and it mustn’t have been used in ages. I got up.
-Why, what’s wrong with it?
-Don’t touch that bunk again. Jake said, pale as a ghost.
-What? Why not, it’s just a bunk. I thought it was mine. A conch horn blew in the distance.
-Hephaestus, line up. Jake bellowed, ignoring my question.
But seriously, it was just a bunk. I looked at it again. That was the bunk were the girl had been in my dream.

Departure
I woke up at 5 in the morning. Did I mind? No. That’s the time they dragged us outside for a “morning run” threw cacti at the Wilderness.
But I hadn’t slept well. First I’d been so nervous about the quest I fell asleep at midnight.
Second, I had another dream.
My dad was sitting on a chair in what looked like a police interrogation room, his eyes covered with a bandana. The room was brightly lit. He was talking to a woman I couldn’t see. She was wearing what looked like a suit and her hair was long and black.
-I told you, I know nothing! He said.
-Oh no, don’t lie to me. You know the minor gods are planning something just as well as me. What is it?
-What gods? I know nothing! Can you at least tell me who you are?
-Oh no. Your daughter might be listening.
-What daughter? I don’t have a kid, I’m not even married!
-Of course. Amycus, Sevetrix, take him away. There were weird sounds between what a dying chicken would sound like and a grumble.
-Are those what I think they..?
That’s when it ended.
The dreams had been going on for the last month. I had no phone, my dad said it gave cancer and stuff, I realised it might’ve been because of the whole demigod-dilemma. The Wilderness ran on as little technology as possible, which meant I had no way on checking whether the dreams were true. Did demigods even have prophetic dreams? I’d have to check…
I got dressed. I made my bed, because I’m very neat that way and noticed something under my pillow. A long package wrapped in Kraft paper. I unwrapped it. It was a scabbard and inside was a sword. I pulled it out.
It was made of a strange material I recognised as Stygian Iron. I’d seen it in the workshop when I went to talk to Leo, and Di Angelo had the same one. It was well balanced and felt right at home in my hands. The hilt was iron; a vine was growing around it, 2D black lilies attached (even if they weren’t vine plants), like on the scabbard.
-Woe. I whispered. I slashed threw the air. I slipped the sword back in the scabbard and searched the wrapping. There was nothing written on it.
I could’ve believed Leo made it. I knew better. This weapon had seen the underworld. It was a gift.
I attached the sword to my side; made sure the comb was in my hair, grabbed my bag and ran outside: I was late.
Everybody was already at the Big House along with Chiron. Mr D had passed on waking up at dawn for us. I tried not to feel disappointed (*cough*).
None of the quest members but Thalia and I looked really awake. She was pacing around the patio nervously. Jason had crashed on a chair. Butch was sitting on the arm of the chair, Rachel on the other, and Di Angelo was somewhere in the shadows. Chiron, in wheelchair form, was talking to Jason, who didn’t really looked awake. Talking to Thalia, was Annabeth. She seemed awake, her eyes red and her expression sad.
-There you are Piper! Chiron said. I handed him the “borrowed” sword.
-I don’t need it. I’ve got my own. I told him. He glanced at the sword at my side and nodded.
-What will mortals see it as? I asked.
-A purse maybe. He suggested.
-Piper, over here! Somebody said. It was Thalia. I went over to see her.
-Nice sword. Thalia said.
-Thanks.
-Nervous?
-Yes.
-It’ll be fine. We’ll make it. She said, thought I wasn’t sure that last part was for me, Annabeth or both of us.
-I don’t think Jason understood much of the plan. His head wasn’t there, Annabeth said. You’re good?
-Yes. I said recalling Annabeth’s plan from last night. She glanced at Jason.
-You should go talk to Jason. She said. I turned my head.
-Why? I asked.
-He looks horrible. You’re his girlfriend aren’t you?
-This conversation bores me. Thalia announced before trooping off to see Di Angelo.
-Sure, but he barely remembers me. I’m not sure how much you can do.
-More then you think. Annabeth said, her eyes twinkling for just a second. I looked back at him. He looked miserable.
-Alright. I said. I sat on the arm of his chair, Butch and Rachel haven gone to join Thalia and Di Angelo.
-Hi. I said.
-Hum? Oh, hi.
-You nervous? I asked stupidly.
-As much as I can get. You?
-Incredibly. You’ve done this stuff before, you’ve slain monsters and all that. I said.
-But I don’t remember it. Jason said.
-Maybe it’s like ridding a bike. You never really forget it. I suggested.
-Maybe. It’s just so frustrating! Everyone is on me,” Jason, glad you’re alive, what monster attacked you guys, who did it, where’s Percy”, I don’t know more then anybody else!
-But you do Jason. Deep down you know. I said softly. Don’t worry, it’ll be over soon. I said brushing my hand threw his hair. He turned at me quickly before remembering I was his girlfriend. Do you know how frustrating that is?
-Sorry. I forget.
-Heroes, gather ‘round! Chiron said before I could answer. He took my hand and we went near Chiron.
-Thank you. Annabeth. Chiron said.
-Plan is, you guys all go back to Armpit, Nevada to see the half-blood who found Jason. From there Jason’s trail should be clear enough for Rachel to see where he’s from. Jason raised his hand.
-I’ve got a question, how can you “see” a trail?
-It takes a mortal with strong sight. Carry on Annabeth. Rachel said. She was a quiver on her back and a bow in her hands. She was wearing jeans with holes whose origins I still wondered about, and paint splatters. Her t-shirt this time had Van Gogh’s face on it, and she was wearing an unzipped jacket over it.
-Anyways, logically the trail will lead to where Percy and Ria are kept. The rest is up to you guys. She said.
-Right. You all have what you need? We nodded.
-Then may the gods be with you. Good luck, and have a nice flight.

This next part doesn't really have anything to do with the story, but I had to put it.

Annabeth
Bittersweet
Watching the 4 Pegasus soar up in the sky was bittersweet. Something was happening. Someone was looking! I just wished I could’ve been on one of the horses...
I’d had a chance to go. First to be offered after the original 4. I could’ve been there, been one of the first to see him, to talk to him, to touch him. I could’ve found him.
But reason took the best of me. I’d listened to logic above what I wanted the most. Lately I’d been fighting with the skill of a squirrel, couldn’t even beat Malcolm. Fatigue, stress, nerves and hunger wouldn’t help that, no matter how close we were. I’d get myself killed and the quest members would lose a warrior. It was logical.
My mother would’ve been proud.

After the horses were out of view I felt my eyes stinging.
-Annabeth… Chiron said softly.
I ran. I ran strait to the forest, threw it. I stopped when my I reached the creek. The sun had risen at this point, spreading daylight threw the leafs.
I remembered 5 years ago, we were 12. His two feet in the creek, fighting Clarisse, which was when I started to really pay attention to him. Before he was just some kid, possibly Zeus’, that’d needed to find his cabin. He was strong, brave, funny, and above all cute. Then the stupid glowing trident appeared and I’d started disliking him all over again. At least for another summer.
I took off again.
I’d reached Zeus’ fist. Another memory haunted me.
Standing back to back with him, fighting Kâmpe. I’d honestly thought that was it. It’d be the last I’d seen of Seaweed brain, and I’d die myself.
Many did. We’d been sparred.
I sprinted off.
I was out of the forest, leaning on a tree, and I could see the beach in the distance. I ran for it. My throat felt like I’d just swallowed a particularly lethal poison, my knees like the time I’d slipped on the climbing wall when I was seven, and my chest like I had Kâmpe standing on it again, except this time I didn’t have anybody else to help bear the weight.
I plopped down on the sand, starred at the beach and let the tears flow.
I hadn’t gone. It was unlike me. Butch, Katie, Thalia, Chiron, those who knew me where all confused. But I couldn’t risk being a handicap to the team, especially with Hera’s curse back. No. It was better Butch went.
I could still leave. Guido, the Pegasus I usually took, was still here. I could go to the stables and find them in Nevada.
Annabeth, this isn’t like the fleece. You aren’t thirteen, you can’t just run away. The small, reasonable part of my brain said.
Yes I can.
I starred at the ocean, plans forming in my head, being discarded for newer, better ones.
“You’re being unreasonable, Annabeth” a familiar voice spoke in my head. The tears stopped spilling.
-Mother?
“You are being rash. It would be most unwise to leave the camp in the state you are in.”
-All of my life I’ve done the wise thing! I’ve put reason and logic as a better judgement then what I wanted! Just this once…
“‘What’s in a name? That which we call a rose by any other name would smell as sweet’, do you know that quote?”
-Of course I do its Romeo and Juliet.
“It means things don’t change because of their name. The son of Poseidon’s return will not change because of his saviour.”
I didn’t know what to say. Athena could reach inside of you and take out the self pity as easily as Percy picks the blue M&M out of the bag. I realised my talk with Athena was over. I’d just have to wait and see.
I turned my gaze back to the ocean. It looked just like it did in the summer thanks to the magical barriers. I’d been here so often. If you were looking for him, he was here. Except now. I wiped my eyes with the sleeve of my jacket and got up. I looked at the ocean one more time.
-He’ll be fine. I know he will. I said out loud, as if to the ocean itself.
I was answered with waves crashing on the shore.

How I got stuck on the same Pegasus as Di Angelo, I don’t know. Butch said it was because children of Hades didn’t go with Pegasi, and I’d help for some reason.
The whole time Di Angelo was humming songs from the 60’s.
-Dude, what are you doing? I asked after 20 minutes.
-It increases flower power. He yelled back. I turned my head and faced him. He was smirking.
-Vlacas. I said under my voice. Idiot. How did I know that word?
I stayed patient and ignored the bad 60’s music for the whole trip. When we landed, I was the first off, I even beat Thalia.
We were in a backyard. It was just a little bigger then the room 4 Pegasi needed. There were two baby pines, which Thalia didn’t seemed too thrilled abut, and a bunch of ceramic statues of Greek gods, mostly Olympians.
-I think we’re in the right place. Rachel said examining the Apollo statue.
-There’s no Hades! There never is Hades! Nico complained.
-He’s not one of the original Olympians. I said. Nico turned.
-Thought they told you about last year. He said.
-They did, I said original.
-Let’s just go. Butch said, sensing a fight. We climbed the steps of the patio and Jason knocked on the door.
-Most people use the front entrance. I said softly.
-Most people don’t carry weaponry. Rachel replied. At that moment a woman opened the patio door.
She had strawberry blond hair, cut mid-neck and sparkling blue eyes that had a strange gleam to them. Like she’d just written on your face (been there, it was a faze at Wilderness). She was really short for a 25 year-old. Her features were elfin, her smile sarcastic. Except she didn’t smile when she saw us.
-May I help you? She asked.
-Yes, hi, Jason said. He introduced everyone.
-Are you Clare Foster, daughter of..?
-Hermes? Yes. She said.
-Hi, may we come in? Jason asked. Clare looked around.
-Look, my kids will be back for lunch soon…
-We’re on a quest. Butch spilled.
-We come from camp. Jason added. Clare raised an eyebrow.
-To see me? Hey, wait, you’re…
-The kid you stuck on a bus the other day. Yes. Jason said.
-Okay, come in. She said. We filed in her house. We were in a modern kitchen, with shiny metal appliances and green granite counters. Rachel and Thalia made themselves at home on a counter. Butch and Nico sat at a bar. Jason and I sat down at a table, where Clare joined us.
-What’s this one about? She asked. We filled her in.
-I knew the Sea Lord was angry. I knew he’d lost something. I hadn’t thought it was this. She said. The front door opened.
-Mommy? Somebody called from the front of the house.
-Kitchen, sweaty. Clare called. Two little girls, one 9, one 5 came in. The eldest was blond, the youngest had brown hair and blue eyes, except their features were round. They froze in the door frame.
-Jessie, Aless, these are some of my cousins. Guys, these are my daughters, Jessie and Alessandra.
-Hi. I said, trying to sound friendly.
-Mommy, those people have swords. The younger one said.
-No Jessie, they don’t. You better get your eyes checked. Her sister replied.
-Girls, why don’t you go play upstairs, lunch isn’t ready yet. Clare said. The two girls ran to their rooms.
-Jessie sees threw the mist, like most children with a demigod parent. Alessandra doesn’t, thank Hermes; it’d just make it harder. Clare said going to the pantry.
-Make what harder? Rachel asked as Clare spreaded peanut butter on pieces of bread.
-My job. I don’t want them to know about gods, monsters, etc. For now at least. See, children of demigods, even with only one parent, can still inherit certain things. Seeing threw the mist is one. In rare occasions, they can develop a scent. Particularly the ones who see threw the mist. It’s not a strong one, but good monsters can still pick it up. That’s why we had to move from New York. Too much attraction there, it wasn’t safe. Clare said.
-And Alessandra, she’s a real prankster. She looks sweat and all, but never doubt her skills with a can of whipped cream.
-She gets that from you? Butch asked.
-Yes. I am master of canned sugar products. I used to be like her. But I had to grow up when she was born, Clare said, working on a second sandwich. I bet you inherited something, Piper.
-Me? I asked surprised. Clare looked at me puzzled.
-Of course, your father’s Adahy Ross, right?
-Yeah, that’s him. I said.
-He was really nice to me when I was a kid. He was counsellor when I got to camp. Really nice with me. I needed that, I was only nine.
-Wait, woe, my dad went to camp Half-Blood? That means that he’s a…
-A demigod. Didn’t anyone tell you? Adahy Ross, son of Hermes.
-My dad was a demigod? Since when!
-Since he’s born. Di Angelo said. I turned to him.
-Not helping. Jason told him, half whispering.
- Why didn’t anyone tell me? Someone at camp must’ve known, Chiron, Hermes’ kids, somebody!
-Piper, calm down. Jason said.
-Seriously, this has something to do with the dream!
-Lily, calm down, what dream? I turned to face Jason.
-What? He asked at my confused look.
-You’ve never called me Lily before. That’s Leo. I whispered.
-You don’t, like it? He asked confused.
-No, it’s fine. I said.
-What dream? Thalia asked. I told them about the weird dream series. They all looked at me weird.
-You didn’t tell anybody? Butch asked.
-Leo and Jason. I didn’t think it was important. Just… dreams. Thalia, Nico and Butch’s eyes crossed.
-Piper, Thalia said softly, the thing is, demigod dreams, they aren’t dreams. They’re omens, revelations and junk. What’s happening to your dad is real. I froze and fear engulfed me.
-I doubted that. I thought it was just police questioning or stuff until lately… I never tied him to any of this! I closed my eyes.
My dad was a demigod.
I never noticed before. How could I not?
-That happens to a lot of kids Piper, Clare said as if reading thoughts. Your dad sent you to boarding schools to keep you away from him. And in summers he did his best to keep monsters away, that’s how it works most of the time with children of demigods.
-Two demigods attract a lot of monsters. I should’ve seen at least one. I complained.
-Adahy controlled the mist. He carried a knife wherever he went when he was a kid, I doubt his habits changed. He was persistent. Clare said as her daughters came running in the room.
-Here, go eat in the dinning room. Clare said handing each girl a plate with a peanut butter sandwich and an apple. Jessie was starring at me.
-Is that a real sword? She asked me.
-It’s not a sword sweaty, it’s a baseball bat. Clare said patiently, shoeing her daughters out of the room.
-About the quest… Jason said.
-Yes. I found you near the school. I can take you there if you like.
-But, the Pegasi? Butch asked.
-We’ll follow the car overhead. Thalia said, not liking her suggestion.
-I can stay in the car. Nico offered.
-Scared of horses?
-Stop it. Rachel said.
-I’ll stay there too. There are enough of you guys to fly the Pegasi. Thalia said.
-Great. Clare looked at her watch.
-The kids leave at 12:45. Until then make yourselves at home. The living room’s over there. Bathroom’s upstairs. Try not to hang around Jessie. Clare said.
Nico, Butch and Rachel went to the living room to check the news. Thalia stayed in the kitchen with Jason and a shocked and scared me.
-This your first quest? Clare asked, taking more bread out.
-I don’t know. Jason said.
-Yes.
-No. Thalia said.
-Jason, you were on the original quest that turned sour. Thalia said.
-I guess. Does it count? It wasn’t finished. He asked.
-I think. Thalia answered. He shrugged.
-It’ll go well, don’t worry. Your training will come back to you as you need it, most likely. Clare said. Jason didn’t look that convinced.
-I remember my first quest, she said thoughtfully. We were supposed to bring Medusa’s head back. We found Medusa eventually. It didn’t go well. Sean Nickerson, son of Peitho, he didn’t make it. Neither did the other girl, Laura Quivling. Got the head. Nearly had it used against me. Good times. Clare said smiling. Her hand was clutching to a necklace, with about 27 clay beads on it.
-How did you get so many beads? Thalia asked.
-Every summer, even if you aren’t still training, they send you a bead.
-Even if you aren’t training?
-It’s still a year survived. Clare shrugged. She slipped the sandwiches in a Ziploc bag and tossed it to Thalia.
-Here. You’ll most likely need these. Demigod quests are ruff. Clare said, her sarcastic smile gone.

