Director Bryan Singer has promised before that his upcoming
will deliver "mass destruction" when it hits theaters in 2016... but now he\'s taken to showing instead of telling. Check out his latest on-set photo below and see what I mean!
Tip toeing through ruined #Cairo #1983 #xmen #apocalypse
know that this is far from the first image that Bryan Singer has shared of the set through his Instagram page, but it is definitely an intriguing one. Arriving with the caption "Tip toeing through ruined #Cairo #1983," the image shows us that the capitol city of Egypt is going to be getting leveled in the blockbuster - and we\'re pretty sure we know who is responsible:
will recognize this hooded figure as Apocalypse, who was first shown during the post-credits sequence of last year\'s big comic book movie rearranging/building the famous Pyramids of Giza. I point this out because it\'s evidence that the big screen version of Apocalypse - like his comic book counterpart - has origins in ancient Egypt, firming up ties between him and the North African/Middle Eastern nation. It\'s possible that he unleashes destruction upon Cairo when he is reawakened in the early 1980s (and where he will be played by Oscar Isaac).
Of course, Apocalypse isn\'t the only X-Men character with ties to Egypt. When she was young, Storm\'s family moved to the country, and after her parents died she wound up becoming a very skilled thief. With Alexandra Shipp taking over the role of the weather controlling mutant from Halle Berry in
, it\'s entirely possible that we will seen at least part of this origin play out. Plus, because we know that Storm is going to be one of Apocalypse\'s Four Horsemen, their Cairo connection might explain how the two first meet each other.
is currently in the middle of production up in Montreal, Canada - where it has been shooting for the last couple of months. Surely Bryan Singer will continue to feed us looks behind the scenes of the film, and hopefully he\'ll soon start showing off more members of the project\'s impressive ensemble - which also includes James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, Nicholas Hoult, Evan Peters, Rose Byrne, Olivia Munn, Tye Sheridan, Sophie Turner, Kodi Smit-McPhee, Ben Hardy, and Lana Condor. Stay tuned for more updates, and get ready for the new
