I remember visiting this website once...
It was called CBS Pilot 'Drew' Deemed "Too Female" - UntitledTV.com
Here's some stuff I remembered seeing:
Apparently a show about a kickass detective is “too female.”
What the fuck is “too female?” No seriously, I want to know. Does it somehow mean not watchable? Maybe not sellable? Perhaps not smart enough? I really want to know what it means to be “too female.”
And I’m betting actress Sarah Shahi wants to know what it means considering that is the reason given for her show
was to be the adult telling of the books series Nancy Drew. I’m sure you remember them, you know, the ones where a teenage girl solves crimes that not even the big strong men around her are able to figure out.
Since the series first publication over 80 million books sold the world over not to mention the five feature films and three television shows that were made with Nancy Drew as the title character. CBS had a chance to take a strong, female character and meld her with an actress who is not only of color but one who is a strong and supremely talented actress.
And make no mistake, Sarah Shahi is not one of those actresses anyone would accuse of not being able to hold her own in the world of men. She is currently coming off of a very popular run on the CBS drama
where she plays Sameen Shaw, a former government assassin who men and women alike fear for their lives whenever she is in the room.
Of course, by too female they could mean that they’re afraid advertisers believe that women won’t buy the products they’re selling. Because as you well know, we don’t drive cars, watch sports, or drink beer. No, that’s just for the men in our lives.
I know they can’t possibly mean “too female” as in they wouldn’t be able to figure out a way to use Shahi or her character to sell products. I know they can’t mean that because as we all know advertisers have no problem with using women to sell things.
Maybe it’s that while they have no problems using us for our money they find that we are beneath them and not worthy of a place at their table.
Contrary to popular belief we women are able to judge a show on more than whether or not it has a suitable love interest or a dreamy guy to gaze upon.If the pilot was bad, it was bad. But you’re not saying that, are you? No, instead you lead with flimsy and half-baked excuses. CBS, do not insult us with “too female” it makes you look stupid.