Leo
The girl and I were walking on the beach. Her hair was packed to the top of her head. She was wearing no make-up, she wore Greek armour and she didn’t smile. Natural beauty I guess, sort-of like what Jason saw in Piper.
-What’s your name? I asked again. The girl said something, but her voice was so weak I didn’t hear. I asked her to speak louder. She tried again, but I couldn’t hear anything. I got closer to her. I could smell her; she smelled like smoke.
-Write it in the sand. I suggested. She crouched and took a piece of wood that got brought in by the waves. She started writing. I, S, but then she froze, looked at something behind me and her face was terrified. She grabbed her necklace and ripped it off her neck as it grew into a spear.
I woke up.
I, s.
Isabelle, Isabella? Isis? Issy, Isa? What was her name?
It was about 6 in the morning. Jake was up and working. I got up. I’d come back form the forge late and just fell asleep.
-Morning Leo. Jake said. He was spreading stain on a chair that would glue whoever sat on it on (stay away from unidentified chairs)
-Hey, Jake. I said rubbing my eyes. I approached him.
-Will you sit on this for me? He asked, backing away from his creation.
-No. Do you know a girl who lived here whose name starts with an I? I asked. Jake froze.
-A girl whose name starts with I. He mused.
-Is. Dark hair, scowl, black eyes. He looked at me pale-faced.
-Follow me. He said. He led me out of the cabin, to the beach. The water surface was undisturbed and pearly grey. It’d calmed down yesterday, so I’m guessing Poseidon had either calmed down or was too busy to make it agitated.
-Who is she? I asked. Jake looked disturbed. He was licking his lips and looking nervous in general.
-Her name was Isadora James, Jake said glumly. She was here in 1950.
-What?
-Yeah. Daughter of Hephaestus. Except thing is, she isn’t really related to him. Her parents sacrificed her to him in Ancient Greece.
-That sounds extreme.
-Her parents were extreme. Anyways, Hephaestus felt sorry for the poor girl so he… I guess adopted her. He made a deal with Hades to preserve her soul until he built her a new body. It took a while. A long while. Longer then most projects because he needed the body to work like one. He built it out of the closest things he could find to flesh and skin. It works like any other body, it could grow, it could age, get sick, get wounded and eventually die of age. Anyways, it was ready and he released the soul in the body.
-How does one do that?
-He’s a god. Jake shrugged.
-Sorry, go on.
-So Dora was considered a demigod but she wasn’t. She hanged in the cabin and stuff. She was great at the forges, weapons were her specialty. At some point she forgot something in the cabin during an activity, so she went back. She didn’t go back. Anyways they went to check and there was blood everywhere. The only thing left of her was her left fore-arm that’d been cut off in the struggle. They don’t know who, or why, but since then we don’t use that bunk. That’s why some of us panicked the other day. Now you know. Jake said. I starred at the ocean.
Isadora James. So that was her name… Wow. She must’ve been special for a god to bother paying so much attention to her.
-I’ll be at the forges. Tell me if someone sits on my chair.
-Will do. I said as Jake walked off.
Why was I dreaming of her? It seemed random. Unless Hephaestus was going to need to build one of my friends another body, I didn’t see how this had to do with anything.
But demigod dreams are never just dreams.

Jason
The school was made of brown brick and its name was written in yellow letters. “Adonis Elementary”. Rachel, Piper, Butch and I were standing in the parking lot.
Clare was wearing a long grey coat. She walked towards the entrance of the school holding Jessie by one hand and her coat closed with the other. Alessandra, Nico and Thalia were following her. She held the door as they walked inside. Thalia and Nico joined us.
-She needs to sign something in the school. She’ll be out in a minute. Thalia said shivering. The wind had picked up. Piper’s hair was flying. She brushed it behind her ear. She really was pretty… I stopped starring at her. My coin was in my sweaty palm. I starred at it. Where had I gotten it?
-Hey, Butch? I asked. He turned to face me.
-Hmm?
-Do you know where I got the sword? I asked showing him the coin.
-That? You came back with it one day, said it was a gift. Didn’t ask more. He said.
-Oh. Thanks. I said.
-Where did you guys leave the Pegasi anyways? Nico asked.
-Out in the baseball field over there. Piper answered. It was quiet again. Until a woman approached us. A cascade of velvety black curls fell to her shoulders and she was wearing a long tweed coat and high-healed boots. She had creamy skin, and heart shaped lips.
-What do you think you’re doing? She hissed at us.
-What? I said.
-Look, standing in a parking lot, each of you carrying a weapon is not what I call being subtle. What do they teach at camp these days? She said.
-Umm, I’m Jason, son of Boreas. You are..?
-Si, no! Clare said. She jogged towards us. Clare introduced us to her friend. She looked at Piper.
-Adahy’s kid? She asked.
-Yes. Guys, this is my friend Sienna Nova, daughter of Urania. Sorry Si, they’re on a quest. I’ll fill you in later. Clare said. Sienna relaxed.
-I thought… Never mind. Good luck on your quest son of Boreas. I’ll see you later Clare. She said before going back to her car.
-Si’s boy goes here too. It’s a great school for demigods.
-Demigods? Rachel said surprised.
-Yes. Si’s son Liam is a son of Morpheus, Alessandra’s age. There are a bunch of other demigods in the school. Armpit has more demigods then any other city, even New York. In a way it’s good. The older ones can protect the young and there’s so much energy, it confuses monsters. They know we’re here, but only the good ones can separate one scent from the others, this school in particular. Clare said.
-Wait, are your kids demigods?
-No! My husband’s a mortal. But I have talked to Chiron about sending Jessie to camp when she gets older. Strong-sighted mortals get picked on as well; monsters don’t want you to see them for who they really are. Clare said. We all looked at Rachel.
-Its true, she blushed, I had to play dumb a lot, when I was younger I wasn’t so discreet about seeing monsters.
-Neither is Jessie. Anyways I found you by the door the kids come out by. Follow me. Clare said. She walked off to the other side of the building. We followed. The wind was picking up. I didn’t like it. I crossed Piper’s gaze and tell she didn’t either.
-Clare, are you armed? Piper wondered.
- What kind of a claimed demigod goes around unarmed? Clare asked. She pushed a gate open and we walked in a yard where kindergarteners were playing. I noticed some of them more then others. One had grey eyes that seemed too intelligent for a 5 year-old and one just looked at me, eyes big as saucers.
-I warned you there’d be some demigods. Clare whispered.
-Look a sword! The grey-eyed girl said.
-It’s not a sword Marie, go play! Said an old woman with an Indian accent, snapping her fingers.
-Controlling the mist. I heard Thalia said.
-Clare Foster, visiting hours are not now! She warned.
-Sorry Deborah, emergency. Clare said, thought we’d passed the yard.
-This conversation is not over miss! Deborah called. Clare chuckled. She stopped at another door.
-You were lying were that rock is. She said.
-Rachel, you see anything godly? Butch asked.
-I see 5 demigods and Zeus knows how many more over there. She said. She squinted.
-The trail’s weakened. Not enough so it’s invisible. Just enough that I won’t be able to spot it from aerial view. She announced.
Uh oh.
-Perhaps, I can help. Somebody said from behind. We spun around.
The woman had black hair, tied back in a ponytail. She was wearing a black suit and a matching top-hat. Her eyes were like gas on a road, black as coals, colors occasionally shimmering in them, like oil on a road. She was slim and a little taller then Clare, but something told me she was more powerful then the daughter of Hermes… Everybody else was bowing. I decided it was best to imitate.
-Rise. The woman said. We all stood up.
-I’d better go. Good luck. Clare said. She leaned towards me and added:
- Me and Hecate don’t get along well anyways.

That Clare was a child of Hestia? I'm confused. Anyways, here's more. Also I'm feeling generous, since I'm almost done writting, so here are two pretty long ones.

-Lady Hecate, why have you come? Thalia asked. Then I noticed Hecate’s face changed. Her skin, hair and other traits were the same, but her face was now a little older, her features sharper and her skin tight on her bones. I remembered the stories. The goddess with 3 faces.
-Am I not allowed to help? She said softly.
-No, no, that’s not it. She only meant, umm… We didn’t know if… Butch said clumsily.
-Why I came? You are trying to find two lost demigods, unless I am mistaken. Her face changed. It was younger, her eyes a little closer together, cheeks rosy.
-The Son of the Sea God and my eldest, Ariadne.
-Yes, that’s it. Nico said.
-Odd that your leader doesn’t speak. Her face changed to the first. I glanced around, anywhere but the goddess’s eyes. I looked at Piper. She was pale.
-Umm, I’ve just never really met a goddess. Sorry. I said.
-No worries, no worries. I can grant you what you need most; I can grant you an escape route for moments to come, or I can grant you a sparing. She said starring at Piper.
-What?
-I’m feeling generous. I have plenty of magic. I can give you…
-We heard. I said. We all looked at each other
-I don’t like how she said “sparing” and looked at me. Piper said.
-Me either. I agreed.
“Sparing”.
That sounded like “life saving”.
-An escape route means we won’t have to fight monsters. Rachel said.
-Not fighting is good. Butch said.
-But what we need most… A path. Thalia said.
-We can fight monsters, if we can’t see the path and travel fast we wont get anywhere after the monsters. Nico said.
-What if it’s a bad monster? Jason said.
-Never doubt what Thalia can do with a pointy stick. Nico said wisely.
-He’s right. We’ve handled bad things like this before. Butch said.
-We go for the important thing? I asked.
-Yes. Everyone agreed. I turned back to Hecate. She was wearing her original face.
-Lady Hecate, I said, we’ve decided to take your generous gift or the important thing. Hecate’s eyes twinkled.
-Suit yourself. She said. She waved her hand and Rachel gasped.
-What? Thalia asked.
-I can see the path. She said, squinting like you would after someone takes a picture of you and the flash is too bright.
-You will, for 5 days until it dies. By Pegasus, you should be able to achieve it. I must go back to Olympus. You have a little surprise coming your way and I wouldn’t want to get in your way. She turned to Piper.
-While we are mourning the loss, others are rejoicing to meet him behind the veil.
She said. And her eyes seemed genuinely grief-stricken. Piper looked at her, confused and a little scared. She was pale. Hecate scared her for some reason.
-Umm, what’s that supposed to- mean? I looked back and Hecate was gone.
-That was odd. Nico said. Lightning flashed, the wind picked up and the sky darkened. The kids filed back in the school, their watcher sending me a look that clearly meant “good luck”. Piper and I crossed glances.
-Draw your weapons! We both said at once.

A small tornado appeared in front of us. It touched down and it turned into a spinning Dylan.
-Hello sweetheart. He told Piper.
-Don’t talk to my girlfriend like that Dylan! I said. My sword was in my hand and Dylan obviously didn’t like it.
-What did you call him? Thalia asked.
-Dylan. I said as another tornado touched down.
-That’s Livas! You’ve dealed with these things before? She yelled.
-Yes! Piper said. Before I knew it Dylan spoke up.
-Well, well. Daughter of Zeus. Long time no see.
-I was enjoying that. Thalia replied. She tapped a silver bracelet and out sprang a shield. On it there was the face of the gorgon, Medusa. I backed up, that was a creepy picture.
-You think you can beat us again child of Boreas? You got lucky once, but now… He was interrupted when an arrow hit him in the chest. He ripped it out and golden Ichor spilt.
-The first blood spilt… Ah well, for every drop of mine a thousand of yours will be spilt! He said, which seemed mathematically impossible to me. Three electric bolts crackled out of his fingers, aiming for Piper and I. We leaped out of the way and a crater formed in the ground. Thalia lifted her arm and lightning touched down on her fingertips, went threw her body, down her spear and strait for Dylan. I understood what she was doing. Dylan took the bolts except it did him no harm.
-I am as vulnerable as these as you, girl. He said. But Piper and I were already on him. Piper’s blow did a little less damage. The wound healed fast. He swatted Piper aside and she went flying, hitting her head on someone’s fence.
-Piper! I yelled. I planted my sword in Dylan’s shoulder. Butch threw a weighed net on top of the monster and I leapt out from under it just in time. I noticed Nico and Rachel fighting the second Venti –err anemoi. I didn’t have time to worry how that was going. Lightning flew out of the holes in the net and Dylan wrestled to get out.
-Thalia and I are the only ones who can fight him, go work on the other one! I told Butch. He ran over to the other ones. Dylan went to wind form and blew the net over. He reformed besides Thalia, grabbed her by the neck and took off.
Oh yeah? Well two can play at that game. I thought.
I called wind and jumped on it, willing it to carry me as high as Thalia. I ducked to avoid lightning shot by either of them. Thalia planted her spear into Dylan and he howled, dropping her. As she fell onto the wind with me, he pulled the weapon out, snapped it in two, and threw it. It hit me in the chest and would’ve killed me if I wasn’t wearing the armour. Thalia catched it. I was at the same altitude as Dylan. He was one big sweaty bloody figure now. Not dead yet, but eventually the celestial bronze would kill him. I took my sword and threw it. It hit him square in the chest. He exploded into golden dust and, the sword fell, (major safety hazard) turning back to a coin. I willed the wind to drop us down and it did. I ran to Piper, where Butch, Nico and Rachel were already.
-Is she okay? I asked.
-She has a pulse. Rachel said.
-Her life aura is going strong. Nico informed us. I didn’t have time to care about what a life aura was.
-Was this what Hecate was talking about? Thalia asked. She had her spear in her hand and she handed me my coin.
-Possibly. I said. Piper blinked and sat up, propping herself against the fence.
-Owe. She muttered her hand to her temples.
-You okay? I asked relieved.
-I think. She said.
-Concussion probably. Thalia said.
-I’m fine. Help me up. She asked. I took her hand and helped her up. She shook her head and blinked a few times.
-He did it again. She said at me, a smile creeping on her lips.
-Yes I know, he was hitting on you again. I said.
She was fine. Good.
-Do you need ambrosia or nectar? Butch asked.
-I can take a hit just fine. We better get going. Piper said, pointing to the school. Kids were at the windows, noses pressed against it, eyes big as plates.
-Fighting in front of classes full of strong-seers and demigods, not a great idea. Butch said.
-Let’s get out of here. Thalia went to collect her spear, which had reformed somehow, and grabbed my coin at the same time. We mounted the Pegasi. Rachel and Thalia took off first, the rest of us followed.

Piper
My head already hurt so Di Angelo’s humming was really getting on my nerves. I didn’t yell or anything…
You’re 16, you’re more mature, ignore the freaky twit that happens to be your step-brother.
I was glad Hecate had left. Dark-haired woman wearing a suit… It was too much like my dream. Hecate was keeping my father, I knew it. I wouldn’t tell the others. They wouldn’t believe me, after what Hecate had done to help us, and it was a quest to help save her daughter… But I knew what I’d seen.
I’m pretty sure we weren’t in Nevada anymore. It’d been a day of traveling. It’d been monster-less thanks to the fact we’d been in the air.
We’d stopped traveling for the day. The snow melted wherever I stepped, which made it easier to plant the two tents we had. Nico and Thalia were working on it. Rachel and I were trying to start a fire while Jason and Butch went scouting.
-Hey Thalia? Nico asked.
-What?
-Do you get beads from camp every year for surviving?
-Not the hunters. We’re with a goddess, we’re in strong groups, and therefore surviving isn’t as hard. I get a small jewel on the back of my crown. She answered.
-You have a crown? I asked.
-Yes. I try not to wear it when I can. She said. She turned around.

-We don’t have enough kindling. I told Rachel.
-What?
-Small twigs to get the fire started. I explained.
-Oh. I can go find more.
-I’ll come too. I said. I brushed the dirt off my jeans and at that moment something caught my eye. A rainbow had just appeared on top of the woods. It hadn’t rained… Weirder, the rainbow had 5 colors, not 7.
- It’s a distress signal from Butch! Di Angelo said. We ran off to where the rainbow was, swords drawn. My kindergarten teacher would’ve been disappointed –after all that “don’t run with scissors” stuff…
In the clearing I froze. Mostly because someone had grabbed the back of my hoody, but the sight was impressive as well.
The valley was a campground. A bonfire taller then me, was in the middle, small white tents circling it. One was bigger then the others. I saw Thalia, Nico and Rachel as stuck as me and on my right Jason and Butch were in pretty bad shape. Butch seemed to have lost consciousness and Jason had an ugly bleeding gash on his cheek and wrists.
-Jason! I yelled. I tried to run but the grip around my collar strengthened.
-Not so fast rosy. A voice said. I turned my neck.
The woman holding me was huge. Taller then the huge redhead I’d seen traumatising little kids at camp. She had a quiver loaded with razor sharp arrows on her shoulder, a bow in one hand, another providing an iron hold on me. She was wearing a knee-length parchment dress with a large brown belt, a sword hanging on her wait. Her hair was brown like tree bark, pulled up in a high ponytail and her eyes were chocolate brown. She had a certain toughness about her, not just her strong frame there was a grace to her as well. A hard character to imagine…
-You’re not going anywhere. She informed me.
-Not with you holding my shoulder like that. I snapped.
-Piper-don’t. Nico said. He sounded nearly… afraid.
Obviously Thalia hadn’t had the memo.
She was thrashing against the woman holding her. A bolt of lightning crackled out of the sky. I was sure the woman’d be fried but she stepped out of the way, not even looking up.
-Thalia, quit it! Nico yelled at her. She stopped, her eyes as menacing as ever.
-That’s right, listen to your cousin. Her woman said. She was practically asking for it at that point. I didn’t blame Thalia for thrashing.
-Clonie, stop. Mine said coldly. Clonie looked annoyed but shut up.
-Look, what do you want? Jason said. I didn’t get why he wasn’t moving.
-What do we want? You’re on our land Boread, we don’t like that.
-You’ll have to talk to our mistress if you want to get out of here.
-Umm, your mistress, who is she? And while we’re on that subject, who are you? I asked. The women laughed, booming laughs that would’ve caused avalanches if we were near a mountain.
-Our mistress? You must know the great Hypolite! You are clueless of your roots demigod. The woman holding me said.
-I figured that out a day or so ago. I muttered. I felt a painful blow to the back of my head, that I’d probably deserved. Thalia and Jason roared with rage.
-I will not be talked to insolently. She snapped.
-Polemusa, we have not received orders. One said. I looked for the voice and I got it when another woman stepped out of the bonfire. She had black hair and eyes and a scowl. She reminded me strangely of Leo. She had a small and tight leather necklace hanging on her neck.
-Take them to see Hypolite. She ordered.
-As you wish. Polemusa said threw gritted teeth. Thalia, Di Angelo and I got dragged away. I didn’t know what they planned on doing with Rachel and Jason (Butch wasn’t really a problem) but we all got in the biggest tent.
It was enormous. I never could’ve guessed how big it was from the outside. There was a roman style bed in one corner. Maps of the world, so old they were beige and some new were hanging on the wall. There was a mahogany desk with a chair in the middle. Another huge woman was sitting at it, her feet propped on the desk and sharpening a knife. She looked like the other, a leather chocker on her neck. She looked more imposing then the others. Her blond hair was packed behind her head and her eyes were chocolaty brown. She got up when she saw us. A parchment cape dropped to the ground. The other huge women bowed and forced us down.
-Leave them, to me. The woman, Hypolite I presumed, said. They all backed out of the room. I noticed they left us with our weapons. Odd. Hypolite came forwards and walked down the line we formed.
-Well, well. Thalia Grace. Zeus’ youngest, or so I presume. Aren’t you with the rest of the warrior maidens?
-The hunters. Thalia hissed, her voice strangely controlled. She moved to Nico.
-And what do we have here. Two children of the Underworld! She looked at me.
-Persephone’s child isn’t the third. Where is the Sea God son? She demanded.
-Gone. Vanished. Nico said, detaching the two words. She scanned his face, looking for something that she could use as proof of a lie.
-The Queen’s child will do. She decided.
-Umm, excuse me? Who are you? I asked. Hypolite gazed at me.
-I am Hypolite. Leader of the Amazons.

