Writing Question

How do you make a dying character sad but not deppresed?

My character, Tala, has a magical bond with her twin brother Eames, so if one of them dies the other dies too. Eames dies in an explosion and Tala knows she has ,like, a month to live. She's sad, not just because of dying, but about her brother. I want her to be sad but not depressed. Still sociable and up-and-about, you know? Tips?

Why not try writing about the character thinking about good times they had with each other. It could take away from some of the depression but it would still be there:)

I don't know. Possibly by making them a heroic sort of character. It's harder if your writing it in first person, but they could also be bottling it up? Hope that helped a bit.
