The music industry’s very best artists across all genres were celebrated at the 2014 American Music Awards on Sunday night.

During the Pitbull-hosted ceremony, Australian rock band 5 Seconds of Summer was presented with the New Artist of the Year award, while One Direction walked away with the award for Favorite Pop/Rock Band and Favorite Pop/Rock Album for

. The British boy band also bested music veterans including Beyonce, Eminem, and Pharrell Williams for Artist of the Year.

Australian femcee Iggy Azalea, who went into the awards ceremony with a total of six nominations, scored the award for the Favorite Rap/Hip-Hop Artist and Favorite Album in the rap/hip-hop category for her debut project

Pop music pioneer Taylor Swift — who opened the awards ceremony with a live recreation of her “Blank Space” music video — also became the recipient of the inaugural Dick Clark Award for Excellence after becoming the first artist to have three albums sell over 1 million copies in its debut week.