I figured this wasn’t good.
Then I figured this was obvious.
Warriors at birth? Duh!
Any daughter of an Amazon grew up to be an Amazon. She was brought up learning how to bulls-eye a target and winning swordfights, not reading or counting.
-Hypolite, what do you want from us? Nico asked.
-You are on our land. Therefore we can keep you as slaves, tie you up and leave you for beasts or kill you, she said coldly, but I can give you a chance to make up for it.
-How generous. Thalia mumbled.
-Thalia, shut up. Nico snapped.
-Hold you tongue huntress. Your goddess isn’t here this time; therefore I rule this camp and the people in it.
-Hypolite, what do you want from us? I asked.
-Long, long ago an arrogant brother or cousin of yours stole a girdle belonging to our folk.
-He did not steal it, it was an exchange! Thalia said.
-It was the object or my sister. It was not a fair trade. He gave it to his master, who sacrificed it to the gods. I want it back.
-The gods have it, not us. Nico said. But I understood.
- That is not a fair exchange. I said.
-Wait, you want to trade us for a stupid girdle? Thalia said.
-What’s a girdle anyways? Di Angelo asked.
-Google it. I said, starring at the Amazon in disbelief.
-You think they’d do it? Thalia asked.
-Two Underworld children and a daughter of Zeus, who is also the lieutenant of Artemis. Of course it would’ve worked better if the child of Poseidon would be here, but I think the trade is equal. And if it doesn’t work once, we can add the Boread, son of Iris and oracle of Delphi.
Thalia and Nico crossed glances. This wasn’t good. Hypolite snapped her fingers. 3 more women came and attached our wrists and ankles together, now disarming us. I was surprised at how much weaponry they got out of us. They took Thalia’s shield-bracelet, her shield/canister, me and Nico’s swords, a silver disk from Nico’s pocket, a dagger from a compartment in the sole of Thalia’s shoes, you get the idea.
-Don’t try anything. Hypolite said, before leaving the tent with her two minions. Immediately I started struggling against the bonds.
-If you fight against them, the handcuffs will burn you. Thalia said. I didn’t listen and soon my wrists were stinging. The sting got more violent.
-Will the gods give them the stupid girdle?
-Hard to say. We’re their kids, but it’s a magical item so strong... Normally I’d say yes, but they can’t afford to lose another magical object. Thalia said.
-Another? What’s that supposed to mean? Nico asked.
-Didn’t you..? Oh my gods, you don’t even know why Percy left, do you? Thalia asked.
-No. You do? Nico said. Thalia shrugged.
-I hear things from Artemis. She believes in sharing knowledge.
-So what was Percy and Jason’s quest? I asked.
-They were trying to find the necklace of Harmonia, but that doesn’t matter right now. How do we get out? Thalia said.
-They took all my weapons. Nico said. He had a look on his face that said “paws off my weapons or you die”.
-Me too. Thalia said.
-I still have one! I realised, in a whisper.
-What, where? They asked.
-It’s a comb, in my hair. It has poisonous darts hidden in the spikes. I said.
-None of us could reach it, less throw a dart! Thalia said. I scanned the room for any weapons. Not that I could see. Thalia groaned in frustration.
After another 2 minutes of waiting for someone to come or anything, really, Di Angelo got that look cartoon characters get before a light bulb pops up above their heads. In a worm-like fashion he moved towards the shadows of the tent, slowly but surely.
-Nico, what are you doing? Thalia asked.
-Going to the shadow. Then I can… He made it in the shadows and disappeared.
-Did he just ditch us? I asked after a few seconds.
-No, he shadow-traveled, to get help! Thalia said, her eyes lit up. Soon enough, he appeared back in the shadows, his hands untied, a dagger in his hand.
-Quick trip to Clare Foster’s house, fortunately she was there. He said, rushing to untie Thalia’s bonds. He broke mine. I pulled out the comb, squeezed one of the branches and took out a dart.
We waited until one Amazon came in. She turned to face us but I got her, strait in the nose. She collapsed.
-The poison isn’t lethal is it? Thalia worried.
-Only to certain monsters I think. The branch itself is celestial bronze.
-Her life aura is going strong. Nico said. We approached the warrior. She had a bow and a quiver and a sword at her side. Thalia grabbed the bow, I took the sword. We snuck out of the tent and quickly spotted the two women with our weapons from our hiding spots in the bushes.
-We need to get the weapons. Nico, go get them, I’ll distract them, and Piper, go look for Butch, Rachel and Jason, if you find them get them back to camp, we’ll meet you there. Thalia suggested.
-Get her with a dart. Nico whispered.
-I have arrows, don’t waste the darts. Thalia said. The bow was too big for Thalia, which didn’t stop her from hitting her target. Amazons froze and starred at us.
-Scatter! Nico whispered. Thalia hurried up a tree, he shadow traveled and I don’t know how I got there, but I was in a tent where Rachel, Jason and Butch were tied up. I was as surprised as they were. I stepped out of the shadow and blocked the strike of an Amazon. I blocked her strikes and at some point, I got her in the stomach. She fell to her knees and retreated to a corner. I knew I had to finish her off, she could still fight. I raised my sword but I didn’t have the heart to do it. But I couldn’t let her free… Instead roots sprung out of the ground and wrapped themselves around the warrior.
-How did you do that? Jason asked.
-Everything sprouts in spring; she just made it happen in winter. Rachel said as I struggled with the ropes. I lost patience and sliced the rope, which I probably should’ve done in the first place.
-Hey! Somebody said stepping in the tent. I got a crazy idea…
I threw the sword at her and in that moment of distraction, I grabbed Rachel, who was clutching Butch and Jason by the hands and we shadow traveled.
We were back at our campground. After Rachel explained the concept of shadow-traveling to Jason (I listened), I filled them in about what had happened in the tent.
-They’ll know where to find us. They’ll make it, we should stay put. Rachel said. She was kneeling next to Butch. He was still uncouncient and his skin was clammy.
-What happened to him? I asked Jason.
-An Amazon popped up behind us, grabbed him by the neck and forced a liquid down his throat. Said it was Skorpio poison or something.
-I know how to treat it! Rachel said, relieved.
-You do?
-I do, the only remedy is a mix of plants.
-It’s the middle of December, there aren’t any plants.
I remembered what I’d done in the tent, to keep the Amazon put. The roots had been random. Could I..?
-What do you need? I asked. Rachel gave me a list.
-Jason, you get a fire started, you’ll need kindling. I said. He nodded and darted off in the forest, coin in hand. He must’ve changed it back to a coin before they disarmed him.
I closed my eyes and visualised all the plants Rachel had told me. Some I hadn’t heard of before, like moon lace or Lethe lily pads, but I could visualise them in my head, whether they grew better in sun, ect. I visualised each one of the plants growing in the valley, near the campfire that very moment. I felt a tug in my stomach and lost consciousness.

Jason
By the time Nico and Thalia shadow-traveled back, carrying all the weapons the Amazons had taken, a fire was burning, boiling the plants Rachel had picked up, Piper was lying in a tent and Rachel was mixing her mystery-soup.
They filled us in on how they’d escaped, and we filled them in on the multiple plants growing all around. Night had fallen, and a few of the plants were glowing.
-Here, give her this when she wakes up. Nico said, tossing me Piper’s sword. I caught the hilt and put it down besides me. He looked tired. Shadow traveling must’ve taken a lot of energy.
-Do you think she can grow food? Thalia asked.
-Berry bushes maybe. I wouldn’t ask, especially if she falls uncouncient every time. I said.
-I think its only if she shadow-travels before. That was what it was like for Rick. Nico said.
Rachel poured the antidote in a water jug and gently poured some on Butch’s lip. Nearly strait away he sat up coughing.
-Aw, gross what was that? He asked.
-A Skorpio-venom antidote. She said.
-Are they gone? He asked scanning the camp for giant warrior-women.
-Yes.
-Oh, okay. He said. He collapsed back on the ground.
-He’ll be doing that a lot for the next 5 hours. Rachel specified.
-Oh great. Nico said. He yawned.
-I’m going to sleep. He said. He got up, picked Butch up by the arms and dragged him in a tent with him.
-You met the Amazons before? I asked Thalia.
- With the Hunters. Near winter solstice one year, we were on our own. Man that was wicked!
-Holy Hephaestus. Rachel said.
-It was a good day for girl power. Thalia agreed.
-Nico had the right idea. I’ll take the sword in the tent while I’m at it. Good… night. Thalia said chocking a yawn. She went in the same tent as Piper. Rachel was cleaning up and she shoved the remaining leaves and roots in her pockets.
-In case I have more healing to do. She said.
-Where did you learn to heal? I asked.
-You pick up a thing or two hanging with Apollo. Last summer, and since I came back from the city.
-Why did you come back? She took a deep breath.
-When Percy went missing, a lot of the campers did. It was like putting up a neon sign that read “Super bad villain that can get the most powerful demigod out there”, because we all determined Percy was the most powerful. Tied with Thalia at least. Anyways I’m an oracle; a lot of monsters don’t like quests because they make things work at camp. I give out quests; take me away and for a while, until a new oracle shows up, no quests. I may not have a scent, but monsters are still a threat. I felt threatened and came to camp. She explained.
-So camp is just, go when you want to? She nodded.
-Camp is the greatest thing that happened to me in so many ways. Rachel said. She yawned.
-See you tomorrow. And turn off the fire when you go to bed. She said going to the girl’s tent.
-Yeah. I said. I starred at the fire. It had dimmed a lot. I separated the wood with a stick until only a few coals lit the darkness.
-It’s hard to keep a fire going; you’ve done a good job. Somebody said behind me. I turned. A nine year old girl wearing a simple brown dress. Her eyes glowed like the coals in the fire pit.
-If I can permit myself, you might want to move that one a little more into the pit. She said. She took the stick from my hands gently and pushed the coal inwards. She sat down, the stick on her lap looking at the dying fire.
-Umm… Who are you? I said figuring she was either a goddess or a monster. I felt my hand grab my coin.
-I am Hestia. You’ll know me as Vesta I think. I nodded.
-I like Roman names. They’re cute. She said.
-Umm, excuse me, Lady Hestia, why are you here? I asked.
-I’m here because I know you’ve forgotten your hearth. You’ve forgotten where you’re from. She said sadly.
-Yes and believe me, it was a total accident! I said.
-I know. I can’t bring back the memories,
-You can’t?
-My power doesn’t extend to that. I thought you could use some help. She said.
-Help?
-Yes. I can’t bring back Perseus Jackson, Ariadne Namakwa or Adahy Ross, but I always thought campfires were wonderful for story telling. She told me stories about Percy Jackson. She told me of his first quest, of his leadership in the war. She was a great storyteller; making me shiver at times and hate the bad guy, then feel sorry for him. She described the scenes with just enough detail.
-Lady Hestia, can you tell me my story? I asked. She smiled.
-Your path is long Jason, and it will become nothing but longer. Just remember, there is always someone out there who knows what you’ve been threw and can lend a hand. That’s all you learned that you need to know. She got up and brushed the dirt off her dress. She had soot on her cheeks and nose.
-You will find you have a good meal in your bags. She said. She turned but stopped.
-Oh, before I forget, Piper’s favourite flowers are Lilies. She smiled and left in the woods, leaving me and a hump of coals in the dark.

The man was shaking the young girl’s shoulders.
-Girl, girl, wake up. He said. She didn’t move.
I saw her shirt was burgundy; she was wearing jeans and sneakers that had once been white. Her hairline had more blood; I knew she was in bad shape. I also noticed the boy wasn’t there. Where was he?
My answer came when I heard metal hinged open. He was pushed in the room. He knocked himself on the wall and fell to his knees, still wearing a straitjacket.
-Don’t try anything else. That goes for you too, old man. I heard a voice. The door closed again.
-Percy, Percy, how’s it going? He asked. The boy looked up. His eyes weren’t green. They were blue leaning on grey, with no pupil.
-Who’s Percy, I’m not Percy. He said.
-You are, you are! You wanted to bring me to… Ah Styx, you wanted to bring me somewhere.
-I don’t know you. Why would I bring you somewhere? The boy asked.
-No, you can’t forget! Remember, you were telling me about, gods, what’s her name… Annabel? You were telling me about Annabel.
-Don’t know any Annabel. Sorry, man, you’ve got the wrong kid.
-I don’t! Her name is Annabel- Annabeth! That’s it, her name is Annabeth Chase, her mother is Athena, you know her since you’re 12, she’s been your girlfriend since summer, she wants to be an architect and she’s rebuilding mount Olympus! Percy’s eyes suddenly turned green, all trace of blue gone.
-Annabeth. And Grover, and Rachel and… We’ve got to get out of here.
****

The next morning when I woke up I remembered having a dream that must’ve been important. I couldn’t remember what it was. This amnesia thing was starting to get excruciatingly annoying. Nico and Butch were still sleeping; I figured it must’ve been about 5 in the morning. I got up and left the tent.

Piper was already up. She was kneeling next to a fire she must’ve started, pushing branches in with the stick. She didn’t look like she’d slept that great.
-Hey. I said sitting next to her. I could see Hestia’s footsteps trailing off in the woods.
-Hi. She said. She looked nervous.
-What’s wrong? I asked.
-I had another dream. She said. She told me that she kept seeing her father in a jail cell just sitting in a corner, skinny and pale, with a gash on his shoulder.
-It feels pathetic, she said, having nightmares. Like a child scared of the dark.
-You heard what they said at Clare’s house. They’re like… podcasts I guess. They tell you stuff. More then a nightmare. I said. She nodded.
-Umm, at Wilderness, Leo said something about your dad being really important. He didn’t say what.
-Oh. My dad is a famous story-writer. Hermes is the god of language I guess… He writes them under the fake name “Rick Rosary”. He makes best-seller lists, won awards and all that. I didn’t know why he wrote under a fake name. To keep monsters from tracing him at first. The kids at school are all obsessed with his books. She said.
-Oh. I didn’t know Hermes was the god of language.
-Most people put it under Apollo, because writing is considered an art. Piper said. It was silent again.
-Do you have any jars or anything? Piper asked. I frowned.
-No, why? I asked. She cautiously slipper her hand in her jacket pocket and took out a blueberry bush, so small it fitted in her palm.
-I tried the growing thing again. I was thinking about doing something small, and, well, this is how it ended up.
-That’s the smallest bush I’ve ever seen.
-I can make it grow taller, and get berries too, she said. It fixes the food problem, doesn’t it?
-It wasn’t a problem. I told her about my meeting with Hestia. I included the story, thought form my mouth the story didn’t sound so heroic or amazing…
Anyways the 4 others had woken up and we’d decided to leave the woods right now, according to Thalia the Amazons would start waking up from yesterday’s events today.
-What did you end up doing to them?
-A various assortment of lightning bolts, arrows and sword strikes. Nico answered. I decided to leave it at that.
They were all surprised to find plastic containers with pancakes, toast and bacon in them, much less warm food. Piper and I played dumb. After they were sure the food wasn’t poisoned we all ate well. A good breakfast was what we needed, next up was a shower: nobody but Piper smelled like flowers.

-Anyone want toast? Piper asked. Nico offered.
-You don’t want it? Thalia asked.
-I get allergic reactions when I eat too much wheat and cereal.

