What´s important to remember when you write a shortstory?

I sometimes try to write shortstories, e.g. for writing competition, but none of them was already great up to now. So, can you tell me, what´s important to think of while writing?

The most important thing, I think, with any story is to have a story line and good strong orientation in mind. Just let the idea sit for a while and think it over, then when you think you have an idea of what you'd like to write, go for it. The thing to remember with SHORT STORIES is prioritise. Think about the most important aspects of your story and try not to disgess from those to much. Hope that helped :)

1. Your readers can understand it
2. That the plot will make the students love your book
3. It isn't confusing
4. Action is a big thing in short stories so make sure your pages arent just describing Cinderellas dress
5. And make sure you put all your CREATIVITY in it
