The likeliest explanation is that after Zazu shot up from the "Birdie Boiler", he left for Mufasa and guided his way there - which is also shown in the film "The Lion King 1½". Although that film is a parody film, it does include some scenes written by the canon film's creators, and that bit with Zazu and Mufasa might be one of them as it is not a parody moment.
Also, Mufasa may have caught his son's and Nala's scent and just followd that.
I believe that after Zazu was catapulted from the "birdie boiler", he flew off to get Mufasa and bring him back to the Elephant Graveyard.

That is the common sense idea. And also shown in the third film which was partially written by the first film's creators. That bit, as it was not one of the parody scenes, could be one of the semi-canon scenes.
HIS MOMMY TOLD HIM HAHAHAAH.... seriously though, this should be in the pop quiz section

No this should not. As there is no absolutely factual answer to this, this becomes essentially a matter of an opinion based on common sense. The pop quizzes are only for solid fact based questions.
NO, Fanpop's staff specifically tells us to not put opinion question into pop quizzes but instead into fan picks. It's liteally stated in the yellow area above this Answers posting page. And any time someone reports an opinion question in pop quizzes, it DOES get deleted sooner or later.
...AND the Lion King 3 scene is not an absolute fact because it was not necessarely written by the people who wrote the original movie. So it's not an absolute fact but room for opinion is plenty.
I agree with bendaimmortal and KingSimba4Ever9, it is an option question because it all depends on what everyone thinks. I could think a compleatly different thing as anyone but it's still my option. If this were a pick, people could add lots of different reasons and it would then resemble more of an option question then.
Simba and Nala went to the outlands and ran into the hyenas they chased them. The cubs got away but Zazu got caught when he came shooting out of the birdie boiler Mufasa saw the fire and knew they in the outlands.
The hyenas cornered the cubs Simba roared and told to come to their side of the outlands.