I got on a Pegasus with Rachel today. The Pegasi took off and I felt her holding onto my shoulders tighter.
Flying on a Pegasi is maybe the most awesome thing to do.
The wind is bowing in your face, you can see all the big imposing things on earth, reduced to the size of Lego structures if you’re low enough, and I will not even start about clouds (sadly we need to stay beneath them for Rachel to see the trail). Not as good as unassisted flying, but good enough.
-There! Rachel yelled over the wind. The Pegasi descended and we landed on a cliff, overlooking the ocean. We all hopped off.
-This is it? I asked, my heart beating fast with excitement.
-I don’t know. Rachel said. She seemed genuinely confused.
-What do you mean you don’t know?
-The trail ends! It doesn’t seem bright enough for it to end here. Rachel said. She seemed close to tears of frustration.
-It’s cool Rache, we’ll figure it out. Butch said squeezing her shoulder. Thalia wandered to the edge of the cliff and peaked down.
-He couldn’t be in there, could he? She asked.
-It would be pure madness to keep the guy in water. Nico said shaking his head.
-Where are we anyways? Piper asked.
-Halifax, Canada. I answered. I peaked at the edge of the cliff myself.
-What now? Piper asked after a minute or so of silence.
-Maybe the trail goes on across the sea. Butch suggested.
-Across the Atlantic? I doubt it. We couldn’t go there by Pegasus anyways. I said.
-Could… Could Hecate have planted a false trail? Butch asked.
-Why’d she have done that? We’re trying to find one of her daughters after all. I said.
-Besides, she only amplified it. Rachel said. She plopped down on the ground and buried her face in her knees.
-Common Rache, its fine, we’ll figure it out. Butch said, gently tapping her shoulder.
-I know. Rachel said, showing her face again. Tear-free, she was just frustrated. I glanced up at the sky and saw Thalia doing the same.
-Please. We need help. I whispered. Nothing. Nothing but grey waves crashing on the frozen-over shore. I don’t know if it was just me, but it started smelling a little like ozone. A woman was suddenly wandering on the beach bellow us. I couldn’t see her clearly, but an energy was coming form her.
-No way. I whispered.
-What? What? Thalia asked. I grabbed her fist and jumped off the cliff. She screamed but we were caught by a wind and dropped a couple of feet in front of the woman.
The woman was long and lean. Her hair was long, golden brown packed behind her head, some strands beaded with terra-cotta beads. She was wearing beige pants and a white blouse, pulled up to her elbows and huge golden rings hung from her ears. A sandy book-bag was swung over her shoulder, filled with a notebook and books about geology. She looked like what I imagined a scientist working in the field was.
-Hello son of Boreas. Daughter of Zeus. She said.

I am the Ghost whisperer
Leo
Mr D had threatened to turn all of us into shrubs if we stepped foot in the forges ever again after a small near-fatal fire, so we decided to stay low for the day. The cabin was too small for all of us, so the bigger and older guys got to work.
That didn’t count me.
I went to the beach. Something about the pearly waves, rolling in and out of the shore attracted me. I got there and someone else was already sitting on a rock. It was Annabeth Chase.
Her hair was blowing in the breeze and she was clutching her Camp Half-Blood necklace. There were 10 beads hanging on it. She looked worried and her eyes were nearly the exact shade of the sea. I sat down besides her.
-Hi. I said. She turned to see me, like she realised my presence for the first time.
-Oh, hi. She said.
-What are you doing here? She asked. Her tone was more “what are you upset about?”
-I’m dreaming of this place. I said. You? She looked at me.
-I’ve been at this place so much the past summer-year. If he comes back on his own it’ll be by here. She said, a determined fire burning in her eyes.
-What are you dreaming about?
I don’t know why but I told her about Isadora James, the way she’s looked terrified in the cabin and on the beach. Annabeth averted her eyes back to the beach.
-I heard that story. Hadn’t realised you guys didn’t even sleep in that bunk.
-Do you know who killed her? Jake didn’t but…
-I remember something about one of my brothers-Marc, having investigated the place. She said there wasn’t a big enough amount of blood to prove that she’d been dead before taken.
-So she might not have been killed? I asked.
-Yes, but the body Hephaestus built her aged. She’d be dead by now anyways. She said, guessing my thoughts.
-You’re right. She looked back at the sea.
-Umm, I never really got to thank you for getting us out of Wilderness. She looked surprised.
-Oh, well, you’re welcome. I’m sorry I wasn’t really… I’m sorry I was pretty nasty to you guys that day.
-No problem. I said.
-Do you know who send you the dream? I asked.
-I’m not sure. It wasn’t my mother, and it wasn’t a god, I can tell. She said. Annabeth got up and walked down the beach. I starred back at the sandy shore.
I could practically see the letters being traced in the damp sand. I-S-A-D-O-R-A. Wait a minute, they were appearing! I rushed to the spot. Nobody was around to do it. What the Hades? I figured it must be a joke from somebody. Either Jake or someone from Hermes cabin had been spying on us. I left the beach.

Entertainment was provided waiting for supper when Gregory Stew sat on Jake’s stick-chair. Watching him run around the cabin asking for help was very entertaining. Finally he went outside to ask for someone to smash it. The big girl who picked on everyone – Clarisse- was happy to smash it, except she accidently got not only the chair, but Greg too.
We were still laughing when the conch horns blew.

At dinner I sat between Forge Thompson and Sally Havens, who were arguing over a bet.
-You owe me 5 drachmas; someone was stupid enough to sit on the thing! Sally said.
-I said a girl would sit on it, Greg’s not a girl.
-That wasn’t the deal!
And etc, etc, for another 10 minutes until Sally turned to talk to Lise. Finally! The whole cabin was annoyed by that argument. Jake looked like he’d regretted he built the thing in the first place, a bit.
They’re siblings, they fight. A voice said.
I jumped and looked around. I recognised that voice. I wasn’t supposed to hear it. Not now.
I searched the room frantically. Campers were talking amongst each other. Hermes had some sort of fire work display going on, Athena were looking at a blueprint Annabeth was showing them, and Aphrodite kids were gossiping. Normal. I must’ve been imagining things.
You’re not. I froze and must’ve paled a bit.
-What’s wrong Leo? Jake asked.
-You look like you’ve seen a ghost. Forge added.

Not seen a ghost, heard.

Piper
Nico and I shadow-traveled to where Jason and Thalia were, Butch and Rachel ran behind. They were talking to the woman.
-Guys, this is Gaia, goddess of earth. Thalia said. We all bowed, question of not offending any gods.
-Son of Iris, Oracle of Delphi, and two children of the Underworld. She said.
I hated how every single person who named us put Nico and me in the same category. “Underworld Children”, Persephone was more then that! A pet peeves, I guess. Anyways, I held my tongue. The myths about Gaia came back in my mind. She was the grand-mother of all the gods. A kind of “mother earth”. Okay, knew what I was dealing with.
-Lady Gaia… Jason started.
-Most people refer to me as “mother Gaia”. I am what “mother earth” was based off, you know.
-Umm, mother Gaia, then, we are honoured by your presence, but why are you here? Surely you are busy. Jason said. He had tact talking to gods.
-Am I not allowed to help on a quest involving family? She asked.
-Help? Butch asked.
-Umm, I suppose. My father doesn’t keep you from helping?
-Oh, Zeus has more important things to do in the moment then monitor all of us, Gaia said.
-Help? Butch repeated.
-Well, yes. Actually, it’s more of a trade. Gaia said.
-A trade?
-Yes. I need a magical item. If you can get that item to me, I can transport you to any location on this planet and back to camp with your friends.
Our jaws all dropped. That was heck of a deal!
So the price to pay must be equal…

-What item? Thalia asked suspiciously.
-The necklace of Harmonia. Gaia answered.
-Can you excuse us for a minute? Nico asked. He pushed us a little back and we huddled up.
-What necklace of Harmonia? Jason asked.
-It was a wedding gift to Harmonia from Hephaestus, except it was cursed. Its owner has eternal bad luck. I don’t see why Gaia would want it. Thalia said.
-And camp wants it. That’s what the original quest was for, right? I said.
-Why would you want that necklace, do? Butch asked. None of us had an answer.
-Okay, even if we do go for this, where do we find the necklace? Rachel said.
-Nobody knows! It’s been lost in time, stolen form mortal to mortal. It’s untraceable. Thalia said. We turned to look at her.
-What? They say that story at the camp fire all the time! She said.
-We can’t promise a goddess something we don’t have a chance at finding. Jason said.
-Actually, we do. I spoke up. All gazes shifted to me.
-What are you talking about? Jason asked.
-Well, Percy, Ria and you were going to find the necklace weren’t you?
-Supposedly.
-Which means you had a faint idea where it was. That might be where you got imprisoned, too close to the necklace. I said.
-It’s still a waste of time; we don’t know what’ll happen to the others in the mean time. Thalia said. I thought about my father.
-You’re right. I said. The other approved.
-Okay, next good question: how do we break it to Gaia? She’s supposed to be nice and all, but gods get set off easily. Nico said, worried.
-Jason should tell her. Rachel said.
-What? He said.
-You’ve got a knack at talking to gods. They seem to like you for some reason. Rachel said.
-But…
-Rachel’s not a demigod, Piper’s new, I, well, gods are like Pegasi, they don’t like me, Thalia and Butch, well… You’re the best choice we have! Nico said.
-Fine. How do I tell her? Jason said. We had no answer.
-Smile and be gentle. Thalia said.
-Talent at prep talks. I whispered to Nico as he left.
-It worked. He said.
-Umm, mother Gaia, we’re sorry but we can’t find the magic item you request. He said. Gaia lifted an eyebrow and crossed her arms.
-We’re sorry, but we don’t know where to find the necklace. Have a nice day. He said. He turned his back on Gaia, but his two feet were stuck in the sand.
-I can’t let you going around spreading rumours of what I am looking for, now can I? Gaia asked softly.
-No! Thalia hissed. We drew our weapons but we couldn’t move, our feet were stuck too.
-You’re used to memory loss already, aren’t you Boread? She said softly. A hunting knife zoomed past my ear and it would’ve nailed Gaia if a pillar of rock and sand wouldn’t have raised. The hunting knife sunk in the pillar.
Jason’s eyes were blank. Gaia’s burned with a dangerous fire. An arrow shot at Gaia. This time it hit her, but as if she were made of rock, the arrow didn’t sink in her skin.
-Unless those things are tipped with celestial bronze, it won’t hurt her! Nico yelled. Jason collapsed to the ground.
-NO! Jason! I yelled. I struggled to get my feet free. Gaia left Jason’s crumpled form alone and moved on to Rachel.
-No! No! This time, Rachel’s eyes stayed intact. She was trying to hit the goddess with a dagger she pulled out of her pocket. Gaia flicked her hand and it flung out of her hand.
-It won’t hurt, foolish mortal. It won’t erase all. She soothed.
-Who are you calling foolish Rock-face!? Rachel yelled.
-Trying to fit yourself in a world for warriors. Gaia said. Lightning crackled in the sky and shot down and hit Gaia, a skeleton warrior popped out of the sand and attacked. None of it hurt Gaia. I had to help, I had to do something! Maybe I could do the root-thing again. I thought of Gaia’s form completely covered in roots. Roots that she couldn’t break…
Sprouting out of the ground and squirming like some kind of worms, golden roots appeared.
Around her, around her, around her! I thought. The roots stopped squirming, straightened up and went for Gaia. Gaia snapped her fingers and, as if an electrical current went threw them, the roots straitened up and fell to the ground. I hit the ground at the same time and hit my head hard. Again.
A deafening roar, that sounded more like a hawk, sounded. Gaia roared in frustration.
-Oh, I hate when she does that! She said. Thalia gasped. I looked were she was looking. A giant golden serpent was flying over the buildings, twisting in the air. On its back was a giant man with 3 arms on either side of his torso. I Figured I was hallucinating. His skin was grey like the sea, and he was wearing a blue chiton and sandals.
-ARGGHH! Gaia said before disappearing. We were still stuck, and Rachel collapsed.
-Duck! Nico yelled. But the thing swooped down and grabbed us all in his enormous bronze flaws. I couldn’t move. I saw the ocean, pearly grey below us.
-YAH! The giant (I figured it was the giant) yelled. Immediately we plunged into the depths of the cold sea…

You've still got a few chapters to go, about 8 I think...

Piper
I woke up and nearly had a heart attack.
A hammerhead shark swam over my head. I sprang up and drew my sword. I realised I was underwater! The room was lit by glowing pearls so strong I could see Jason, Thalia and the other lying on the ground. I had a bubble floating around my nose and mouth, I could breathe. Now that that was settled, I could worry about the shark. It swam at me menacingly.
-Tobias! A voice snapped. The others all sprang to life as the shark froze. They all had the same “OMG I’m under water!” moment before realising we were fine, as a woman stepped in the room.
Her black hair floated around her. From the waist up she wore Greek battle armour and the waist down she wore a white dress that clung to her legs. She had strange little horns on her head and jade green eyes, like her armour. A sword hung at her side, the scabbard made of hardened seaweed. She was beautiful. She was powerful and strong, a prized warrior, I could feel it.
The shark, Tobias, cuddled around her legs like a cat.
-You don’t attack Perseus; you don’t attack any other demigods! She told him sternly. He whimpered and cowered behind her legs. She looked back at us.
-Hello demigods. I’m glad to see you’re alive. Triton didn’t mess up the air bubbles I presume, seeing you are all alive, she said. I am Amphitrite, goddess of the sea.
-Umm, hi. I’m Jason, son of Boreas and she’s…
-I won’t pretend I don’t know you all. Amphitrite said calmly.
-I also know what you’re after. Her gaze was piercing.
-I’m sure my Lord, Poseidon, would be happy to speak to you all, you especially Boread, but right now he’s in Olympus. Therefore, you get me. She starred at all of us, one by one.
-Why were you at Halifax? Amphitrite asked.
-The trail leaded there, milady. Rachel said.
-Why did you not continue?
-The trail ended. I said. Didn’t she say she wasn’t going to play dumb? Or had she just missed that bit.
-But neither Percy or Ariadne or Piper’s dad were in Halifax, I know it. Rachel said.
-And who may your father be, child of Persephone? She asked.
-Adahy Ross, son of Hermes. I said.
-Adahy Ross. I remember him. She said softly.
-Do you have any idea why the trail was false? She asked.
-No. We said. I had a feeling she knew.
-I’ll give you a hint; you are following the wrong trail.
-What?! We all said, nearly at the same time.
-What tells you that he came from Halifax? That you’re tracing the trail backwards?
-It means… Oh Styx. Thalia said.
-You understand something?
-You came back from camp the day before the quest got called, right?
-Yes, why?
-Because that day, there was an aerial block for the Hunters, near Nevada! To go to camp, you had to go north and pass by Canada. Once you got to Halifax you could head down to New York! Thalia said.
-So all we did was follow how Jason went to camp? I said. Thalia nodded.
-But, why did we lose the trail? Rachel asked.
-I believe it was Gaia who erased it, to get your attention. She probably doesn’t realise how much of a favour she granted you. Speaking of which. Amphitrite took a hunting knife wrapped in leather from behind her back and handed it to Thalia.
-Do not be so quick to separate from your weapons Daughter of Zeus. She said sternly.
-Yes ma’am. Thalia said putting the knife back in its scabbard.
-But… I don’t understand. The trail started at Adonis elementary. It would’ve lead to where Jason came from. Rachel said.
-I think that Hecate lit up both trails. At some point, they must’ve crossed over and you, oracle, must have only seen one. Either you crossed over to the wrong side, or you were on the wrong path from the start.
-Well then we have to go back. Start over. Nico said.
-How long have we been here? I asked Amphitrite.
-You were uncouncient for a while. I should’ve told the Gegeness to be gentler.
-The what? Jason asked.
-A race of 6-armed giants, descendant from Poseidon. Live somewhere in the Sea of Monsters. Thalia said.
-Correct. The goddess approved.
-How long do you mean by “a while”? I asked.
-2 days.
-It’s been 5 days. Rachel said. The feeling weighed over us.
The one shot we had at finding them, the one shot…
-Could you..? Thalia started.
-I’m afraid not. It’s gone. Amphitrite said.
I felt tears stinging my eyes. How were we going to find the others and my Dad now?
-It’s not over. Jason said. We turned to look at him.
-Mortals might’ve seen something; Ariadne and Percy at least could be in some mortal hospital without memory. Thalia said, her pep talk showed just how much of a leader she was.
-There are still ways to find them. They’re still out there! Jason said.
-Jason’s right. Mortals might’ve found them. Heck, maybe there’s some kind of device that can find them! Thalia said. Jason gasped. His eyes widened.
-That’s it! That’s it! He said.
-What? What? I asked.
-Butch, can you send an Iris message from down here? He said.
-Of course. He said.
-Lady Amphitrite, thank you so much for your help. Rescuing us from Gaia, the shelter, everything. Is there a way to get to the camp half-blood beach, fast? Jason asked.
-My son can lead you there. Amphitrite said.
-Jason, slow down, what is it? I said, grabbing his arm. He turned to me. His eyes lightened by a determined fire, as excited as a child on Christmas morning.
-I know how to find your dad. He said.

