Chapter 1 (Janae's POV)
How do you tell your bestfriend that you love them?Boy, don't I have a story for you and you'll never believe. My name is Janae Carter, I have an older brother name James and no parent. They were killed in a car crash by a drunk driver, but I don't want to get into that now.
When I met him I was seven years old, he was eight. At the time my brother was 18.
I was in the backyard playing in the show in, Grand Rapids, Michigan just to let you know. While I was playing, building a snow castle, I notice a boy kicking a ball against the tree that splits between mine and his yard, and it was getting annoying.
I tried to ignore him, but the more I did the louder the banging seemed to get.
After I made the castle, I decided to make a snow angel, and that's when the accident happened.
The boy kicked the ball against the tree and snow from the tree landed on me. It was too heavy, I couldn't get up and I couldn't breathe.
It felt like I was under there forever, and then I heard scratching, and his face came into view; brown eyes, caramel skin-tone, and black spiky hair. "Hey!" He said, "Are you alright?"
I didn't answer, but I tried to sit up. He pushed me back down,"You might want to sit still for a while,Princess." Princess? "I'm Taylor Marshall, by the way. What's your name?" He asked.
"Janae Carter. Your family just moved here?" "Yes," He said, "We came yesterday."
"Janae!" I heard James call. I turned to see him running towards me. "Who's that?" Taylor asked.
"My brother."
He knelt next to me, "What happened?" He turned to Taylor, "What did you do to her?"
"Nothing. The pile of snow fell on her." He started. "He saved me, James." I said.
"Thank you." My brother told him. He lifted me up and guided me to the house.
"Bye!" Taylor called. I managed to wave just before James shut the back door.
The next day, Taylor came over asking if I could come out and play.
I didn't answer.
James came to the door,"What do you want, kid?"
"I was wondering if Janae could come outside and play."
"Sure, don't you want to have fun, Janae?" James asked. I still didn't say anything.
James pushed me outside,"Go on."
He closed the door and I was left with Taylor.
I walked down the porch steps, pushed him, screamed, "Tag! You're it!" and ran off.
"Hey, no fair!" He called and started chasing me. We played tag for hours.
We played together for years...
But everything changed when he a little after he turned twelve. His parents kept taking him to acting classes and auditions for movies and stuff. We could only hang out, sometimes, at school.
One day, when we were walking home from school Taylor said he had something to tell me.
"What is it?" I asked. "Umm... well, I'm leaving." He said. "What do you mean you're leaving?" I wondered where he was going.
"I got a part in a movie called The Adventures of Shark-boy and Lava-girl in 3D. They said I'll be really good for the stunts."
I quickened my pace and left him behind. "Janae! Don't be mad!" He yelled, running to catch up.
I turned around,"What about all the times you said that we would be best friends forever? What about the time you said that nothing will EVER break us apart? You promised me those things!"
"C'mon princess-" He started. "Don't call me that." I told him, "I'm not your princess!"
"I'll be back, Janae, And my mom bought us these web cams so we can see each other when we talk, if we don't wanna be on aim. Your brother already set up yours. I'm not going away forever, okay, princess?"
I grinned, "Okay, fine." He pulled me into his arms and hugged me tight.
"You and me, kid." He said.
"You and me, Tay."
