Yeah... I was kinda bummed when I read that part but is was funny when he refused to breath.
But I think that him becoming Human will just get him closer to Elena, I mean he'll still know her inside out but the thing is now that he can't turn off his humanity.
I kinda wish he becomes a vampire again. To me its like he was born for immortality.