Leo
Isadora James was writing in the sand again. This time there was nobody around us, as if the camp was deserted. It scared me a little bit, but I was excited. She was wearing armour, like every time I dreamt of her.
I… Am… Where… They… Are
She wrote.
-They? What’s “They”? I asked. She bent down again.
-Leo! Leo! Leo! I heard someone say. I woke up.
I’d fallen asleep under a tree, near the forges exit. No wonder, I’d had nightmares about Isadora James popping up behind me in the Forge, or sitting between Lise and Sally at meals… I’d slept about as well as if an amplifier playing heavy metal had been stuck under my pillow.
Anyways I looked around. That voice sounded like Jason. And I saw the Iris message. Butch and Jason, with some king of bubbles on their faces, were standing in front of what looked like an Ancient Greek temple except blue Mer-people with glow-in the dark eyes and fish were swimming around them.
-Oh my gods, Jason! You’re underwater! What’s wrong? How’s Lily? Is anybody…
-Leo, chill. We’re all fine, nobody’s dead. But we need your help, and Annabeth’s. Can you get her to see the Iris message? And Chiron.
-Umm, I’ll go find them, how much time d’you got?
-Unlimited. Butch said.
-Cool, and why are you underwater?
-Leo, doesn’t matter, go! Jason said.
-Right!
I knew where to find Annabeth. I took off, sprinting as fast as I can. I kicked sand until I was on the beach. I looked around. She wasn’t there. I sprinted off to the big house. I opened the door and burst in the parlour. Chiron and Mr D were playing pinochle.
-Chiron, I got an IM. I said.
-From the quest party? He asked.
-Yes, they want to see you and Annabeth and me. Iris message is waiting by the forges. I said panting. I’m not sure how much she got.
-Annabeth is presently at Olympus, supervising the building of an archway. But come on Leo, let’s go. He plucked me off the ground, hauled me on his back and galloped off towards the forges.

After listening to the plan, I was speechless.

-Think you can do it man? Jason asked.
-Umm, why not Jake? He’s more experienced.
-You can do it, Leo. Annabeth will be there too.
-Okay then. I’ll go get Laurel.
-And I’ll send an Iris-message to Annabeth; you should stop by Olympus and pick her up. Chiron said.
-Not so fast. A voice said from behind. There were weird sounds between what a dying chicken would sound like and a grumble from behind us. I drew my sword and turned around.

Jason
We lost contact with camp.
-Butch, what happened?
-They cut the connection themselves. Something’s wrong at camp. Butch said, pale.
-Jason, Butch, common! Thalia said. A current collected us and brought us towards the others, where Amphitrite and her son Triton were waiting.

Triton had black hair, falling on his shoulder, jade green eyes, green skin, two green fish tails and he looked at Piper funny. All of that to say, I didn’t like him.
-Thank you for everything Lady Amphitrite. I said, bowing my head.
-Your welcome. Daughter of Zeus, you seem… disturbed. She said looking at Thalia.
-I… I didn’t think you’d help us. I mean, Percy being your step-son. She said blushing.
-Daughter of Zeus, the experience you have of step-mothers is my wonderful in-law, Hera. It’s hardly fare to base what you know on her. I admit, Theseus and Polyphemus are just plain annoying, but Perseus Jackson, you can learn to like with him. You best be on your way now. Triton, you know where they are going?
-I heard the message, mother. Triton said. He had a conch horn in his hand and a spear in the other. He turned his spear and a current took us.
The feeling was like when Piper shadow-traveled us. Like your face was peeling off. Triton looked just fine, but even Nico and Piper looked shaky. Before I knew it, we were in a dark and smelly corridor. The water in it was unbelievably disgusting from what I could see, but when Triton swam in, it became crystal clear.
-Please don’t tell me we are where I think we are? Rachel said
-And where would that be? Nico asked.
-The sewers of New York City. I can travel to any water source, no matter how polluted. Triton said.
-Wait, how far are we from Olympus? Piper asked.
- As close as I can get you. Farewell. He made a move to leave but turned back.
-When you see my brother, tell him he owes me 10 drachmas. Triton said. He twirled his spear and disappeared.
-Why would Percy owe a god 10 drachmas? I asked.
-Its his brother, he probably lost a bet. Butch shrugged.
-That doesn’t matter, how do we get out of here? Thalia said.
-There has to be a ladder to get up to there. Rachel said pointing upwards.
-Jason can fly. Butch said.
-No winds down here. Jason said, shaking his head.
-Shadow travel? Piper said.
-Into the lobby of the Empire state building. Nico said. He took Rachel and I by the arm and disappeared.

When the 3 others got here, I was already arguing with the security guard.
-600th floor. I insisted.
-No such thing kid.
-This is an emergency! We need to get Annabeth Chase back to camp.
-I don’t know no Annabeth Chase, and there’s no such thing as the 600th floor, go along.
-Man, common, stop bluffing, I’m a demigod, not a monster. Thalia walked up besides me and pushed me out of the way.
-Dude, you know me don’t you?
-Umm… Yes Miss Zeus’ kid.
-Good, then you’ll grant us the elevator? He handed us a passkey and Thalia tossed him a coin.
-Common guys. She said. She got us in the elevator, and closed the door on a mortal woman that looked pretty offended.
-How do you do that? I asked.
-My father’s king of the gods. I’m practically royalty, here, not that it impresses anybody but him. She said.
The ride was forever, the bad music made it longer. Butch and I filled them in about how we’d lost connection.
-That’s not good. That’s not good at all. Rachel said, her eyes wide as plates.
-No, it’s not. What did you say the sound was again? Nico asked.
-Half dying-chicken, half grumble. Thalia, Nico and Rachel paled.
-The Harpies. They all said, nearly at once.
-What?
-They clean up each summer and for Mr D. Nico explained.
-They’re sisters of Iris. They look like demoniacal chicken/old lady cross with talons. Butch said.
-Nasty things. No offence. Nico said.
-None taken. Indigo, Tory and Saffy should be oaky to deal with them. Oh look it’s our floor! Butch said. The door dinged open and we stepped out onto Olympus.
I’m sure it would’ve been a beautiful place, it still was. The sky was so blue it nearly hurt your eyes. The place was pretty empty. It had a few tents set up here and there and make shift forges too. Right now an archway was being built. It was so wide that there was no way around it if you wanted in. It was made of the same beige-white stone as the temples still existing in Greece and carved on it were about 50 names in Ancient Greece and 12 faces. The faces of the Olympians. It was beautiful.
Cyclops were putting the final touches to it, fixing imperfections, and putting the final blocs on the top of the archway. On the ground, holding a blueprint and telling builders were to put what, was Annabeth.
-Annabeth! Thalia said. She spun around. Her hair was tied up. She had a knife strapped to her arm and a Yankees base-ball cap tucked in her pocket.
-You’re okay! Oh my gods did you find them?
-No, that’s why we need your help, at camp. Jason’ll explain. Nico said.
-How did you get here? I asked.
-By Pegasus, why?
-Great, we can leave now; Leo and Chiron are waiting for us. You’ll meat us there? I asked the others. They nodded. Annabeth, confused, grabbed a jean bag, stuffed the blueprints inside and said something to the Cyclops in Ancient Greek, too fast for me to catch.
-Let’s go, Blackjack’s with the other Pegasi. She sprinted off further into Olympus and I followed.
The place looked like it had, once upon a time, been beautiful, but most of the buildings were thrashed and had crumbled. I followed her near a clearing where 14 Pegasi were waiting, their coats white as linen or pearly grey, one being entirely black.
-Blackjack, we need to get back to camp, stat. Annabeth said, mounting the Pegasi. I hopped on behind her and held on to her shoulders. She steered the Pegasi away from the rest but he wouldn’t follow.
-Oh for Nike’s sake Blackjack, stop flirting, I’ll take you next time too. At that he steered himself away from the others and took off.
The ride was short, about 20 minutes. We flew above camp and I saw things not going well. Torches were burning and I could see people fighting what fit Butch’s description of harpies. I had time to tell Annabeth about my plan.
-You think you can do it? I asked.
-Probably. I just need something that belongs to Percy, something that belongs to Ria and something that belongs to Adahy Ross, which shouldn’t be hard to get. She said.
We landed near the cabin, so far away from the fight, which was happening near the original 12 cabins. Leo was already there.
-Chiron’s at the battle, so is Laurel but she’s fine. I’ve got my tools. He said as soon as we reached the door.
The cabin looked just as it had before I left. I pressed on the crack on the back wall, it revealed the handle. Annabeth was patting the wall, her eyebrows scrunched up. She finally found what she was looking for. She pressed her thumb to a spot, and a coin slot appeared. She took out a drachma and pushed it in. A golden ladder dropped from the ceiling.
-Follow me. She told Leo. She climbed the ladder and instead of stopping at the ceiling, passed right threw it. I heard an explosion from the battlefield. I drew my sword but Leo caught my arm.
-Don’t. We’ll be done in a couple of minutes, then you’re off again. He said, before climbing up after Annabeth.
About 5 minutes of weird sounds from above, the rest of the quest party arrived.
-Tell us what your plan is before we go! Thalia said.
-The compass there, it points you to the right direction of a place, like my dad’s place, or Olympus. If Annabeth and Leo change it, they should be able to get it to show us where they are being held. I said.
-Jason that’s genius! Piper said. She hugged me. Another explosion shook the night and she let go.
-Jason? Annabeth asked from the ceiling. Her voice was distant, like she was talking to me from the inside of a cave.
-Yes? I shouted back.
-The compass works by finding anything that has common molecules with the object in it. We need you to go to Cabin 3 and grab anything you can find that might have Percy’s DNA on it.
-What?
-A brush with hair on it, a helmet anything. Get something from Ariadne too.
-What about Adahy? Thalia asked.
-We’ll have to hope that he’s with them.
-Something from him would make the compass more powerful. Leo said.
-Wait, Piper isn’t really anything like Persephone; if she’s more like her dad, couldn’t we just use something form her? Nico said.
-That would screw up the signal since she’s right here! Leo said.
-Not necessarily. Fine, grab some of her hair too. Annabeth said.
-I’ll go; I know where Percy keeps his stuff. Nico said, sprinting off into the dark.
-I know where Hecate’s cabin is. Thalia said, taking off as well. Piper grabbed her hair and ripped a few of them out.
-Piper, climb up the ladder and stick your hand threw the ceiling, I’ll take your hair from you. Annabeth said. Obviously this confused her, but Piper did it.
-That’s cool! Your ceiling has no constancy! Piper said. There was a series of weird cackling sounds. I gripped my sword tighter and faced the door. Rachel had her bow, an arrow notched and aimed at the door in hand and Butch and Piper had drawn their swords.
6 Harpies immediately jumped in. They knocked me over, my sword flew out of my hands, and 3 had me pinned. Piper and Butch were each fighting one and Rachel had perched herself on the top of a bunk and was shooting. She managed to get 3, but 6 more came.
I pushed against the ones that were on me, but they sunk their talons deeper in my face. I was pinned for good, which didn’t mean I’d stop fighting.
Rachel had run out of arrows and she’d picked up my sword. 5 of the creatures had snuck to behind a bunk and pushed it.
-NO! I yelled as it fell. But someone pushed Rachel out of the way. She skidded just inches form the fallen bunk.
-BUTCH! She yelled. Butch wasn’t moving. The top bar of the bunk had landed where the middle of his ribcage was.
And Rachel Elizabeth Dare got mad.
She swung my sword and took out half of them, picked up a sword from the body of one and stabbed another. Together, Piper and she took them all out, finishing by the ones who wouldn’t budge form on me. Piper helped me up and we ran for Butch. Rachel, Thalia and Nico were trying to move the bunk. Piper and I helped and it slid off Butch. Rachel dropped on her knees besides him and cradled his head in her lap. He woke up.
-Butch! Rachel said. Tears were gleaming in the corners of her eyes.
-How are you feeling? Nico asked kneeling besides Rachel.
-Lousy. He said.
-Butch, you saved me. Rachel whispered. Butch tried at a smile but it turned wrong. He winced in pain.
-You’re okay? He asked.
-I’m fine. She said. She passed her fingers near where the bunk had fallen. I could tell she knew what was wrong with him and she didn’t like it.
-Anybody have nectar? She asked. Thalia took a jug out. Rachel tried to pour some in Butch’s mouth but he pushed the jug away with a weak hand.
-Don’t. He said. He looked clammy and his eyelids looked tired. My heart felt like a troop of girl guides had used it to practise their knots.
-Butch, common. She said.
-Don’t waste it. He said, his voice weak. He laced his fingers around Rachel’s and smiled at her. Silent tears kept spilling from the corner of her piercing eyes.
-Tell Percy I said… Hi. Butch told me.
-You tell him. I said. He looked back at Rachel.
-I love you. She whispered.
-I… He stated, but his head fell back, his eyes closed. Rachel closed her eyes and bit her lip. Then sadness overpowered her and she sobbed, hiding her face in her hands. Piper was hanging on to my arm tight. I knew everybody else had the same feeling of grief and helplessness as me invading her body. None of us had even noticed that Leo and Annabeth had come down. Annabeth picked up the orange t-shirt and the dagger Thalia and Nico had brought back and stuffed the bundle in Leo’s hands.
-Go. She said. As Leo disappeared in the attic again, Annabeth knelt next to Rachel and let her sob in her shoulder. The corners of her eyes seemed damp too.
This must be the loss in the prophecy. It had to be. We’d lost a warrior.
I looked at Rachel and remembered what she’d told me, the night I met Hestia. “Camp is the greatest thing that happened to me in so many ways”.

This was one of them.

Apart from Rachel’s sobs, the whole cabin was silent. Until the needle of the compass turned and Leo dropped down.
-Let’s finish what we started. He said.

As I writter I like tweaking your emotions. I want to make you love a character and then take him out brutally, thus, emotions going from excitement, to tears (well, lets not exagerate)and back on with the excitement. Speaking of which...

Piper
Rachel made a move as if to get up.
-You’re not coming. You’re staying here. Most of the harpies are down, but if you want to go fight, you can. Thalia said.
-But, none of you can see a trail. She said.
-There are ways to detect demigod presences other then that. Annabeth said. Rachel didn’t protest. She tugged her bow closer to her and held it tight, her knuckles becoming white.
-Annabeth, do you mind if we take Blackjack? Nico asked. She looked up from Rachel. An understanding past between the two girl. Rachel nodded.
-I’ll take Blackjack. She said. She hugged Rachel and got up.
-I’m coming too. Leo decided. As we all got out of the cabin I looked back at Rachel. I’d had a feeling there was something going on between Butch and her. My chest tightened.
-Common. Jason whispered in my ear. He took my arm and gently steered me out of the room. The others already running for the woods, Jason grabbed my arm and ran as fast as he could, which is saying a lot, to catch up, dragging me with him.
Most demigods were down. A few were still standing. Katie, the bully girl, and Jason’s sister Laurel were still up and fighting. We passed them. Annabeth steered her way threw the wounded until she walked up to a satyr, who was tending to a wounded. After talking to him for a bit, they both ran back.
-Grover, like all satyrs, can smell demigod. He’s the first one to have found Percy as well as Ariadne. When something like that happens, they can smell them from quite a distant.
-Big 3 especially. I smelled Thalia for 2 years after finding her, no matter where I went.
-Geez, thanks. Let’s go. Thalia said.
We all hopped on the 4 Pegasi and took off.
Grover and Annabeth in the lead, me flying besides them (took up less Pegasi), we were flying in the direction given by the compass, North-West.
-Here! Grover yelled. The Pegasi dove towards the ground, followed by the other and me.
We were in front of a small cement bungalow. It looked abandoned. Snow had fallen heavily around us, everybody but Jason was shivering, me especially. I detest winter, and snow, since I’m little.
-Look at the windows. Annabeth said. There were bars on the windows.
-Something is fighting to keep someone in there. Leo said. He took a piece of gum out of his pocket and when he pulled back it grew into a spear. Thalia had a spear in hand as well.
-Where are we exactly? She asked.
-This is an abandoned pre-school, in Ottawa, the capital of Canada. Grover said.
-Pretty gloomy place to keep 5 year olds. I commented.
We approached the building, ready to fight. We got to the door. We all looked at each other. Thalia glanced inside the building.
-It splits into 3 hallways. We’re a big enough group to split up. Jason, Annabeth and I can go look that way, Nico and Piper that way, Leo and Grover, in the last one. Thalia said.
-Sounds like a plan. If anything happens scream. Annabeth said.
-Sounds good. I said. Except for the fact I was stuck with Di Angelo. Ah well. Nobody wanted to open the door. We didn’t know what would happen. I stepped forth and pushed it open. Nothing happened.
-That was dramatic. Leo said. He looked nervous.
-Let’s go. Luck everybody. Jason said. I stepped in first. The building’s inside was as grey as the outside. One pathetic child drawing of a flower was on the wall, but that was it. Doors lined the corridors. I took another step. Nico followed me. Jason took my arm.
-Be careful. He said. I hugged him.
-I will. I let go and followed Nico.
-They’ll be as far as the entrance as possible if they’re here. Nico said. I nodded. The corridor dead-ended. We opened the first door on the right. The room was a kind of trophy room. Examining the trophies in the glass cases, I noticed they were strangely… mortal. The trophies were of basketball tournaments, hockey championships and selling bees.
-This place must be used by mortals. Nico said.
-I don’t think so. I said. I slid the case open and touched the trophy. I immediately turned into the head of a Hydra. I backed off.
-Mist? He asked as I whipped the blood and slime on my jeans.
-I don’t think so. I think they are meant to transform like that.
-It’s magic. Nico said. I didn’t feel good.
-There’s nothing here. Let’s go. I said.
-Fine, but if we don’t find them we are coming back. Nico said.
We will find them. I thought as I agreed.
The next room was empty. We walked around trying to hit something invisible. The room was empty.
The next one was just as exciting.
The next was locked. We tried to shadow-travel inside, but couldn’t. We tried breaking down the door, but we couldn’t either. This place was creeping me out. The place was completely deserted. We hadn’t heard one voice, scream or even footsteps other then ourselves. We hadn’t met one monster yet. I knew everyone else was spooked as well. That’s why we weren’t calling out to each other.
-It can’t be locked for nothing. Nico said, just as frustrated as me. I knocked on the door.
-Hello? Anybody? I asked. Silence. Nico lay on his stomach and was looking under the door.
-There’s nothing on the floor. No feet, no furniture, nothing. Empty like the others.
-Well then why’s it locked? There could be a passage, or maybe the things are floating. I said.
-We can’t waste our time here. We’ll come back here. He said getting up. I agreed. The next room was unlocked. I gasped when I got in.
-I saw my dad in this room! Whoever was keeping them was interrogating him on the minor gods!
-Did you see her face? He asked.
-No. But from behind she looked a little like… Well… Like Hecate. I said. Nico looked puzzled.
-That’s impossible! Hecate helped us. It’s her daughter too.
-I know, that’s why I didn’t say anything!
-There’s nothing here, let’s go. Nico said.
-Wait! Look on the chair. I ran in the room. There was a scrap of paper on the chair. I picked it up and unscrunched it.
From my father’s handwriting I unscrambled something like:
Girl and boy in left corridor, girl requires IMMEDIATE medical attention!
-They’re in this corridor! They are here! I said overexcited. I sprinted out of the room and to the next door. It wouldn’t open.
-Oh I am sick of these things! I said. I took Leo’s comb out of my hair and put one of the branches inside and turned a few times, my ear pressed on the door. Finally it unclicked and I flung the door open.
There was a giant scorpion standing in the doorway.
-Skorpios! Nico said. I raised my sword and ran forwards. The beast’s sting came forwards but I blocked it with my sword. It was pushing against my blade and I knew I wasn’t going to last long. Nico came in and sliced the stinger off. The beast raised itself on its back legs (are they called legs for scorpions?) and dropped back. I jumped on its back and stuck the branch of the comb in a chink of the black armour. The beast fell on its side, me included (arachnid over demigod sadly). I pushed the corpse off.
-Do you know what movie this reminds me of? Nico said.
-Oh, shut up. I said. In the corner of the room, hidden in the shadows, I noticed a girl. I ran for her. She was about 13 and had long auburn hair that went about mid-neck. She was wearing a burgundy shirt and jeans, her hands handcuffed behind her back. Her hairline was sticky with blood.
-Ariadne! Nico said. He ran and knelt next to me. He handed me a dagger and I cut the chains. I flipped the girl to her back. Her eyes were closed, her mouth slightly opened, a fin stream of blood trickling out.
-Do you have any nectar? I asked Nico. He gave me a water bottle of what looked like apple cider. I ripped the bottom of my jeans and damped the cloth of the nectar. I pressed it on her head. Nothing. I poured some in her mouth. She stirred.
She coughed and her eyes opened. Black, like Hecate’s with the same oil-like movement.
-Nico? Is that you? She asked.
-I’m here, Ria. Nico said. He turned to me.
-Go get the others! He said. I sprinted out of the room. I ran into Thalia (literally) who caught herself on the wall.
-We heard someone…
-We found Ria! I interrupted. They sprinted into the room. I got up and went to find Grover and Leo.

