Cameron faced me. "Huh?"
"I said", my eyes focused on Mercury. "Could you give us some privacy?"
"I could, but I don't want to."
I scowled.
"It's fine Mercury, I'll see you later." Cameron kissed her on the cheek.
The sight stung the back of my eyeballs.
She smiled at him, glared at me, and left.
Cameron faced me again. "Now what did you want?"
"I want to know why the hell you're tongue was in that..bitch's mouth", I yelled. I had never used profanity before, but it felt good.
"Because she's my girlfriend."
"No, I'm your girlfriend!"
"Correction, you were my girlfriend."
" 'Were'? What do you mean 'were'? We never broke up!"
"Yes we did."
"When?"
"Just now. You and I are done."
"Just because you thought I was lying about", I lowered my voice, "the mythical creatures?"
"Yes." He walked away.
I gasped, scowled, whined, then screamed, "Fine!" It resembled the reaction Ross had when Rachel broke up with him for the second time. Was it the second time? I shrugged off the thought and ran to the girls restroom. Zoey and Francine followed me.
When I got to the restroom, I immediately ran into a stall, locked it, and began to sob. I hadn't heard Zoey and Francine enter, but I saw Francine's expensive looking boots and Zoey's black converse sneakers.
"You okay, V?"
"My boyfriend left me for that slut Mercury Ramos!" My grandmother would've washed my mouth out with soap. "How do you think I feel, Francine?"
"You deserve someone better than Cameron", said Zoey.
"Yeah."
I came out of the stall and walked to the sinks. "Thanks guys, but Cameron was perfect for me. He was like me, but in boy form. My other half. My-"
"We feel for you V, but don't bore us with that mushy crap."
"Sorry." I grabbed a paper towel, wet it a bit, and cleaned my face with it. I examined myself in the mirror, reapplied my make-up, and walked out of the restroom with Zoey and Francine following at my heels.
--7 and a half hours later--
I walked out of the school building with Zoey and Francine. As they got on the school bus, I saw Cameron leaning on the hood of his car as if he were waiting for someone. Most likely Mercury.
I looked around to make sure Mercury Ramos was nowhere insight. Coast clear. I walked over to Cameron. "Hey."
"Hi."
He was still talking to me. That's good, right? "So, you waiting for Mercury?"
"Yeah."
"Cool."
He nodded.
"Listen, I just want to know I'm willing to prove to you that mythical creatures exist."
"Even if you do, I won't take you back."
"You don't have to. Just let me prove to you that I'm not insane."
He thought for a second. "Fine."
"Awesome. I'll meet you at the beach tomorrow."
"Alright."
Mercury came and stood very close to Cameron. A little to close. She then kissed him for so long I had to tap her shoulder for her to separate from Cameron. "What do you want?"
"I just wanted to say hi."
She stared at me for five minutes. "Cameron, could you go get my books from my locker?"
"Sure." He disappeared into the school.
"You guys already exchanged locker combos? That's a bit premature, don't you think." She stepped so close to me that could smell her coconut lip-gloss.
"You think just because you're Cameron's ex, doesn't make us bffl's."
"Bffl's?"
"You know, best friends for life."
"Oh."
"I bet you're just trying to win him back by being nice to me, well it's not going to work."
"No I-" I figured it would be smart to agree. "You caught me, Mercury."
"Really? I mean of course I did."
"You're too smart for me."
"Damn straight."
Cameron came back with Mercury's books. He handed them to her. "Thanks babe."
"No problem." He looked at me. "You need a ride?"
I pointed to my bike on the empty bike rack. "But thanks."
He got into his car.
Mercury put her books on the roof of his car, opened the car door, grabbed her books off the roof his car, got in, and closed the door.
I didn't see Cameron open the door for you, little Miss Dimwit. As they drove off, I unlocked my bike and rode home satisfied with that happy thought.
"I said", my eyes focused on Mercury. "Could you give us some privacy?"
"I could, but I don't want to."
I scowled.
