“What does Becca's past have to do with any of this?” Willow asked.
“You know she used to work for Talia Al Ghul?”
Both Erin and Willow nodded.
“She was part of the League of Shadows. Becca was her assistant. Becca has had to do many things she regrets. But she was stilling working for Talia when she first came to Young Justice for help. Becca sought redemption and left. Serepta was hunting for her but Becca was found. I do not know what Talia wanted when Becca first came. All I know is something happened and Becca has been feeling guilty over it ever since.”
“Why? She can't help it!” Erin exclaimed.
“I know that. But Becca has become strong. She thinks she was weak, needing to have a home. So she guilts herself.”
“But everyone needs a home!” Willow joined in.
“Willow, Erin. You guys know that. But put yourself in Becca's shoes. She's been ripped away from several homes. Before she was adopted by the Stevens' couple, she was called an orphan, a monster. And since the age of three, Becca has grown to believe that all her life. I know it's not true, but Becca has trouble believing anything but that. She tries to fool herself. But she can't. Too much pain in her past to trust herself. But maybe she'll find someone who can show her the truth.”
“C'mon ladies! Pick up the pace.”
“I feel insulted!” Billy exclaimed.
“You were! You're a speedster and you can't follow my pace? Maybe you have two left feet!”
“Heh. Billy might but you sure don't.”
“Flattery gets you nowhere, Beck. C'mon! You guys! Alright! Stop!”
The music stopped and Becca faced the group.
“So far, Morgan and Alexis are the only ones good enough! You boys better step up your game. But I have to ask, am I moving too fast?”
“Yes!” Tanner exclaimed.
Becca smiled. She went over to the boombox, switching CDs.
“Okay. Then I'll need to teach you a simple dance that's not as fast. But it's a little slow. And it requires a partner. Hmmm....Billy come here.”
Billy looked nervous as he came to the front. Becca played the music and looked at Billy.
“Okay. This is a waltz. You'll need to learn from this dance. It'll teach you all to follow one person no matter how hard. Okay. Morgan, I want you and Tanner to do this with me. Now Morgan and I are going to switch off every now and then. I want you to see how our eyes never leave our partner.”
The music played and both Becca and Morgan lead the two guys into a series of steps. When they switched off, the two girls made the transition smoothly. By the end of the song, all four were dancing to the beat in perfect rhythm.
“That's how it's done!” Becca cheered. “Good work! Now, we have a small problem. There may be six of you. But four guys. I need to think of something.”
“We can get Melody,” Morgan advised.
“Who's she?”
“She's our tech girl. You were going to meet her later but now's as good as ever.”
“Kay. Get her.”
Morgan flew off. She returned a few minutes later with a fifteen year old girl. Melody's hair was black, her eyes a sea blue.
“Becca Stevens. Pleasure to meet you.”
“Same here Melody. You don't go on missions?”
“No. I'm more techy. I can't fight. But I'll be working with you when they go off on missions.”
“Well, get ready for a dancing lesson. Thanks for helping.”
“No problem.”
Becca smiled at the girl before looking at the group.
“Okay. Morgan, let's put you with Tanner, Alexis with Alder. Melody, you're with Billy. Beck, you're with me. Let's get started on a faster dance.”
“I still don't see how this is going to help us fight,” Billy muttered.
“You'll be lighter on your feet, making you more graceful and even faster. Enjoy it.”
Becca stuck her tongue out at him playfully before the music started and she started them off.