Leo
-Leo, the room doesn’t smell like demigod. Grover insisted.
-There’s someone in there. I insisted, pulling at the knob. It was locked. I slipped a screwdriver out of my sleeve and took out the door handle. I kicked the door open.
I couldn’t believe what I was seeing, and I suddenly understood why I’d been having these dreams.
Crumpled in the corner of the room we’d just went in, was a girl. She had thin brown hair, an athletic figure and a scowl on her face. Her left fore-arm was missing, the wound clumsily and uncarefuly covered by some bloody gauze.
-Holly Hephaestus. I whispered. I kneeled next to her and shook her shoulders gently. Her chest was rising up and down: she was alive. I shook her gently.
-Isadora. Isadora, wake up. I said.
-Wait, you know that girl?
-I’ve had dreams.
-When you say “Isadora”, you mean Isadora James?
-Yes.
-Oh my gods, how is she still alive?
-I don’t know. I said. Her eyes opened slowly.
-Who..? She started.
-The Satyr is Grover Underwood. I’m Leo Valdez, son of Hephaestus. I whispered.
-What hap-pened? She asked sitting up, passing her hand threw her hair.
-You were kidnapped from camp.
-The Har-pies! It was the Har-pies, they did it! One acci-ccidently cut my arm off! I said.
-Most of the Harpies are dead right now, but that’s not important right now! Who was controlling the harpies? I asked.
-I… I don’t know. I’m-I’m sorry. She said. She was even prettier in person.
-It’s fine. Can you walk? I asked. She nodded and got to her feet.
-Owe, owe, numb foo-t. She said. I smirked. She followed us out of the room. Piper was there.
-Leo, Grover, you… Found a friend?
-Um yeah, Lily, this is Isadora James, Isadora, Lily.
-She’ll call me Lily from now on. Piper pouted. Anyways, we found Ria!
-Hecate’s daughter? Grover asked.
-Yes, come on. Piper said. She sprinted down the corridor and into the room. The girl that must’ve been Ariadne was sitting up, leaning on the wall and she looked close to tears.
-I’m sorry Annabeth, I really am, I don’t know where they are, I’ve been uncouncient nearly since we got here, sometimes I heard them, mostly I didn’t. She said.
-Don’t worry Ria, they’re in here somewhere. Common, get up. That’s it. Annabeth said. She turned to look at us, and looked puzzlingly at Isadora.
-Um, yes this is…
-Isadora Ja-James, you can call me Dora. Dora said.
-I’ll explain at camp. I said. Annabeth knew of course, and so did Thalia from the looks of it.
-Right, Ria, do you know if there are many more monsters in here? Thalia asked. Ria shook her head.
-I’m not sure. Not many. Most of them were harpies. They left tonight saying they had to help sisters or something.
-I thought there were a lot tonight. Nico said grimly.
-Meaning not many monsters are there. Jason said.
-What about magical protections Ria? Any of those? Piper asked.
-I should be able to disable them. She said.
-Are you sure?
-I’m nearly fully healed. She said. She patted her pockets.
-Oh my gods they took my wand. Okay, somebody’s going to get it. She said. She got to her feet.
-I know they took Riptide too.
-Riptide? I asked.
-Percy’s sword. Anaklusmos is its real name. Annabeth said.
-Okay, we’ll go back to where we were before. Try to find a black ballpoint pen and a wand. How does your wand look like, anyways? Jason said.
-It’s made out of holly, and it’s about this length. She said showing us the length that was about her fore-head to her chin.
-Okay. Dora, can you fight? Jason asked.
-My figh-ting arm’s fine. I don’t have any wea-pons on me. She said. I took a dagger from my pocket and handed it to her.
-Problem solved, I said. Let’s go.

We searched in silence. A cry of joy told me that Ria had found her wand and possibly the pen. Dora followed Grover and me.
-Guys, guys! I heard Annabeth yell. We all ran strait for their corridor. Jason was fighting with a lock. Thalia had her bow out, an arrow pointed at the door. Annabeth had her cap in one hand, her knife in another, ready to fight.
-We think this is it. Thalia said.
-But it’s locked.
-Let me. Piper said. She took my comb out of her hair and pinched out a dart. She put it in the lock and after a few seconds a “click” told us it’d unlocked.
-Ready? Thalia said.
-1… Nico said.
-2… Jason whispered.
-3! Annabeth said.
And we pushed open the door, weapons drawn.

Jason
-Percy! Annabeth yelled. A black haired boy was standing near a window shaking the bars, his back to us. She ran to his side and hugged him.
-Oh my gods Percy, you’re all right! She said. Percy didn’t do anything. He kept shaking the windows, not looking at anybody. Annabeth took a step back, puzzled.
-Percy? Nico asked.
-Annabeth, get back! Leo yelled.
-What? She asked.
-It’s not him, it’s an automaton, can’t you see! Leo yelled. Right on cue the doors shut. The automaton turned its neck completely, like an owl, until it was facing us. Its eyes were its only fault. It could’ve looked human; except for the fact its eyes had no pupils, and no iris. A big white space. Annabeth took another step back, and another.
An arrow shot past my ear and hit Percy strait in the chest. It didn’t plant himself in it. With a hollow, metallic CLANK it bounced off and hit the ground. Someone came right threw the wall and into the room. A girl that looked exactly like Ariadne Namakwa, her eyes covered by sunglasses.
-Oh my Gods that’s me! Ria said.
-It’s another one. Leo said.
-It’s like me. Dora said. We turned to look at her.
-What?
-It’s meant to l-ook human. A soul is-meant to go li-ve in it. Except thee-thee-se ones can’t be wea-kened.
-You mean Hephaestus made them? Nico asked.
-No, they aren’t of that quality. Leo said.
Another figure walked threw the wall. A Native American man, in his late 40s, with shoulder length black hair, streaked with a little grey, tied back. His eyes covered by sunglasses.
-Dad! Piper yelled. She took a step forwards but I grabbed her arm.
-It’s not him. I told her.
-How do you know?
-If it would be, he’d have said something by now, at least recognised you. I told her. Her eyes were full of pain. She wanted to go see her dad, hug him, talk to him, but she knew I was right.
Thalia shot an arrow that hit Ria’s double. The same CLANK sound echoed in the cell. None of the robots moved.
-What do we do? Thalia said.
-Nothing. I’m not up for starting hostilities with these things. Nico whispered.
-Neither am I. If we could just find a way to slip out, find Percy and Adahy, it would be fine. Annabeth said. Piper went from the door.
-It’s locked from the outside. She said. She stuck the pin inside.
-There’s a better way. Ria said. She stepped up to Piper and pointed her wand to the door.
- Anoichtó Lomora! She said. The door unclicked. Piper put her hand on it but took it back fast.

-Owe! It burnt me. She frowned. The metal started boiling and melting until there was no door.

-Shadow travel? Nico suggested. Piper nodded, waving her hand in the air. We separated into two groups and shadow traveled outside the door. Except it didn’t work, well not exactly anyways.

We were picking up speed and then we froze, engulfed in black, like a heavy curtain was falling on us. Chocking us...

-Nico, this normal? I asked.

-Umm, I’d like to say yes, but no. He said. I could feel him pushing forwards until we continued.

-What was that? Thalia asked Nico when we were back in the corridor.

-I… His knees bucked and he went down. I caught him.

-Where are the others? Grover asked.

-Still traveling probably. Annabeth said. She looked clammy and her eyebrows were raised.

-Not only Piper’s a secondary Underworld child, but she’s also a weaker shadow traveler. Nico got threw the barrier or whatever you want to call it, but Piper… She said.

I looked nervously at the wall. Piper was still somewhere in the shadows. Leo was with her, and Ria, and Dora. Could you stay lost in shadows forever?

-What was that? Grover asked.

-It felt as if we were fighting against a wind or flies in amber. Annabeth said.

-There must be a block. They knew Underworld children would be coming. I said.

-Either way, nobody’s shadow-traveling tonight. It already takes the kid a lot of energy, and he’s been doing this for at least 2 years. Piper’s been doing it for a week. Thalia said.

We waited. And waited. They didn’t come.

-Do we move on? Thalia asked.

-We can’t leave Nico alone, and somebody needs to wait for them. Annabeth said.

-I’ll wait. Nico can stay here. I offered.
-No, you’re a better more valuable warrior then me. Go. Grover said. I didn’t want to go, but I followed the two girls as we drifted into another corridor, taking me to where they’d stopped looking.
-Is it just me that has the feeling that if this were a prison there would me more guards? Thalia asked.
-No.
-Good.
-What were those things, in the room? Annabeth asked. I knew it’d shaken her. For a split-second she thought it was over, just for a split-second.
-Automatons. I said. Thalia shook her head.
-Automatons have minds of their own, or are programmed to at specific times. They wouldn’t attack us. Almost like they were…
-Waiting. Waiting for instructions. I said. Thalia nodded.
-Dora said they were built like her. Annabeth said.
-She’s a demigod isn’t she? I asked. They catched me up on her story.
-Somebody is building empty shells of people then. To put souls in after? I asked.
-That means that they were expecting to kill Ria, Adahy and Percy. Annabeth said, pale.
-They’re still alive, Annabeth, Nico would’ve said. Thalia said.
The room we went in was half-forge half-laboratory. We wandered in, walking down the aisles.
-Look at this. Thalia said, waving a file. Inside were a bunch of pictures of Isadora. Every square inch of visible skin on her had been photographed, her hair, her eyes, there were even a few X-rays.
-Why would someone take pictures of Dora? I asked.
-That’s not all. Annabeth said. She had a small plastic box in one hand, half-filled with blood.
-There are also tissue samples, a lock of hair and what looks like muscle. Annabeth said. How she knew how muscles looked like, I rather not find out.
-Dora said that the two automatons, in the other room, they were meant to be like her.
-Except less vulnerable. Thalia said.
-That’s why she was kidnapped. So someone could study her. Annabeth said, as I wandered into the forge. I pulled a white cover off some project and nearly had a heart attack.
It was a guy, about 16, with straw-blond hair and that looked kind of like Laurel. The thing’s eyes were closed and he didn’t seem to be breathing. I could’ve thought it was human, but it was missing a leg and an arm.
-What? Thalia asked, answering my cry of surprise.
-Holly… Annabeth said, coming to stand besides me.
-It’s an automaton. I said.
-Except it’s not done. You must’ve ran away before they finished it. Annabeth said.
-They are using demigods as models. Dora to know how to build it, and the quest party for the appearance. I said.
- Why would they need them to look exactly like them? Annabeth? Annabeth, what’s wrong? Thalia asked.
-I’m thinking, she said, that if this is where they built the automatons, they’d need to have the models near by.
-So that means that they must’ve been moved near here one by one as they were built! I said. I pulled the cover back over fake-me (do I really look like that? I’m pretty sure I’m taller then that) and we ran to the next room. It was locked.
-Dam, I’m not good at picking locks! Thalia said. She fell to her knees and inserted an unfolded paper clip in the key hole, Annabeth and I behind her, weapons drawn, ready for any kind of beast to leap out at us. Nothing. We sprinted in the room.

There was one person in the room. A black-haired, 17 year old boy, standing up, propped against the wall wearing a straitjacket.
-Annabeth! Jason! Thalia! He said.
-Percy! Annabeth yelled.
-Don’t, look at his eyes! Thalia yelled, grabbing Annabeth by the shoulders.
Percy Jackson’s eyes weren’t the green I’d been described. They had no iris and no pupil, only a blue-grey color.
-Annabeth! Annabeth, it really is me! Percy pleaded. Somehow, hearing his voice, seeing his eyes and looking at the sickish color, I remembered my dreams.
-It’s him, it’s him! I said. Annabeth struggled free of Thalia anyways and threw her arms around Percy’s shoulders.
-Oh my Gods, it really is you. She sobbed.
-It’s okay, it’s okay, I’m sorry, I’m really, really sorry! Percy said.
-I missed you Seaweed brain. She said softly.
-Umm, Percy? I’ve got a knife. Thalia said. Annabeth took a step back, whipping the corners of her damp eyes with her sleeve, and Thalia slashed the straitjacket off.
-I’ll tell Grover. Thalia said before sprinting off. Percy was holding Annabeth tight, her head leaning on his shoulder. But then something went wrong. Percy took a step back.
-It’s happening Ag… He said but his knees bucked. Annabeth caught his arm and lowered him to the ground. His head had dropped and he was shaking all over.
-Percy? Percy! Oh my gods what’s happening? Annabeth asked.
-His memory is being erased. A voice croaked from the corner. I pointed my sword towards the corner.
-No, don’t! I looked closer. The man was 40, his hair long and black, streaked with silvery-grey strands, brought back in a ponytail. His eyes were bright blue and glasses were perched on his nose. I don’t know if it was family resemblance, but I knew who he was.
-Are you Adahy Ross, demigod son of Hermes? I asked.
-Yes! He answered.
-Father of demigod daughter of Persephone, Piper Ross?
-Where is she? Where’s Lily? He asked.
-She’s with the others, over there, I lied. Mr Ross, do you know what was holding you captive?
-Yes, I saw her face many times. A goddess I’d never met. I think it was… But his head dropped and he started shaking frantically.
-He’s out too. I told Annabeth. She pinned Percy against the wall. Finally he stopped shaking and straightened his neck.
-What happened? Who are you? He asked confused.
-Percy, it’s me. Annabeth. He looked confused.
-I’m sorry, but you’ve got the wrong guy. I don’t know any Annabeth. He said gently. Annabeth took a step back.
-No, no, no! What happened? He remembered a minute ago! She moaned.
-Annabeth, you heard what Mr Ross said. The shaking-thing, it was memory modification. Whoever kidnapped them must’ve been doing it from Olympus, or wherever she is. Annabeth paled.
-Oh my Gods, they know we’re here! She said.
-Percy! Somebody yelled. Grover darted past me and hugged Percy, who’d gotten back to his feet.
-Whoa! He said.
-Grover, he doesn’t remember. And aren’t you with Nico?
-What he… Like Jason… Oh, and the others came back, Dora’s with Nico and Piper. I looked at the door. Leo, Ria and Thalia were standing there. They came in. Annabeth turned to Ria.
-Can you bring them back? She asked. His memories? She went towards Percy, holding her wand. She tilted his chin up.
-Umm, do I know you? He asked.
-Yes, stand still. She said. She put the wand’s tip to his temples and passed it across his forehead. She put the wand down and turned towards Annabeth.
- There’s nothing for me to make him remember. His memories weren’t changed, masked, or hidden. They’re just gone.
-Gone? Annabeth chocked out.
-I’ve told people all along. I didn’t forget, I didn’t know deep down. There wasn’t anything for me to remember. Annabeth looked close to tears.
-Cheer up, maybe Mr D or Chiron can do something Ria can’t. No offence. Leo said. Ria looked around.
-How come I’m the only one who had to bunk with a monster? It hardly seems fair.
-Percy and Adahy were disarmed, and probably as far away from water as they could be. You could still do magic without the wand. Thalia said.
-That they took! I swear if I find out who put their paws on my…
-What’s going on? A voice asked from the corner. It was Adahy.
-Adahy! Ria said. She knelt next to him and hugged him.
-I’m fine, I’m fine, Ria. He said getting to his feet, putting a lot of his weight on the wall.
-Wait, how come you remember? Thalia asked.
-What? Who are you? All of you? He said. We introduced ourselves. He seemed to know Grover, Thalia and Nico too of course.
-How did you keep your memories? Thalia asked again.
- I’m not sure. I never forgot anything during the whole stay. He shrugged he turned to me.
-Where did you say Lily was?
-Um, over there. I said pointing to the door.
-Hey, wait, I know you. You’re her friend aren’t you? From Wilderness?
-You could say that. Leo said.
-Shut up Leo, not now! Grover said.
- He’s right, let’s get out of here before a monster pops up. I said.
-Umm, about that… Thalia said.

