I remember visiting this website once...
It was called What Can We Expect in Guardians of the Galaxy 2? | moviepilot.com
Here's some stuff I remembered seeing:
This past weekend, James Gunn was a part of yet another live Q&A session via Twitter\'s livestreaming app and obviously Guardians of the Galaxy 2 was a large focus of the questions seeing as prior to the original\'s release he was already confirmed to helm the sequel.
Now, that\'s not the interesting part of the Q&A session. He\'s been spending most of this time finishing the script (which has a completed draft). He\'s hoping to finish it before heading south of the border to Columbia to work on his next film, which he is producing and writing, The Belco Experiment.
Guardians of the Galaxy 2, which is set to begin production in February is cruising along through the chains of Marvel Studios, and seeing as that\'s nearly 8 months away, there are very few details set in stone. What we do know though is some of Gunn\'s preferences as to what he\'d like to see in the followup.
The original Guardians film was in no minute terms, a film about Peter Quill, Gamora, Drax, Rocket & Groot coming together and building a dynamic that feels like a family. Gunn plans to expand on the \'family\' dynamics through the sequel. We\'re all expecting to see an expansion on Peter\'s family story as well.
There\'s a lot of stuff I\'m excited about in the new movie. Listen, I\'m still excited about Star-Lord\'s character and where he goes. At its heart, Guardians is a story about families, and if the first film was about him and his mother, this is a story about fathers. So it\'s exciting to go there." - Gunn (Apr 2015)
So, we\'re looking at seeing the Star-Lord & his father and that storyline. We\'re also possible to see the issues that Gamora has with her sister and own father Thanos. Drax also was reminiscent through the first film about being a father himself and has a great deal of wrath towards the Mad Titan, Thanos.
So Guardians 2 is set to be about families, and have a great deal of father connections throughout. Which will be fun and could possibly have as much if not more heart than we found in the predecessor.
Marvel has a HUGE cosmic side that the original Guardians film has just begun to touch on. Gunn has often expressed his desire to expand the Marvel Universe and there is a great deal of expansiveness that could be reached by James Gunn as he helm the sequel and most likely trequel (is that a word, probably not - but you can follow along).
Part of the uniqueness of Guardians is the fact that it brought us to a universe that was barely touched upon in the first sets of films in the MCU. Thor opened the floodgates of knowing that there is more out there besides Earth and Guardians jumped leaps and bounds ahead of what we were used to with the Avengers team. Guardians 2, if Gunn has his way, will open up the MCU to even more worlds and an even larger story line that should link the 2 aspects of the MCU that we know of.
Gunn dropped a bit of a brilliant nugget on us when speaking about Thanos in the sequel when speaking in August.
He will show up [in the sequel] if he helps our story and he will not show up at all if not. Thanos is not the most important thing in Guardians 2, that\'s for damn sure. There\'s the Guardians themselves and other threats the Guardians are going to be facing that are not Thanos." --- "I think Thanos has been lonely for a long time. He can handle it. He\'s used to his loneliness. He\'s got some other kids out there. He\'s got to look after them. Nebula\'s probably the sweetest of them, which tells you what his kids are like..."
So, if Thanos isn\'t the big bad in Guardians 2, that leaves a lot of interpretation as to where Gunn may take the story. We could see any of these:
The Elders of the Universe: Now this could be an interesting story line to take Guardians, we\'ve already seen the Collector but we could be introduced to any of the Elder Villains: The Architect, The Grandmaster, The Champion, The Possessor, The Runner, The Obliterator.
Universal Church of Truth, Magus & The Black Knights: Which would easily lead into Adam Warlocks inclusion into the MCU.
Thanos\' other children, which by all accounts are more wicked than what we found in Nebula.
The other Eternals: Brothers Kronos and Uranos battling in a civil war that stretches into the Guardian\'s world bringing in the Eternals Arc.
even Galactus himself, could make an appearance.
I think taking Thanos out of the story could make the Guardians galaxy even bigger, as is Gunn\'s goal all along.
James Gunn hasn\'t been quiet about what he envisions for the Guardian\'s story line although he still holds a great deal of the details close to his chest, Gunn has said numerous times that he\'d like to see a second female lead added to the team. That brings us all into some interesting conversations for characters inclusion. There are a couple routes that I could see James Gunn taking with the sequel, especially if he truly does plan to add another female character.
Phyla-Vell: Although she\'s a fairly new to the comics, she is the daughter of Mar-Vell (The original Captain Marvel -- which could be some connective tissues to our own Carol Danvers film here on Earth). Phyla, in the comics, is a close friends to Drax as well as a love interest of Moondragon.
Moondragon: Daughter of Drax the destroyer (dun. dun dun. - See the beauty of this character\'s involvement already!?!) Drax believed her to be dead, but she was saved by Thanos\' father and brought to the planet Titan which is where she received her physical and mental powers
Angela: A rather new addition to the Marvel comics, and once rumored to be a character in the first film (proven untrue). Angela was brought into the comics as a lost sister to Thor. Angela is an Angel and bounty hunter which was thought to have been killed before Odin banished the "Tenth Realm" called \'Heven\' as punishment for attacking Asgard. Angela would be a solid connection to the Avengers Team as well, considering that she was brought into the Comics through the Ultron storyline.
Captain Marvel: Captain Marvel, Carol Danvers, my love (wait? did I say that out loud...) Similarly to Phyla-Vell, Carol Danvers could enter Guardians of the Galaxy as a tie to the Earth as well as tie into her own movie as it comes out the following year. Although we\'re probably more likely to see her crossover after Infinity Wars along with the Inhumans as the Kree story line will be more more involved at that point. But a guy can dream, right?
There are my thoughts about what\'s to come with Guardians of the Galaxy 2, I seriously can\'t wait to see what comes through the next phases of the MCU. I just keep seeing the world getting bigger and better and it makes me squirm in anticipation as we look for more details about what\'s to come.
