How do you rip DVDs to create a youtube video with parts from those DVDs? Can you do it for free?

I really want to make a Harry Potter video like the one embeded, but I've no clue how to get the content from the DVD to my video editing system to make it... Can someone please help me? I tried one thing, but it said my DVD was encrypted? I really need some help!