Leo
This is a pen
The thing was as thick as a school bus, and Zeus knows how long. It was blood red and had eyes like scrunched up tin foil. Its nostrils had smoke coming out and its teeth were long and pointy, dropping out of its mouth.
-Oh, that’s not good. Jason said softly. His sword was in his hand and everyone had a weapon but Percy and Mr R. Ria had traded her wand for a long silver, ruby incrusted sword. She took out a black ballpoint pen, the kind you get for 40 cents and tossed it at Percy.
-Found it for you. She said.
-Umm… Thanks.
-Hope you remember how to fight with it. She said.
-This is a pen! He said.
-Uncap it! Grover said. He did and it grew into a Celestial Bronze sword.
-It’s called Riptide, put it to good use! Annabeth said. The Creature got tired of waiting and lunged forwards. We separated, running either side of the room. The creature came in further and a second head squeezed in threw the doorway. One for each side. I was on the side with Annabeth, unarmed Mr Piper’s-dad and the amnesiac.
-Annabeth, monster analysis? I asked.
-Drakon, none of you look him in the eyes!
-Does that mean the eyes are a bad thing? I asked.
-Yes!
-Okay! I threw my spear in the thing’s eye. Nailed it (I should try archery one of these days). It wailed with rage. Within seconds, Annabeth was running towards it. Distracted by its self pity, it didn’t react fast enough, leaving Annabeth the time to jump from the snout, to the spear to its head.
-Oh my God you people are crazy! Percy cried.
-And you are too if you think we don’t need your help! I said taking out my sword. Annabeth had somehow managed to perch herself on its head and was going to force her dagger in the other eye, in a “stake-a-vampire” way, but the thing bucked its head. She fell over, just a little too close to the drakon’s mouth. It picked her up and swallowed her, her knife fell to the ground.
-NO! Percy yelled. He ran forwards, took the spear from its eye and held its jaw open with it. He crawled in the things mouth and let himself slip down the throat, Annabeth’s dagger planted in its neck behind him. Blood spilt from the wound, created by the knife, and soon, both Percy and Annabeth crawled out, covered in blood, spit and whatever else drakons have in their insides. Percy supported Annabeth until they reached the corner, where they both dropped down. I snapped out of my awe and ran forwards, sword up, to put the thing out of its misery. I sliced the top part of its head off.
-It’ll… Grow… Another one. Annabeth panted. I took a jar out of my pocket. A flame burned in it. A trick the guys had shown me at the forge. I took the flame out and threw it at the monster’s remains. It burnt to the other side.
-I hope you have a plan to put that out! Mr Ross yelled.
-Yes! Percy’ll do it! I said.
-What? Are you mad? He asked.
-No, look. I took my sword and jammed it hard on the wall. Its magical properties broke the brick. I pierced a piece of plumbing and a jet of water came out.
-How does that help, the fire’s too far! Percy yelled.
-Will the water to put out the fire! Annabeth croaked.
-I…
-Percy do IT! I yelled. He closed his eyes, crossed his fingers and slowed his breath. The jet got bigger and hit the monster, taking out the flame. I could see the others. They were just standing there in awe. The flame had burnt threw to the other head as well. We were all panting.
-Percy you can stop now. I said. The jet died until it was to its original state and he looked exhausted(er).
-Percy, you, you saved me. Annabeth croaked.
-Of course I did. All I know about you is that you’re important. And you’re pretty. He added. I took a look at the leak.
-Anybody got duck tape? I asked.
-That’s the only way you can figure out to fix the pipe? Thalia asked.
-It’s the quickest way. I said back. I took it nobody had duck tape.
-Leave it, the place will flood and everything will be destroyed. Ria said.
-I guess. I said. Mr Ross darted out of the room.
-Where’s he going?
-I don’t know, he wanted to see Piper early… Oh my gods they were in the hallway! Jason said. Jason and I dashed out of the room. Jason, Mr R and I were standing in the space between the wall and the drakon’s body. Why hadn’t it exploded into dust? I didn’t care, I looked around.
-Where are they? You don’t reckon that they…
-No, I think Dora got them out of here. Jason said.
-Leo! I heard someone yell. It was coming from outside. I don’t know how but Dora had gotten both Nico and Lily out of the building when she’d seen the Drakon coming. Why hadn’t she warned us? I ran outside to see them. They were with the Pegasi. Mr Ross dropped besides Piper and lifted her gently on his knees.
-I’m sorry- I- didn’t tell. I- have trouble speaking n-n-now. Dora said.
-I’m sure you’ll get used to it again. Have any of them moved, twitched or shown sign of life in any possible way?
-They ha-ve pulses. Dora said.
-I’m guessing that’s good. Okay, the others are on their way, I think, but I’m not sure we have enough Pegasi for everyone.
-I fly. Jason offered.
-Good, can you fly with another person?
-Yes.
-Then transport is achievable. 2 by Pegasi, you with somebody else.
-JASON WATCH OUT! Mr Ross yelled. Jason turned and ducked just in time. A giant figure leaped over my head. It was a lioness, with the head of a woman, dark brown hair pulled into a bun and way too much make-up on, her yellow eyes glowing in the light.
-A sphinx! He said.
-Bless you.
-That’s a sphinx! He repeated.
-I’m guessing that’s bad. I said drawing his sword.
-Well, she does-n’t look like she’d about to ask a ri-ddle. Dora said. She had a dagger in her hand.
-We aren’t in studio, it would be completely pointless. She said. I crossed glances with Jason. He shrugged.
-Well what do you want? Leo asked.
-A midnight snack. She said. She lunged forwards and Jason pushed me just in time. She went rolling a few feet.
-Leo, have any other weapons for him? Jason asked.
-No!
-I’ll just get them out of here. He said showing Nico and Piper. With surprising ease he picked up Nico and put him over his shoulder, like a fireman and ran towards the near-by woods. The sphinx went for us again. Dora looked at a ground and threw herself down a short distance to where the beast would touchdown and lifted the dagger. The Sphinx jumped right above it, the blade ripping threw its stomach. It landed, roaring with rage and swatted Dora with her paw, sending her flying.
-DORA! I yelled. I think the snow softened her fall, but she didn’t get back up. I realised that Mr Ross had taken Piper to the forest too. He grabbed Dora’s knife, which she’d dropped on the ground and charged the beast with us.
As the three blades came down on it, the beasts’ paws flew towards us. Jason, I really have no clue how he did that, jumped on it and propelled himself to the other side of the beast, and dug his sword in its side. It roared and its paw went flying again. The claws hit Adahy Ross and his knees bucked, as he screamed in pain. I lifted my sword to hit it again, but it wasn’t there, just a pile of sand, that blew away.
Jason knelt next to Lily’s dad, who’d sitten up.
-Sir, you okay? He asked. He blinked a few times.
-I’m fine. He said, getting up. I went to see Dora. I flipped her over and brushed the snow off her face.
-Dora, Dora? I asked tapping her shoulder.
-What? She groaned.
-Are you okay?
-I think. She opened her eyes and I helped her up. The others all came out at that time. Thalia, supporting Annabeth, who was limping, Percy walking besides her.
-Sorry, Ria really wanted to go wreck the lab. Grover said.
-Good girl. Adahy said.
-Wait, did you hear the fight? Jason asked. They all frowned.
-What fight?
-Sphinx was here like, 30 seconds ago, and it wasn’t a quiet fight. I said walking over, Dora clutching my shoulder for support.
-The rooms are soundproof. We didn’t hear you guys get in. Mr Ross said.
-Shall we get going? Ria asked.
-Yes, who wants to fly with me? Jason asked.
-Not me! Thalia said, nearly instantly.
-You can fly? Percy asked.
-Percy, there are like 20 kids who can do it. Annabeth said gently. He was about to say something but thought better of it and stayed silent.
-Why don’t you take Nico or Piper? They will be safer lying down then on a Pegasi. Dora suggested.
-I’ll take Nico, Mr Ross,
-Adahy.
-Okay, Adahy, you can take Piper.
-Sounds like a plan. Thalia said.
-They are both over there by the woods. Adahy said. Jason and Thalia darted off. They came back, both of them floating behind them. I thought Percy’s jaw just might fall off.
-The Pegasi are in the woods, but we’re missing some. Thalia said.
-Missing? What do you mean? Annabeth asked.
-We took 5 Pegasi to get here, only 2 are there right now.
-What? How did that happen? Where they stolen?
-Probably. They wouldn’t fly off without us, they’re trained. Annabeth said.
-Well, I guess we’re going to have to go back to camp in groups. Ria, Percy, Nico, Piper, Dora and Adahy need to get to camp quicker. That would leave Jason, Leo, Grover, Annabeth and I.
-But they can’t go alone. No offence, but none of you people are in fighting shape. Annabeth said.
-I can still fight. Ria and Dora said at once.
-Ria, maybe, but Dora, you need to get that wound checked. I said.
-It’s fine. She said.
-How about Percy, Nico, Piper and Adahy get back to camp. I can fly with Annabeth. Then the rest of you guys can stay nearby until we send help. Jason said.
-That sounds good. Thalia agreed.
-Ria, you need to get to camp more then me. All you got for your head was nectar. I’m fine. He said.
-I don’t like it. She said.
-No, but then there will be 3 armed warriors to fight instead of 2. He offered. Ria agreed.
-Contact camp; find a carwash or a fountain, IM the camp. Annabeth said as a confused Percy, Ria, Jason, Nico, Lily and herself flew off.
When they were out of view I turned to the others.
-So what now? I asked.
-We get away form this place before she comes back. Adahy said.
-Speaking of which, who is “she”? Who kidnapped all of you? Thalia asked.
-It’s… I don’t remember. He said frowning.
-The memory charm did work earlier! Except unlike Percy, you only lost one single thing. I said.
-A cru-cial piece of info-infor-mation. Dora spat out. Every time she talked it was as if the words were stuck in her throat and she was fighting to get them out.
-Anything you can do to help you talk? I asked.
-I don’t th-ink so.
-Here, try some nectar. Thalia said handing Dora a water bottle. She drank a little bit.
-Than-k you. Dora said handing the water bottle back to Thalia.
-Let’s get out of here. Grover said. We set off in the woods, as we caught Adahy up with Dora’s story.
-Wow, never heard that one before. He said.
-No, it’s not a common campfire story. Thalia said.
-But there’s one thing I don’t understand, Dora. How did you survive? You must’ve been uncouncient since you got here, like, 60 years ago.
-I was. But when Hephaestus came to find me in Asph-o-del, he asked me if he could do any-thing for me. I told him that I wanted to die a he-roes’ death. So he built me a new bo-dy to gi-ve me a second ch-chance. I’m no-ot sure if that’s why or if it was just magic.
We walked forwards until we saw a ski resort. The slopes towered way over the gift shop and restaurant building, and the doors were locked. The place was deserted, like ski resorts usually are at 2 o’clock in the morning. We walked towards a pipe. I dug the blade of my sword into a water pipe and water sprouted out. A bolt of lightning crackled out of the sky and the light emitted by it was just bright enough to make a tiny rainbow. That or Iris was feeling generous.
-O Iris, goddess of the rainbow, accept my offering. I said, tossing the drachma in.
-Chiron, Camp Half-Blood! I said. Chiron in a small cabin near the archery range were they kept extra bows and arrows, trying to clean up.
-Chiron! I said, to get his attention. He looked up.
-Leo! Grover, Thalia and… Well. Adahy Ross, good to see you again. And… Dora James! You three have some explanation to do!
-Okay, but we managed; Ria, Percy, Annabeth, Jason, Nico and Piper are on their way to camp.
-Yes! That’s the best news we’ve had all day!
-Yes, some of our Pegasi got stolen, 3, and we had to stay behind. We’re a little outside of Ottawa, might be in Quebec now. At a ski resort called “Ski-Lanza” or something.
-Stay where you are, I shall send Clarisse to come retrieve you. He said. Now, explain how you have Miss James and Adahy Ross standing behind you? We told him about how it had gone in the building.
-I see.
-Chiron, what made Nico and Piper unable to shadow-travel? Thalia asked.
-That, my dear girl, I have no idea. One could say Hades, or Persephone, but neither of them would do that when one of their children is at stake. Something worst I fear. The importance is that they both managed to pull you out of the shadows and that everyone is safe. Chiron said.
-I guess.
-Would you mind Iris-messaging Sally Jackson-Blofis? I know it’s early in the morning, but I think this is something she needs to know. Tell her she may come to camp, I’ll arrange for the barriers to lighten.
-Yes, of course. And Ria’s father?
-Ria’s father is actually dead. Chiron said, the Iris message expired and in fell to nothing.
-Anybody got another drachma? Dora asked. We dug in our pockets.
-Does Iris accept dollars? I asked.
-I don’t think she does. You’ll have to trade it. Adahy said.
-Like at those booths in airports?
-Precisely. He said.
-What? What kind of airport trades dollars into drachmas?
-Airports in most American cities, Athens, a few of the Canadian capitals and a few others. But all you’ve got is me. He said. He plucked the dollar out of my hand and made a fist. He murmured something in Ancient Greek; all I understood was Hermes’ name and the word drachma. When he opened his fist there were 4 shiny drachmas.
-How did you do that?
-My father is god of trade. If he’s feeling generous I can get favours.
-Great, let’s do it. Thalia said. A bolt crackled down from the sky and it made a faint rainbow. Dora threw in a coin just before it faded.
-O Iris, goddess of the rainbow, accept our offering. Sally Jackson-Blofis, New York City. The vision shimmers. A woman with long, strait brown hair, streaked with grey was sitting in front of a computer. She was running her fingers across the keyboard.
-Umm… Mrs Jackson? Dora asked bravely. She spun around. Her eyes were sparkly blue and she seemed tired and anxious. She looked at the message confused.
-Grover? Thalia? Oh my God what happened? Is everything..?
-Everything’s fine Mrs Jackson, we found them. Mrs Jackson closed her eyes and breathed out, a smile on her face.
-Oh my… Thank you, thank you! Is he okay? She said.
-Um, in theory. We told her how he couldn’t remember anything.
-Memories can be re-gained. She said.
-I guess. Anyways he’s on his way to camp with the others. Chiron says you can go to the camp if you want.
-Oh, that’s great! Thank you for telling me. I’ll go wake up Paul. She said.
-Goodbye. Grover said, before passing his hand threw the mist.
-Paul? Thalia asked.
-Percy’s step-dad.
-Gods I haven’t talked to him in too long. Oh well. What do we do waiting?
-The journey is about 4 hours from Camp to Ottawa, assuming she takes a fast Pegasus, 3. We’ve got some waiting to do. Thalia estimated.
-Oh joy, I’m so good at that. I said.
We decided to get away from the entrance, seeing as workers would start arriving in an hour for their “Early bird gets the worm” event, advertised on the doors. We could still see the entrance from where we’d decided to stay. A few minutes later there was already a line-up to get in the park, the workers not even there yet.
-I know 4 people that would wake up at this time in the morning to ski, only two of them have being children of Boreas as excuses.
-Who are the two others?
-The Stoll brothers. They like messing with the plumbing and heating, holding up lines and ticking off the skiers.
-Connor and Travis? Those guys are hilarious! I said.
-Depend whose plumbing they’re messing with. Thalia said.
-See, this is why setting traps is useful. I said. There was second of stunned astonishment.
-I’m scared to go to Hephaestus cabin now. Grover said.
-Well, they’ve b-b-een there for at least 60 years, so far no fatalities. Dora said.
-Some of those are still standing. Others are newer; Hermes is getting better at avoiding them. I said. We talked about the traps and how they were set and built, then Dora asked me how much the forge had changed etc, etc. Thalia tried to listen but 10 seconds in she went in the forest for target practise or something. Grover followed.
-Did they fix the roof after the rat -inci-dent?
-They did, but there’s still a stain on the wall. I said. Dora started laughing. Her laughter was soft and pleasant.
-Rat-incident? Adahy asked.
-Some kid fed plaster and Ambrosia to a rat just to see what would happen, and it started getting bigger and bigger until it took up most of the forge, the roof kind of popped up. In the end they had to pop the rat, like a balloon. I said.
-That is just gross. Thalia said, walking out of the woods.
-It is, but it’s hilarious!
-Poor rat. Who the heck feeds ambrosia and plaster to a rat anyways? Grover said.
-Trevor Stillcums. That guy was an absolute idiot! So hilarious do. Dora said.
-And the best part is, they couldn’t fix the roof because they’d lost a part of some kind that couldn’t be replaced until Hephaestus forgave us, so the forge stayed open-air for a year or two. I said.
-We were all crammed in the cabin most of the time. Dora said.
Suddenly, Adahy pushed us to the ground as a figure leapt over us, its paw barely missing my head. We got up. It was a hellhound the size of a mini-van. It growled at us, showing its pure white fangs.
An arrow shot past my ear and nailed the thing in the nose. It didn’t do anything but make the beast angrier. It leapt again. We scattered. The mortals waiting to get in the park were panicking at this stage.
-Adahy, catch! Thalia said. She took a hunting knife the length of her arm, from its scabbard and threw it. He caught it in mid-air as the beast charged Grover. He put his reed pipes to his lips and played a song that reminded me of what the music teacher at Wilderness liked to make us listen to (that’s not good). The Hellhound started sinking, as if the ground was made of quicksand. While Dora, Adahy and I went in with our swords to try to injure the monster, Thalia shooting behind us, it dug its paw out of the muck and lifted it to hit Grover. He toppled over and she lifted her paw again, and sent it thrashing down. Except the yell of pain wasn’t Grover’s.

