The Stalker
Chapter 1
It was a cool, winter night. It wasn’t too cold outside and I thought after work I would go out for a walk and take advantage of the nice weather. It was four-thirty in the evening. I got off of work at 7:00. It should be a little cooler by then.
Work was boring and nobody really came in. Only one person did and he was weird looking. He had ripped shorts, a short shirt, and worn out shoes on. I looked at him suspiciously because the whole time he was in there I caught him looking at me. This was weird especially since I was only 18 and he was like 36. Maybe it was just a strange man so I didn’t pay much attention till he came up to the counter to pay.
He set a bag of Jelly Belly’s on the table.
“Is that going to be all for you today, sir?” I asked.
“Yes.” He said in a hoarse voice that sent chills down my back.
“Thank you. Come back soon.” I said only because it was a policy that we had to follow. But every part of me was saying “never come back again”.
Finally, my shift was over and I headed out. My car was back at home because I didn’t want to go back home from school to get my car then drive all the way down here. So I walked up to my house which was only like 2 miles away.
I was only about halfway home when this car started following me. I couldn’t see inside the windows because they were tinted. I thought to myself, mom told me never to go home when someone was following you. But where was I supposed to go? I didn’t want to take a detour because I didn’t want to run into a dead end. I also didn’t want to head over to a stranger or friends house to put them in danger so where was I going to go to? Then it hit me. The park! It had many people in it and he might get lost in all of them. I headed back from where I was going and went back down past my work to the big park at the end of the street.
There, there were mothers and children out playing. Since it was Friday, the kids would be out longer. Good for me because then I could have enough time to escape. I didn’t have a cell phone to call anyone because it was at home. I thought that I should play with the kids and put my sweater in my bag so that it would be a little harder to find me within the crowd. So I did. I went to go play with the kids and you should have seen the look on some of those mother’s faces, when they saw an 18 year old girl playing in a park on the jungle gym. Some of them laughed because they thought it was a joke but if they knew what was happening they would try to help me.
I didn’t exactly know where that car was anymore. I lost track of it when I got to the park and I wasn’t on the constant look out for it. I saw a payphone and thought I could call my mom and have her pick me up. I had a couple of dollars in my back pack and could pay for a few minutes and that was all I needed.
I put in thirty cents for a minute thinking it would be long enough.
“Hey, mom?”
“Is this Ashlie my baby? Why are you calling from a number I don’t know?”
“Yes, it is me mom. Can you come pick me up at the park?”
“What are you doing down there?”
“Mom, it is a story I will tell you when you come and pick me up. I don’t have much time on the phone.”
“Is everything alright?”
“If you don’t come pick me up, it won’t be.”
“I will be there in a second. I’m leaving now.”
“O.K. Love you.”
“Love you to bye”
Then I hung up.
I hoped I hadn’t scared my mom to much because knowing her she would freak. Well, at least she was coming to get me and I should be safe soon. Then the car that was following me earlier came to the bench in which I was sitting and it slowly came to a stop.

ON STORMY CLOUDS
I’VE SEEN HIM SIT
THIS DARK ANGEL FAIR
WITH FOLDED AND SHIMMERING
GOSSAMER WINGS
AND MOON BEAMS IN HIS HAIR
WITH BURNING EYES
TO EARTH HE SLIDES
SEEKING TO FEEL THE GROUND
THEN SPREAD HIS
RAVEN FEATHERED WINGS
CASTING HIS MAGICK SHADOW ‘ROUND
THIS ANGELS TOUCH
IS A COMFORTS SONG
SOFT AS A VELVET CLOAK
AND WHEN HE REACHES
TO RIGHT THE WRONG
HIS WORDS ARE FEELINGS SPOKE
ON HOOF AND WING, I WATCHED HIM SAIL
MY DARK ANGEL FAIR
TO SOME ARCANE ABODE
WE KNOW NOT WHERE
TILL HIS NEXT ASSIGNMENT
AND THE FUTURE HAS BEEN FORETOLD
FOR THE LAST FLIGHT
THIS DARK ANGEL TAKES
IS A PIED-PIPERS GATHERING
FOR ALL THE SOULS HE’S TOUCHED
LISTENING TO THE SHADOWY
SONGS THEY’LL NOW SING
I’VE SEEN HIM SIT
THIS DARK ANGEL FAIR
WITH FOLDED AND SHIMMERING

It's been almost a year since Freak died. For a while, people always used to say to me, "I'm sorry." I hated that. I yelled at them, "Feel sorry for Freak! I'm still alive!"
They shouldn't feel sorry for me. Freak taught me what it meant to walk tall. He tought me that remembering is only an invention of the mind, and if you try hard enough, you can remember anything. I try to remember everything Freak told me; and sometimes, it works. Then it slips away.
For a while after Freak died, I went back to being the critter hiding out in Down Under. Then one day, it hit me, and hard. If I had died, I wouldn't want Freak to do what I was doing. I would want him to continue Freak The Mighty.
And that made all the difference.
I try to make Freak proud; maybe I'm even succeeding. I just know that Freak changed the way I saw things, and I owe him that much; to keep Freak The Mighty alive.
