Buffy the Vampire Slayer Question
Was Faith really in love with Buffy?
I've heard lots of speculation about it and I was just wondering if Joss Whedon (or anyone else involved with BtVs) had said anything. Please tell me if they have.

As far as I know, Faith wanted Buffy's life, not Buffy herself. She was very jealous Buffy was loved by her friends and mother no matter what. Faith never knew that kind of love. She wanted to be part of it, and because Buffy life was so perfect according to Faith, Faith wanted Buffy to like and trust her. Faith's very sensitive to the feeling of being rejected so when the scoobies didn't inform her Angel was back, she felt left out and friendless. But in my opinion it wasn't about Faith having hot feelings for Buffy...
She saw Buffy as what she wanted to be (and if one wants to be like one other, the first thing that you want is that the girl in question likes you), so it became quite an obsession for Faith, but I don't think she was in love with Buffy...

No Faith wasn't in love with Buffy. Faith had envy for Buffy. Buffy had everything house, mom, friends, watcher (A good one anyway), school, saved the world a few times..etc.!! Faith on the other hand didn't have any of that. She was brought up with bad parents, no house, no mom, no friends, Wesley as a watcher. They had two different lives. When Faith saw this part of her wanted it. In an episode they switch bodies and Faith finds out that she can't be Buffy but she is a slayer with all her heart. Plus she's end being a murder and working for the dark side!!!! In the end it wasn't enough that Buffy wanted to be her friend so Faith felt all alone!!!

In love with her romantically? No, my take on the Buffy/Faith dynamic is that of twins in school- only one is evil... Mrs. Summers attitude seems to verify this: she seems quite maternal towards Faith, though not as a mom to a young person- almost as though she seems to see Faith as another daughter of hers!
Added, Buffy takes Faith into her circle of associates, and gives her an honored position- this is usually the actions of a sibling: taking one into their 'fun activites'.
The real break-up seems to be when Faith shows her psychopathic immorality (kills a man, then pretty much pressures Buffy into helping her hide the fact "We did this, Buffy, it's on you and me." remember that?
To me, their bond seems siblingesque- not romantic or remotely sexual.

It's just a non-canon pairing made by fans of femslash.

I don't think she was as far as "in love" with Buffy. She was definitely jealous of her, and maybe attracted to her (Eliza Dushku did admit that she was putting some hints of that into her acting). But she never acted jealous when speaking of Buffy's relationship with Angel, or even gave any indication that she wanted a relationship with Buffy herself.