It was Adahy Ross’.

The beast ran its claws, the length of my fore-arm, down his face and neck, as Grover started playing the song again.
Dora raised her sword and planted it in the beast, and its triumphant barks faded, as it popped into gold dust.
Dora landed on her feet, swift like a cat and ran to see where Grover and Thalia were already gathered.
Thalia had unzipped his jacket, and Adahy’s shirt was wet with blood and he was wincing.
-Woe. I said.
-No way you could’ve lost all that blood just with that strike. The Sphinx had gotten you, hadn’t it? Thalia said.
-It was nothing. It barely touched me. He insisted.
-Well it did. Grover said. Not only did he have chest-injuries, but a gash was running on the top of his forehead and shoulder, another on his neck. Thalia took out her bottle of Ambrosia and poured some on the injuries. He winced but said nothing, as the magic liquid touched his injuries and penetrated in him. He was breathing heavily, and looking pretty pale. He looked like Piper before she’d passed out after the plants grew. Except I had a feeling this was much, much worst.
- Grace, get out of the way, Solace, do what you can. A new voice said. It was Clarisse. A short boy from Apollo was besides him, a brown bag at his side. He kneeled next to Adahy and examined the injury. Clarisse grabbed me by the shoulder and dragged me aside. Thalia followed.
-What happened?
-There was a hell-hound; it just popped out of the woods. It was going for Grover, but Adahy pushed him out of the way and took it.
-Umm, excuse me? A voice said. A mortal wearing a bright green skin-suit was standing behind Clarisse.
-Is your dad over there okay?
-He’s not my dad and what would make you think he’s not okay?
-There’s no blood, he’s just lying down. Thalia said, snapping her fingers.
-Oh, umm, you’re right. How silly of me. She baffled.
-You woke up early. Thalia said kindly.
-Now scat! Clarisse barked, less kindly. The terrified skier went back to wait with her friends. We went back to see Will. He was humming a weird song; I understood bits of it were to Apollo. He looked up at us when he was done.
-He lost consciousness a few seconds ago, his injuries aren’t good, we won’t be able to move him for a while, and even then, still might not be safe. Will informed us.
-We need to get back to camp, that thing comes from the school, I know it. Thalia told Clarisse.
-But we can’t just leave him here. I said.
-Of course that’s not an option, leaving somebody behind never is. Thalia said.
-Should we send him to a Mortal hospital? Hellhounds don’t have any venom or anything. Clarisse said.
-Guys, don’t bother. Dora said weekly.
-Why? I asked.
-Because he just stopped breathing. Will said.

When all Hades breaks loose
I woke up feeling like my head was about to explode. I sat up and rubbed my temples, recalling what had happened previously. I was in a bed; the color of the walls reminded me of the big house.
-Hey. Somebody said. It was Leo. He was sitting on a chair by the door, Jason besides him. Both of them came and hugged me.
-What happened? I asked.
-Well, you dragged us out of the shadow world, which I still owe you for, and you’re uncouncient since. It’s been 4 days. Leo said.
-4 days? Man… Where’s my dad? He’s safe, we rescued him, right? Jason and Leo looked down at the floor, like I’d just asked the million dollar question none of them knew the answer of.
-Guys. Is my dad in a safe place? I asked again. Jason shyly took my hand.
-The thing is Lily, he… He took a hellhound attack for Grover. And he… Jason said clumsily.
A big ball of sadness, fury and disbelief ran up my throat as soon as Jason failed to say the unspeakable words. I refused to believe this. It could not be true. Of course it wasn’t, he was my dad. Dads can last through everything and anything. I knew my last thought wasn’t true. My eyes started stinging and I closed them. Jason hugged me and I dug my face in his hair.
It wasn’t true.
It wasn’t true.
It wasn’t true.
Yes it was!
This wasn’t the kind of prank even Hermes would pull. It was the truth.
-It was a hellhound? I asked releasing myself from Jason’s arms. They nodded.
It’d been written in black and white the whole time.
Hecate.
She’s told me it was coming. The words she’s addressed specifically to me. This was what they’d meant. I should’ve seen it sooner.
And then there was the monster itself. It was a dog. Hecate’s sacred animal was the bitch. A dog, black dogs especially, like a hellhound.
The whole world seemed fuzzy. Unreal, a dream… Not a dream: a nightmare. I would wake up and either be in my cabin, or in the dorm at Wilderness. That was the only acceptable possibility.
Piper, stop kidding yourself. He’s gone. G-O-N-E, gone. I told myself.
Ignoring the misery and the desire to just stay in a dark corner and never come back out in the sun, for sun was happiness which couldn’t possibly exist at that moment; I got out of the bed and laced my sneakers to my feet, and tied my sword, propped against the wall, to my side.
-Where are you going? Jason asked.
-To see Chiron. I said.
-There’s a meeting in a couple of minutes. For those interested only, they want to explain what happened to everyone. We were waiting for Nico and you to wake up.
-Did he?
-Yesterday. Tried to walk and blacked out again, woke up earlier this morning.
-Okay. I’ll go; I’ll talk to him after. I said.
-I’ll get back to the forges. See you guys later. Leo said. But of course instead of taking the door like a normal person, Leo jumped out the window.
-We’re on the first floor right?
-Second. He’s jumped off higher places. Jason said. I followed him out the room, down the stairs and into the room with the air-hockey tables, not taking in much. Much less people were there then before. The 9 Olympian cabins, Rachel and 7 others. Hecate, the 4 wind cabins (including Jason), Peitho and Iris.
Ria looked much better; dust whipped off her face and clean in general, no blood on her hair. Her wand was strapped to her arm with a piece of leather. Percy and Annabeth looked happier then I’d ever seen both of them, and I couldn’t help but smile. Nico was a pearl-grey color and he was shivering, even if he was wearing a jacket. I don’t think I looked much better. Rachel, still puffy eyed, looked a little better too. The new leader for Iris, I recognised her by her bubblegum pink hair, which she’d died just before the quest, looked uncomfortable.
I sat down next to Katie and she affectionately put her arm around my shoulder.
-Hey. She said. I nodded.
-Ah, Jason, Piper, there you are. Chiron said.
-Was that Leo who jumped out the window? Jake Masson asked.
-Yes. Jason confirmed.
-Okay. The quest was a success. Most of you have been wondering about it since they came back, and nobody there has let a word slip. Jason, explain what happened when you were at Clare Foster’s house.
We explained to them everything. Dylan, our meeting with Hecate, the dreams Jason now recalled; everything. Then Ria explained what had happened. I only managed to half-listen.
-We were near Lake Placid. Percy thought he’d seen something in the bushes, we went to look. Something attacked us from behind. I tried to petrify it, but it pushed me and I knocked my head on a rock. I slipped my wand in my sleeve before I blacked out. Anyways we woke up in the school or whatever the building we were trapped in was. There were robots, of people and they took a blood and tissue sample for the 3 of us, and Adahy Ross. Then Jason and Percy started shaking and when they woke up their eyes were plain blue.
-Why didn’t the memory-thing affect you? Jason asked.
-Well obviously the spell wasn’t measured for demigods, since Percy, and probably Jason at some point, would remember things from time to time. Ria is a daughter of Hecate. The magic in her counter-facts with any spell, but those of Hecate, or Children of Kronos. Chiron said.
-Probably. Anyways, they went in and out of remembering things. We figured Jason had the best chances of getting to camp, because he can, you know, fly, so with the little energy I had left, I teleported Jason out of the room, but he fell short of camp and was near Nevada. Then a harpy came in. It had a hellhound with it too. They knocked me uncouncient and took my wand, I hate hellhounds, and then they must’ve tried to catch up with Jason. They must’ve succeeded and erased him memory until Clare found him.
Anyways, they knocked me out again and I didn’t wake up until the quest party got there. They’d separated me from the two others and planted a monster in my room to keep me from escaping. And then, you know what happens. She said.
-I still don’t understand how the trail got mixed up. Becca Stilton, daughter of Aphrodite, said.
-By accident, Rachel followed an older trail, the one of Jason going back to camp, not the one of Jason going to Nevada. An honest mistake. Chiron said kindly.
-No its not, I screwed up everything. Rachel said rubbing her eyes.
-You didn’t Rachel. You followed the brighter trail. Will Solace said. It was obvious she wasn’t buying into it, but she didn’t say anything.
-That concludes everything. Back to your normal activities everybody. Quest party, stay here for a second. Ria and Percy as well. And Annabeth, you got the message from Zeus?
-What message?
- The Cyclops are ready to start building a shrine of some sort whenever you are.
-The Artemis shrine! She squeezed Percy’s hand and sprinted out of the door.
- Piper, may I speak to you first? I nodded and went to see him.
-I’m sorry for your loss. He said.
-Thanks. I said.
-We already performed the funeral rites, if that’s what you wanted to ask me. He said.
-How did you..?
-I just do. He said.
-Yeah, it was. I said after a few seconds. He patted my shoulder and turned to look at the rest of the quest party. Nico, Jason, Rachel. And the captives, Percy and Ria.
-The 4 of you, you have done an extremely good job. Ria, how you sent Jason to Nevada, it was an excellent spell under the circumstances you were in. And Percy, saving Annabeth from the Drakon was one of the bravest things done on this quest. I’m proud, of all of you.
Ria had blushed and Percy just seemed relieved we were talking about something that he remembered.
-Ria, you are completely certain that the memories can’t be brought back in any way?
-Not my anything at camp. She said.
-There’s more to life then camp, kiddo. Somebody said. We spun around. A 7 year old girl wearing a white sundress and flip-flops was standing in the doorframe. She had rosy cheeks, and shoulder length black hair. With her honey eyes, she would’ve been cute, if not for the hundreds, maybe thousands of black words tattooed all over her skin in small print. It stopped at about her neck. They were changing. Some disappeared as more inked themselves on, some getting smaller to make rooms. It was very distracting.
-Hebe, what are you doing here? Chiron asked, tilting his head towards the goddess.
-Well, when things get tough on Olympus and Hermes and Iris are busy, dad sends me. Thunder rumbled.
-Oh shush, you know it’s true! She yelled at the sky.
-What does Zeus want? Nico asked.
-That’s Lord Zeus to you cuz, and Poseidon is still blaming him for the whole disappearance thing. So here I am. She skipped towards Percy.
-Bend down, I’m short. She told Percy. Percy kneeled and the girl just starred in her eyes and looked at her arms. I started reading the words on her arms.
Barbie dream house
Soccer ball
Mario Kart Wii
Doctor
Princess
One particularly stood out for me.
A MOMMY
-Um hm. Okay, here I go. She said. She put her index to Percy’s forehead and the spot were her finger touched glowed. Different images passed right above rapidly, resembling an Iris message.
A toddler holding a snake in his hands, little boy with green eyes and black hair, starring at a huge man wearing a hat and a trench coat, Percy in the woods with other demigods, a holograph of a trident over his head, everybody starring. Percy yelling to some guy in an orange prison suit, who was trying to grab a donut at the same time he talked back, Percy in a tent with animal pelts hanging on the wall, talking to a girl in a silver dress; in the workshop of a genius with Rachel, Annabeth and a man with grey eyes. Then of Percy and Annabeth, holding hands, being dumped in the canoe lake by a crowd, both laughing.
Hebe took her finger off and took a step back; waving it like you would to cool a hot utensil down.
-And? She asked. Percy frowned and shook his head, like if there was a buzzing in his ears.
-Oh my gods… I… everything! He said.
-Nearly everything. Some memories are gone for ever, but the important ones are back. Hebe said.
-Wait, what just happened? Rachel asked.
-Zeus thinks that if he gives back the memories to Percy, Poseidon will let it go. So he sent me, because most of his memories were when he was a child.
-A child being considered 15 or less in Sparta. Chiron said.
-Where I was born, yes. But since he’s a year older, Zeus gave me special permission and there it is. Hebe said.
-Thank you Lady Hebe, Percy said, bowing his head. Can you do the same for Jason? He asked.
-Afraid not. Barely know anything about him; I don’t know which memories to recreate. The gods only briefed me on you. Sorry. She said.
-No, its fine. Jason said. I remembered what Hestia had told him. It must’ve gotten to it, touched him more then I’d thought. Thunder rumbled.
-That’s my cue. Hebe said rolling her eyes. She popped into smoke and disappeared.
-Wow. Rachel said.
-Hebe is pretty hands-on. Chiron agreed. He turned to Percy.
-You remember everything?
-Everything. He said.
-Do you know who captured you then? I asked.
-But that. He said.
-Adahy knew. Adahy was about to tell me but his memory got erased.
-Why didn’t he forget at the same time as me? Percy asked.
-Who knows? A god or goddess might have protected him from the spell. Hecate maybe. Chiron suggested.
-Maybe. I said.
But I had a feeling I knew which goddess had, and it wasn’t Hecate.
-What was that, all over her arms? The words. Jason asked.
-Dreams. The things you dream of as a child, the one you want most. Hebe is the goddess of youth. She echoes what children want and are. You shall always be able to find the child you were, the wishes you had, on her skin, and Hebe doesn’t forget them. As long as you live and the wish isn’t accomplished, it stays. Die ignoring a dream, the dream dies with you.
There was a moment of silence and just taking in the wisdom. I remembered the one word popping out amongst the others. I thought about how I’d wanted 2 parents. When I was little I wanted a dad and a mom. I had my mom now (or at least half), but not my dad.
-Back to your activities everybody. Nico, Piper, try not to overdue it. Chiron said as we walked out of the Big house. Di Angelo nodded and he headed to the arena, probably just to tick off Demeter. I felt my legs weaken and I nearly tripper, but Jason caught my arm.
-You okay?
-I’m fine. I said. He nodded and we walked towards the strawberry field, where Connor and Travis were busy with a weed wacker.
-What now? Jason asked me.
-What do you mean? I asked.
-What are you going to do? It’s Christmas in 4 days, and in 10 days Wilderness starts again. Are you going back?
-I don’t know. I think I’ll at least go back to Wilderness after Christmas and finish the year. I’ll probably come back to camp after. You? I said.
-Laurel’s going to my mom’s place for Christmas. She’s getting picked up tomorrow. She was here 4 days ago, but Laurel had something to do before going back to the City.
-So you met your mom? What’s she like. I asked as we started walking, towards the forge.
-She’s nice. She looks like Laurel as an adult, except her eyes are brown. It’s just so weird. I don’t remember her, but she’s my mom.
-Yeah. It doesn’t seem fair you don’t get your memories back. I mean, I’m happy for Percy and all-
-So am I.
-But still, while she was at it… Jason nodded.
-Are you going back to Wilderness?
-I think I am. I was planning on it anyways. Besides, if you’re going you can’t be alone. Who knows, maybe Isabel’s half harpy? He joked.
-Wouldn’t surprise me. Do you know what Leo’s doing?
-I think he wants to stay. He says he’s not a good fighter, he much rather hang out in the forges.
-Doesn’t surprise me. Leo despises Wilderness; he tried to run away, like, 7 times. I said.
Then I realised what Jason was doing. He was trying to distract me. I smiled and carried on, as if everything was fine.
-So did you figure out where the sword came from? I asked him.
-I got it from Hermes.
-Hermes?
-Yes. It was a gift, before the quest. He’d told me to find his son. He came back the day after we found them, and I had to admit I failed. He told me he didn’t want it back… And to keep his grand daughter safe.
I thought for a minute, puzzled, before remembering that was me.
The idea my dad was a demigod still seemed so bizarre. I couldn’t see him as a child in the archery range trying to get a bulls-eye, climbing up the climbing wall or triggering someone’s chair to break. Try imagining your dad do those things and you’ll see what I mean.
-I’ll miss having Leo around. Jason said.
-Me too. I said.
-We’ll see him next summer. Jason said.
-And everybody else. Maybe even Thalia.
-If Thalia comes back it means there’ll be another quest. Jason warned.
-It does seem like a common thing around here. I said as Percy and Grover passed us, leading Blackjack out of the stables.
-You have no idea. Percy called.
