The Matrix Question

'Everything but this'? In the subway, just before Smith appears, Trinity says to Neo: "I want to tell you this, but I'm afraid of what it will mean. Everything the Oracle told me has come true...everything but this." What did she mean?

So we know that the oracle told Trin two things. One, she would fall in love, and two, that man would be the one.
Well, if you take visual cues and pick up on the various hints, she knows she's in love with Neo, and she believes him to be the One. So what could she possibly be referring to?

Also, some people have said in forums and such that she was referring to the fact Neo was going to die. However, this is usually based on the incorrect idea that Trinity says to Neo: "The oracle told me that I would fall in love with a dead man, and the man that I loved would be the one." Well, in case you haven't read the subtitles, what she says is actually "The Oracle told me that I would fall in love AND THAT THAT MAN (the man that I loved) would be the One." Also, the one's not supposed to die, so I don't think that's the answer.

Any Ideas?

I am not positive but I think that it was because they did not think Neo was "The One" at the time. Neo had told her the Oracle told him he was not "The One." The Oracle said that Trinity would fall in love with "The One", but she was falling in love with Neo. Neo is the one but she does not know that and thinks that the Oracle is wrong about who she falls in love with. Hope that helps.

I think she means that at that time she didn't know if Neo loved her back.

Hey, I have always wondered the same thing! Was it a mistake in the film? (there are several). But your question actually gave me the likely answer! I suspect the subtitles are wrong!! Think about it. I see movies all the time where they make ridiculous mistakes subtitling the film. I used to assume that the subs are ported directly from the script, but experience shows this is often (always?) not true. They seem to hire 3rd party companies to do this work and somehow the workers don't always have access to the script that was actually used (or the revised script that picked up the ad libs from the cast).

Now if you go back and put "dead" in there this starts to make sense. Trinity admitted she was *afraid* to talk about the prediction with Neo... what it would mean. Why? Well obviously she did not want that part of the prophecy to be true! She was in love, she didn't want to say/do anything that would cause Neo's death.

But Neo did "die"! And Trinity brought him back with a kiss. This too makes better sense now. I am so happy. The pieces finally fit together. Are you happy too? I hope so.
