It was a beautiful night, with the moon covering the fresh, untouched snow with a sleek silver sheen. Two massive wolves, one noticbly larger than the other, stalked into the moonlit clearing. A sense of regalness shrouded around them, and they seemed to never touch the ground. They stopped in the center where the moon shown directly on thair sleek pelts. The smaller one, a beautiful jet black she-wolf with fur as silky as a dove's feather, and eyes as silver as the moonlight she stood on, was the first to speak,"When will she realize her true destiny?" her voice was as smooth- and chilly- as ice. "Soon, my beloved mate. I will send her a sign when i think she is ready." the larger wolf, a massive and handsome male wolf with fur as pure as the snow he hovered above, and his eyes as deep as the ocean. "No! You cant send a sign! She has to figure this out herself! Besides, she just started her training. She may not even become a gaurdian!" the black wolf protested. "That may be true, AdoQhina, but have faith. She is promising, and has all the good qualities we need- courage, potential, curiousity and mental strength." the white wolf replied, undaunted by his comapnion's doubts. "But her negative qualities also shine dimly, too. She lets people control her easily, and she not strong!" "Physical strength is not needed. This discussion is over," before AdoQhina could protest again, Beowulf flicked his tail and disappeared into the sudden blizzard that engulfed the clearing.
"Lupa! Pay attention! And Hemming, shut that flabbering jaw of yours or ill push you into the river!" Nuntis's bark made Lupa and Hemming freeze. "Sorry Nuntis..." they both muttered. Nuntis sniffed,"Lord Tamaska wont be pleased to hear that you ALMOST missd your whole training today." "Oh whatever!" Hemming spat. "I know what to do!" "Show me." Nuntis's stormy grey eyes were cold, as usual. "Fine!" Hemming snapped and stalked to the front of the crowd. With a feirce snarl, he reared, his fangs glinting in the sunlight, and he crashed down on Gunnolf, wrapped his paws around the warrior's chest, and flipped him easily. "Good." Nuntis nodded, but his face didnt change from its normal smug look. Hemming curled his lip as he passed Nuntis, and sat down by Tate. Lupa inched closer to Tikaani, feeling their fur brush. Hemming was a muscular tawny male wolf, with smirking forest green eyes. She glanced at Nuntis, who was demonstrating a backward clawkick on Gunnolf. Nuntis's sleek, shiny golden pelt flashed quickly, as he kicked the grey and brown wolf gently with his back paws. Lupa took this moment to glance at Hemming, who stuck his tongue out sideways at her. She huffed, and turned her attention back to the lesson. "Alright, pups, go back to the den and practice. Remember- to get the job you want, practice practice, PRACTICE!" Everyone got up and padded away back towards the den. Her silver fur bristled in the calm breeze than came from the south. "Wait up, fastpaws!" a voice shook Lupa and she turned her head to see Channon, her friend, racing up to her. Channon's red pelt rppled on her shoulders as they came in sight of the home den. "What do YOU want to be? I want to be a Warrior." "Err... I want to be a... a.... a gaurdian." Lupa replied, blinking her dark blue eyes. "A gaurdian?! You've got to be kidding me!" Tate stopped them both, his black body like Lupa's shadow. "Only the best wolves get to be gaurdians!" "Nuntis is a gaurdian!" Channon pointed out, an edge to her tone. "Yea but hes been training to a long time. We've been training for what, a year? Thats barely even a scratch to the gaurdians." Tate circled them, his broad chest puffing out like it always does when hes correcting someone. "Whatever... Ill be as good as Nuntis." Lupa growled and pushed her way past Tate. Lupa stopped and sniffed the air, her thick fur billowing gently in the breeze. Suddenly her eyes widened with great fear. "The FlamePack!" she yelped as she scampered into the den clearing. Everyone looked at her, and suddenly Lupa froze in her spot. "Lupa, what FirePack wolves?" asked ther pack's medicine wolf, Cailean. "I-i scented them! Right outside the clearing! I swear i did!" Cailean shook his head,"There were no FirePack wolves here, Lupa. Something may be wrong with you. Follow me." he herded her towards his smaller den just outside the brambles and bushes. "No! Im fine! I just...." she cut off when she saw Lupus lying in the middle of the floor, on a soft bed of fern and moss. His skinny grey flank rose slowly. and his dry black nose twitched. "Be quiet. Lupus is getting over a cold." Cailean hissed and lead her into another section. "What happened to him?" Lupa whispered. "Common cold, nothing to worry about. Hes fine now, though." Cailean replied, his eyes on various herbs at his large paws. Lupa blinked, sitting down beside him, but something told her it was more than a 'common cold'.
